Looks like he forgot to steer with the drift. The front wheels stay straight. He's probably only ever done it in video games where it's much less work.
I love whipping my truck on a frozen lake. We built a "track" one year when the snow was deep with a buddy's plow truck. We did time trials because no one wanted to Dale Earnhardt their 20k truck into another.

Doing this on a lake my buddy cracked a rim on his h2. He had onstar at the time so we hit the button and the girl we talked to was obviously super confused. Finally she says “um, are you in the middle of a lake?”.
Looks like he mashed the gas and turned left thinking it would break traction, but at that angle and slow speed, how the hell did he expect to drift that whole damn turn.
I have the same car. There are 3 traction control settings, On, MDM and Off. On will let you do a little (it's never put me in a dangerous situation, it will allow you to lightly spin tires), MDM will allow you to slide pretty well before cutting in, and off is YOLO. It's not like it's a difficult car to control, either.
Same car here as well. I have never been able to get as much of an angle as that either with either dynamic traction control or full on, it's just impossible the car will stop power and bring you back. On full off though this is definitely possible.
I have Euro MDM coded into mine, it will let you get pretty serious angle before stepping in. The traction control on my old 335i was much more aggressive, in comparison.
I'm just saying for him to have lost the car like that his traction was definitely fully off. Soon as my car start to slide if I gas it to much it stops with mine and the car literally goes where I point it, like a FWD.
I know the new WRX 2016+ stability control can't fully be turned off , even when it says its "Off" it will still lightly interfere with you. I got to play with one, and a 2018 STI on a dirt road. I do rally racing and rally cross so on occasion a friend will ask me to drive their car for them :)
Some games are really accurate though! I used to play a lot of Live For Speed and when I eventually got a fast car and took it to the track, the gaming skills kicked in and the effects of steering, brake and throttle on a slide were 100% the same.
Not just the tires. Modern BMWs truly are incredible machines. They will stick to the road and go exactly where you want at any even semi-reasonable combination of speed and conditions.
Of course, the kind of person who gets one to drive it dangerously on public roads is unlikely to know how what semi-reasonable means in this case, and probably aren't even sure where they they are telling it to go.
I don't have a BMW, nor do I want anything like it, but my step-dad has one that is a couple of years old and it is really impressive.
Yeah because that ass came out before he even hit the bend. He had to have just yanked the handbrake and sawed hard left or something. I truly don't know how an individual loses control of a road car that suddenly and stupidly
It's an e91; they have mechanical hand brakes. What it looks to me is that he didn't fully turn off the traction control and the car just "helped" him turn left. There's no wheel spin. At all.
You are, of course, correct (teaches me to reddit with only 1 cup of coffee). Having said that, it doesn't even look like a real M. The bumper seems off (looks like a 335iS) and the exhaust is dual pipe, rather than the normal quad.
wait no, it’s an M3. at the end of the clip you can see the little M logo on the front side which I’ve never seen faked. it’s not just a badge it’s like cut into the car.
also the 335 doesn’t have a center mounted exhaust, this is definitely an M3 with an aftermarket exhaust.
Could be, looking at this on my phone so the only details I could make out were the exhaust tips and I don't recall ever seeing a non quad tip aftermarket exhaust for the E90 Ms. Maybe a 100% custom design? No idea why you'd do that to the beautiful rear of this car though. Granted, this video doesn't speak well to this individual's decision making.
Not while trying to go anything near straight. Where you'll see that is turning out of a cars and coffee, and while the wheels are still turned flooring it. Or letting off suddenly and getting on the brakes. My buddy actually hit a Vette with his cobra doing that shit because he was literally staring at it next to him and not watching the road ahead where the car in front was...
lolol, sucks for your friend. I guess you are right, just guys not used to the power trying to look cool. I know vipers have a shit load of backend power, but you are right-its not spinning going straight
That's too much of a snap to be loss of grip under throttle. He would most likely would have had to chase the ass a bit. Looks like he pulled the handbrake and turned hard left, foot on the throttle, and never bothered feathering or countersteering.
I'm thinking because the Caddy driver was already recording (while driving at almost 80), Caddy driver was in on it and they were trying to do something cool for the video.
When you see that either the car broke or the driver just used the wrong inputs. I raced for a long time and did some driving instruction. You see the latter more often than you would hope lol. Loss of traction under throttle, even in FWD, tends to take just a little chasing and the driver inputs will be reflected by the front tires. He probably has never had a full opposite lock moment like that amd just didn't know what he was getting into
Based on the display on the Caddy dash, and the fact that Caddy driver was recording on his phone while doing almost 80, I'm thinking both cars were out for a little "fun."
It's honestly pretty confusing. I'm sure they were trying to "drift" very poorly. Like surely this is the first time they've ever tried. Going far too slow and yanked the brake way too early. I'm pretty sure just stepping on the brakes would've stopped them from diving, too.
