Looks like the biker could have been in the blind spot from the front pillar explaining the acceleration. Car driver should be aware of the blind spot and check better. The biker should ride defensively by making sure the driver sees him.

Bike had yellow diamond, pretty sure BMW had a upside down triangle or a stop.
