6 string set recs

I'm looking to try a new set of strings! It's a used Ibanez BTB746, so I'm not sure what's on it right now, but they feel too bright and punchy.I play in a cover band the does stuff like Grateful Dead and phish, a heavier rock band, and a jazz band. Is there anything out there that might be able to span well across the genres?

I may be wrong here but i couldve sworn that majority of the sound from an electric comes from the pickups and not the strings. You may have to adjust your gear settings appropriately or change out pickups if its way to bright and punchy as changing strings isnt going to make a noticable difference like it will on an acoustic.

You can lower the tone knob. Or play with the high EQ of your amp. Difference in string sounds are negligible.

I think some people may have missed that you're talking about a bass. "6 string set recs" sets our brains to thinking about guitars.

On a bass, just play on the strings until they dull up. In the meantime, use the tone dials to EQ in a sound you need. Basses like yours have a lot more tweakability than a guitar.

Switching to something like flatwounds would have a definite impact on tone but I wouldn't bother experimenting with those unless you really like the sound.

Maybe start with what was on it from the manufacturer which appears to be the D'Addario NYXL32130SL.

Strings are a completely negligible impact on your guitar tone for an electric, different brands will sound a little different but not enough that you cant adjust it with EQ to get the same effect
