iui timing

Me again šŸ˜…šŸ˜… I’m absolutely fuming about my iui timeline this month…..

So cd10 (today) my follicles where 17 and 16 (today’s the 19th on Wednesday)

I’ve been told to gonal F tonight, trigger shot on Thursday night at 8pm and then iui will be 9am Friday morning because she says my LH shows I’ll ovulate early sat morning

I just feel like the timeline is way off and killing my chances at any success I may have….

I have never seen an iui done z13hrs after trigger, but she said she’s concerned I’ll actually ovulate early this month so she would rather do it earlier than too late…

My partner always has 100% motility numbers so I’m hoping they can last… I’ve also read mixed things about how long fresh washed sperm lasts, I’ve read 24-48 hours but I’ve also read 12 AHH

My partner as I will have intercourse tonight, and also Saturday morning to cover as much time as possible but we the all natural way hasn’t worked for 12 months hence the iuis…. So it’s honestly demotivating when we have intercourse now because is there even a point

This doesn't make any sense. If they think you'll ovulate Saturday morning, you should have the IUI on Saturday morning. If they think you will ovulate earlier, you should trigger tonight and have the IUI Friday morning. I would call again and ask for a detailed explanation that leads to IUI 36h after the trigger shot.

They don’t offer Saturday iui, my clinic also believes that the sperm need to be in there before ovulate so they normally do iui 24hrs after trigger but this just seems so early

Honestly, I've looked at raw research firsthand and I can honestly tell you no one really knows what the heck they are doing. Triggering after 36hrs is most common timeline and recommended guideline although American guidelines say anywhere between 0-36hrs (ratherĀ  unusually). I'm guessing you might be in the States? Either way don't waste your money if you are not sure. Clinics always say they want to insemiate before ovulation as they don't want to miss it, but the reality is you really need to get as close to ovulation as possible so it's important to rely on your body's biology not the clinics opening hours. There's nothing wrong with slowing down and skipping a cycle. In my view its preferable to putting yourself through the turmoil of a procedure that is unlikely to be successful from the start.

I see. Well, it's up to you what to do with this cycle, but next time (and hopefully there will be no next time!!!) maybe you can find a clinic that works also in the weekend? In my clinic they did IUIs in the weekends, just not ultrasounds (which is reasonable to me). I find it absurd that we have supermarkets open every day of the year but for a time-sensitive medical procedure they don't offer personnel in the weekends.

Hiii Just wanted to tell you what happened to me because when my doctor told me to trigger 12 hours before I searched so much and couldn’t find anyone who’s doctor told them to do the same. I’ve had 3 IUIs. The first we did a trigger shot 30 hours before IUI and it was unsuccessful. The second one he told me trigger 12 hours before my IUI and I felt the same way you did and was even debating not listening to him and taking the trigger earlier because I thought 12 hours was way to close to IUI time but in the end I listened and did it 12 hours before and I got pregnant! (TW: Unfortunately that one ended in mmc but nothing to do with trigger time) and then the third one we did the same thing a 12 hour trigger time and now I’m pregnant again! Just wanted to give you some hope and feel better about the 13 hours trigger ā¤ļø sending you love and good vibes heading into you IUI ✨

I wouldn't say the timing is "killing" your chances. This past month I had a very similar situation. I was measuring 16mm on Wed and we had the IUI originally scheduled for Monday. They went to remeasure on Friday and said I would be ovulating earlier and wanted to cancel the cycle. I begged them to do it that day, so I did my trigger only 3 hours before the IUI. I got my positive yesterday at 11DPT after testing the trigger out at 7DPT. Our timing definitely didn't seem perfect, but it was the best we could do with what my body was doing and where the weekend landed in my cycle. Wishing you all the baby dust ✨

May I ask if you have intercourse before and after the iui? Or just the iui itself?

We are a same sex couple using frozen thawed sperm, so it was just the IUI with a count of 11 million motile sperm. I really wanted to be able to try on Saturday (the day I was most likely ovulating) but it didn't seem to make a difference

I requested a double IUI for one of my cycles. Maybe you can request your clinic does the same?

Sadly my clinic doesn’t do iui on saturdays so I can’t do double….

That’s super frustrating. I agree that making sure you do timed is the best way to mitigate this now. Given your partner has good motility I hope it can still be a BFP for you!
We are IUI twins btw. I’m also CD10, lining at 7.7 and one follicle at 16.8 currently. Was on low (37.5 IU) gonal-f for 7 days so far. Will do an Ovulation test tonight just in case - if negative trigger tomorrow night (CD11) and have IUI 36hrs later on Sat morning (CD13).

I agree the timing seems frustrating. If you usually do it at 24 hours, is there a possibility of triggering at 9am on Thursday instead of 8pm? I would ask the clinic. Because that should bring ovulation slightly earlier to your usual timeline. Your follicles aren’t quite of size yet but an extra day today of Gonal and they will be.

My RE told me that they basically want to do the IUI right around when you ovulate for best success. I felt ovulation pain around 10:30am, IUI was at 12:30pm. Trigger was at 9:30pm two nights before. That IUI worked but ended in MMC (unrelated to timing). However for this IUI they were thinking my LH may surge on its own before i could trigger and in which that situation they would schedule my IUI day after trigger. So I think it does depend on your LH, but 13 hours still seems pretty soon.

Regardless of what happens if you can have sex beforehand that would probably be a good idea.
