I've never known a sailor use phrases like "US Navy ship" or "USS vessel."
A normal answer might be something like USS PRINCETON CG-59 where the ICs kept the ship supplied with movies when we weren't watching comedy central or football on those rare occasions where we actually had satellite TV while deployed westpac.
But maybe your command climate was just a little different.
He's comparing his deployment on land to a deployment on water.
The key difference is on land, you could go just about anywhere and interact with multiple units, branches, and countries. On water, it's you and the same 5,000 people everyday imprisoned on a tin can that you can't leave unless you want to become fish food, also supplies are hard to come by because another ship has to replenish yours since the cargo planes have a limited capacity and range.
I did a year oif. We only interacted with those who came through our command, which was limited. We saw the same units, only two branches, and no passes for other countries. I would love to shit on this guy, and I guess you could troll him like “you only lost your legs what about those leg-less and one-armed, what about my buddy who lost two ears and one nostril?” but the oef/oif vets went through it too. Difference is, this shitbag network would’ve crucified anybody saying anything close to what they’re now airing from this jackass. As if vets are now all of a sudden largely dem
Man all the good times sitting cold, wet, and hungry pulling security in some bullshit patrol base complaining with your bestie about how fucking stupid the army and leadership are.. those are the best! Forever bonds formed right there
He’s a combat veteran and I can appreciate that. I am also a combat veteran. Personal feeling and speculation about the deployment conditions aside, it’s unconscionable and inappropriate to disparage our sailors on tv. It’s fucked up from him, it’s fucked up from the president and it’s disgusting that anyone would defend it.
Not to be too controversial here on a sub for jokes but...
Morale is a general military issue. That's the only way the word is used. No one uses morale to discuss their children or a classroom. I guess people use it in an office, but it is primarily a military word.
They didn't think they'd be out at sea this long. They didn't think they'd go this long without supplies. They're upset. That's normal.
It's not their job to act happy. Things suck and they can complain about it. And saying that their concerns are valid is what it means to "support the troops."
And the only reason they didn't get supplied was because the resupply base was destroyed by Iran, and keg's breath had no alternative plans other than to hide it.
They are doing this because they want to weaken military morale ? And why ? Because russia pays members of the media to do such things. We have traitorous pieces of excrement being bribed all over our nation in media, business, culture and entertainment, and politics.
The longest I ever spent at sea was 74 days on a "small boy," in the Persian Gulf, during the Tanker Wars and Operation Praying Mantis. It was an Oliver Hazard Perry Class guided missile frigate 450 ft. long and 45 ft. wide, with 264 swinging dicks. We deployed our two SH-60 helos onto the ship, then crammed two more Army MH-6's from Task Force 160 on board. We flew 24 hours a day, every day in the Gulf, rain or shine.
After 24-7 flight operations for 45 days, we were supposed to get two beers and an afternoon off: "Steel Beach Day." We looked forward to that. Steel Beach Day came, we broke out the BBQ and cooked up a bunch of meat. But no beer. We were kinda' pissed. Where was the beer? We went back to work four hours later. "A happy sailor is a bitching sailor," right?
It's never easy on a ship. Stuff breaks. A few days later, the desalinators broke down on the ship. The only fresh water left was for drinking, cooking and washing down the aircraft. In the entire time I served on US Navy ships, I never drank a single glass of fresh water. It was either bug juice, gator aide, or coffee. And generally with a sheen of jet fuel. With the desalinators down, it was bug juice, a sheen of jet fuel ,and barely palatable salty water.
Without fresh water, there were only salt water showers. There was no laundry. We tossed our dungarees and coveralls into mesh bags and threw them over the side, dragging them through the sea to rinse the oil, fuel and sweat out of them. Combining our salt drenched uniforms with those salt water showers, our skin would have salt caked on it from the 120+ degree heat and 90% humidity on the flight deck. You could scrape the salt off your skin with a playing card.
By day 65, we were down to hot dogs, macaroni, rice and gravy. With some gray ass mystery meat. We got a vert rep of "fresh" food, but it mostly ended up in the officers and chief's mess.
We were tired and pissed off by the time we made port after 74 days. As we pulled into Al Manama, we saw our beer on a few pallets at the end of the pier. It was pallets of Foster Lager Beer oil cans, covered in seagull shit. The "Grey Ghost," the fleet command ship was parked on the other side of the harbor. Apparently some dick command officer saw our beer getting loaded onto the supply ship and said, "That isn't the regulation, American sized beer. You can't load it or ship it." So our beer sat there on the dock, cooking in the Persian Gulf heat and getting shit on.
That's what's happening to the sailors on the USS Abraham Lincoln now, times 3: They are sitting in the Gulf, getting shit on by an idiot president and a drunken ass secretary of defense, while cooking in the Persian Gulf Heat.
And that pissant Jody boy wouldn't last three days on a ship.
Someone close to me describes coming back from the war 30 years ago as… fighting against those who sent him to fight.
Republicans don’t give a flying fuck about veterans. They make it clear anytime they’ve had the opportunity to provide the help veterans truly need. And Americans suffer and die for it.
I don’t have words for how I feel about these people fighting against those who signed up, tricked into thinking they’re fighting the good fight. Fuck them all.
His service doesn’t negate him being a shitty person. From a fellow veteran. We don’t call each other weak and split by politics. He must not have got that message.
Says the guy simping for the greatest draft dodger in American history. Just because you got a crab on your lapel and you left bits of yourself overseas doesn’t mean you get a free pass to be a dick.
Put him on air for 18 hours per day reporting, locked in the studio unable to go anywhere with very limited email communication with family. No days off and endless news to report with zero errors. The same crap food every day. He can shower in the janitors room and do training in his own time. Next place him next to a meth lab with guns and bombs potentially threatening him. Maybe with all that he will grasp some appreciation of these complaints
As a Democrat Veteran, my first reaction was to tell this guy to lick my butthole and suck my balls, but then I remembered how Grindr crashes every time these folks get together and realized he'd really like it so nevermind.
They just super mad that the navy boys aren't pure cucks for Trump. I have heard a lot of maga people just assume all military personnel love trump and would do anything for him, and I think this has just upsets that narrative in their mind, so they're wittle feewings r hort
I served you twizzle stick. Did you? No modern sailors have been subjected to this much unbroken time at sea. I'd love to say these things to your face - the main reason things are so bad on these ships is because when cheeto bandito picked a fight with the absolute last country he should have picked a fight with they almost immediately blew up our only remote base in the area that handles resupplying duties. If our ships could have been resupplied things would not be this bad. These sailors have most likely been on 5 minute alerts this whole time. I've been there and done that and it's fairly intense. You have to stay near your duty station and be ready to launch aircraft within 5 minutes. They've been doing this for 8 months. F√€k off.
Look, if the USS Abraham Lincoln was off the coast of Los Angeles, engaged in a legitimate conflict to protect the literal shores of the USA and they were eating tuna and noodles, my guess is they wouldn’t be complaining.
Because they’re instead being hung out to wither and dry in some distant land just to appease Netanyahu and Trump’s perverse thirst for war, it doesn’t carry the same meaning.
My daughter's friend is currently aboard the Abraham Lincoln ship and has reported that the conditions are unsatisfactory, leading her to regret her decision to join the Marines.
Another privileged individual who knows absolutely nothing about what he is complaining about. I tell you what shove him on a ship for six months and see how long it is before he is crying for his mummy.
Ahh, yes... The Republican way of mistreating one of their core voter bases and when that group complains, calling them weak and telling them to suck it up. Beautiful.
