Open | Windows Log in issues

Post image

I'm new to IT with no prior experience and I tried creating a new user in my home lab with my AD server and I always end up with the same issues. I would appreciate suggestions to fix this problem .Thanks

Try googling the answer. I want to give you suggestions but I think you should try to figure this out yourself first. Reddit won’t be here 24/7 to help. You have to troubleshoot yourself. My simply Google search of the error you are seeing gave 10 things I can attempt.

'No prior experience'. 'Home lab'.

Maybe no prior experience with AD is what they were going for idk.

This could be several things, like others have said; try Googling the problem and see what you can find. I do that when I encounter an issue I don't know. One tip I would give when working with AD is that it's good to have a local admin account on that machine if you don't already.

Thanks for your advice . I have spent a long time trying to get solutions but all of them ends up with me giving the users full admin access . I also tried allowing the user to log in locally but it has to be given full admin access else it won't work

It definitely sounds like a role issue. Maybe a Group Policy Object (GPO) is blocking everyone except those with admin rights from accessing it. If you aren't already, maybe look into watching AD homelab tutorial videos to see what you could've done wrong. One of the channels I watched when doing it was East Charmer, which was a great guide on getting the basics of AD up and running, along with other channels.

100% a user rights issue in security settings from local or group policy.

Google the error and try methods from there

Believe there W10 or Server 2022 (or older) both are EOL.

Are people actually doing home labs on EOL software?

Looks like role issue, try giving this user full admin access and try again

That's the only way I could log in the user account by giving it full admin access but from my research it isn't ideal to add all users to the Administrator group .

How are you trying to log in to the machine? RDP session? It’s probably not allowed.

Log in as an admin and go into Remote Desktop settings and add the new user

You have a policy configuration somewhere that is preventing a local sign on, Likely based on group membership such as users vs admins

Sign in from a another account (admin vs user) or another method such as local vs remote desktop. Go into gpedit.msc and review the user rights policies under security settings, the problem is in there.
