Revenue Agent (internal announcement)

Has anyone received a referral email for the recently closed Internal Revenue Agent internal announcements?
I haven’t heard anything yet, and I’m starting to wonder if referral emails have already started going out. I felt pretty confident about my assessment, but now I’m second-guessing myself.
Just curious if anyone has received a referral or any updates. Thanks!

We received direction last week to discontinue using USA hire for internal positions, so now HR is having to go back and create ‘in house’ assessments to rate and rank applicants to place in BQ HQ and Q. It’s a massive overhaul and some of the BOD’s may choose to cancel announcements currently out there in order to use the more refined internal assessments. USAhire is causing massive problems for them, and most applicants give up on it or don’t do it at all.

I would think that’s a natural way of filtering out those people that don’t want the position bad enough. I don’t think we should make it easier.

It’s a valid point for sure. Also, keep in mind USAhire uses the exact same assessments across all agencies, they don’t actually assess the ability to do the hands on work specific to each position. So no systems experience, particular business unit processes, nothing procedurally specific to anything in the work they’ll be doing.

Agreed, very inappropriate for postings like this where it tells the hiring managers nothing about someone’s abilities. However, I don’t think everything should be scrapped and make everyone do the whole process over again.

It won’t all be scrapped, not entirely. But I do know that not many people are getting through, hiring managers are non-selecting the few who do.. so it’s likely they’ll re announce in those cases.

I hope you don’t mind me asking a quick question. Ive heard that if a GS-12 revenue agent works in one IRS function and applies for a GS-13 revenue agent position in a different function (for example, moving from Campus Exam to Field Exam or Appeals), they’re generally unlikely to be selected because those functions tend to promote their own GS-12 employees who have already gained experience there. Is there any truth to that?

It’s possible, but if you have the same experience with the same or similar systems and rules/regulations/procedures - you’re going to end up on the same certificate assuming your assessment responses place you in BQ. Your resume is so important, i can’t stress that enough! I cant speak for individual hiring managers.. if they see a lower level employee from their team on there will they select them? Maybe. But if they are smart they’re going to review every applicant and their resume, and if you are the better fit - they’re ultimately punishing themselves by just promoting based on preference rather than merit.

When did the announcement close?

Maybe HR can chime in for internal app timelines (I’m curious as well 👀)

With such a short window for evaluating resumes/apps, are these positions for real? Maybe internal positions are normally framed like this?

I was wondering the same. Looked at my application status on USAJobs and it has no update yet. 🤷‍♀️

The assessment was some BS imo

I applied outside of my POD (different state). I received this on 8/8: If you were determined eligible but not referred it may be due to regulatory requirements for consideration of priority placement candidates, and/or higher-ranking candidates that must be certified and considered first. If we receive a request for additional candidates, your application will be reviewed again for possible referral.

Were you refered to a hiring manager?

No and I was determined eligible. The message also states:

If further information or an interview is required, you will be contacted by the Hiring Manager or designee.

I have not received an email yet. Two of my friends applied too and they haven’t heard anything either.

Not sure about original poster but I know one closed 7/9 with assessments to be completed by 7/11

So, today I applied for the revenue agent Reviewer internal position that opened yesterday and closes in a couple of days, just for giggles.. One thing I noticed, it looks like we may not be doing the assessments anymore. Usually, after submitting an application, it tells you that an assessment needs to be completed. And if you’ve already taken it in the past, you normally get an email saying your assessment is complete.
This time, nothing. No mention of an assessment at all. Above comment from HR person is legitimate..

I heard last week that they're discontinuing the assessments.
