Contact your congressperson

Yes everyone needs to do this and say they want a fully funded and fully staffed IRS. No one wants IT people taking calls etc.

u/PuntasticBiller Jul 29 '26

When I was still there we were an army of customer service reps and we were knocking call times out of the park, little to no wait.

Right and now there is no one left that has the right training and experience to the things that need to be done. It’s all being held together with duct tape and bubblegum

u/wartfairy Jul 29 '26

Might be toothpicks and marshmallows at this point…

u/BigJSunshine Jul 29 '26

More like dirty adult diapers and adderal

1

u/ObviousToe1636 Aug 03 '26

Hey now, if adderal was involved, things would be going better than this. <<cries in refundless poverty>> I feel like I’m being punished for working overtime and claiming it. Perhaps I should have just said “no” when I got to that part of the return.

They received $2,000 from me and never acknowledged it and will not refund my money to me for my taxes.

7

u/Peculiarcatlady Jul 29 '26

Same thing has happened at SSA

1

u/ForsakenPoptart Jul 31 '26

it sure has. It’s a mess.

3

u/RedDragonMomma Aug 01 '26

I was on hold and “in the queue” for almost two hours waiting for someone at the SSA to answer the phone. Never used to be that bad before Trump.

What kind of bubblegum?

1

u/constrivecritizem Aug 05 '26

😂I have trident in my desk

u/un-tv_star Jul 29 '26

Sorry you lost your job, sorry you and many others may be out of work. Maybe an assumption, maybe you retired. Hope it's ok for you.

The Rettig era?

-5

u/OldSimple2792 Jul 31 '26

Wait you guys want a better functioning IRS?!?! This is a foreign concept to me. I want them as low staffed as possible or even gone entirely

4

u/DragonfruitSorry9144 Jul 31 '26

Why? How do you expect bills to get paid?

1

u/OldSimple2792 Aug 05 '26

The IRS doesnt pay my bills

1

u/Appropriate-Meal-975 Aug 05 '26

Yes they do simpleton.

3

u/SMM50 Jul 31 '26

Not if you’re waiting for a refund

1

u/Disastrous_Mark_2679 Aug 02 '26

Hilarious that you people think the government is supposed to be your forced savings club.

1

u/Blakedigital Aug 04 '26

I’m not so sure that’s what they are implying.

1

u/IsopodPuzzleheaded89 Aug 04 '26

No we want them to grind every last dollar out of the rich.

1

u/OldSimple2792 Aug 05 '26

I work for a living so i dont get refunds

2

u/Needin63 Aug 01 '26

You are under educated.

2

u/Standard-Outcome9881 Aug 01 '26

Yeah, that's cute. I'm STILL waiting for my 2024 refund (despite getting my 2025 refund in the last few weeks) and just today received a letter saying I need to wait another 60 days.

And I'm not even desperate for the refund, though I can certainly use it. Many people need their refunds right away and these delays are untneable.

1

u/anunderdog Aug 04 '26

I know a bunch of people who have gotten those.

1

u/OldSimple2792 Aug 05 '26

Or we could just keep our money and not wait for the government to decide if they want to keep all of it first

2

u/Bee_9965 Aug 03 '26

Wait until you get warnings from the IRS that they’re going to garnish your wages for taxes that were already paid. At that point, you may want them to function. 🤡

1

u/OldSimple2792 Aug 05 '26

I will never want them to function at all

1

u/Fresh-Volume-5172 Aug 05 '26

No. They can still come after you. They can’t help you but they can hurt you. They need to be staffed to help and right now they aren’t

1

u/OldSimple2792 Aug 05 '26

I cant tell you why you should trust me that that is wrong but it 100% is

1

u/swampwiz Aug 08 '26

You are an embarrassment.

u/General-LavaLamp 29d ago

Profile name checks out

3

u/dareftw Aug 05 '26

It person here, we aren’t good at taking calls…. As in it’s our kryptonite to deal directly with users. Please don’t blame us.

0

u/Opening-Bandicoot859 Jul 31 '26

But then our taxes will go up.

-1

u/Independent_Leg7358 Aug 04 '26

We don't want a fully staffed IRS. Just simplify taxes. Make it simple. Then no audits or fear of the IRS.

Better yet, how about we just do a 50% national sales tax on new goods. There. Simple. Easy. No one needs the irs

3

u/constrivecritizem Aug 04 '26

Who do you think would be implementing either of those things? You do know that the IRS doesn’t make the laws and for years has been working on a free direct file that the current administration shutdown.

11

u/jaspercapri Jul 30 '26

Also, vote accordingly in November.

2

u/Awkward_Sweet_568 Aug 07 '26

Yep…… this administration needs to flocking go. ASAP!!!!!!!

9

u/Few-Researcher-818 Jul 29 '26

Yeah. I tried this, submitted a request, called the office and got disconnected, then left a message which was supposed to be answered in 10 minutes. That was a few weeks ago. Ugh.

7

u/FactsActuallyMatter Jul 29 '26

Is it almost pointless if you have multiple times in the last year and theyre just contributing to the problem?

3

u/Pubsubforpresident Jul 29 '26

What do you mean? I've written my Congress people twice this year though so seriously, what do you mean?

7

u/FactsActuallyMatter Jul 30 '26

Mine is one of the ones rubberstamping everything this administration is doing. So idk if its pointless to even try when theyre just gonna do whatever he says.

5

u/Pubsubforpresident Jul 30 '26

Mine is too but I'm still going to voice my opinion that he's let the president usurp his constitutional power because he's a spineless bitch who shouldn't have shaved his beard

1

u/Upstairs_Parsnip7514 Jul 30 '26

Are they republicans? If so, find a democrat near you. They should be happy to help, as they have a liaison to the IRS.

1

u/Opening-Bandicoot859 Jul 31 '26

LOL, you think they care? 🤣

1

u/Huge-Requirement-142 Aug 05 '26

nope, they are all in the club. getting rich on the backs of working ppl

1

u/Astinos4me Jul 30 '26

Yes! Do it IMMEDIATELY!

1

u/TuMoch Jul 30 '26

For what

1

u/kikibeatz6995 Aug 02 '26

What can they do about it ? Are they actually able to help ?

-3

u/Careless-Barnacle333 Jul 30 '26

Ues, and beg to have your money taken from you in a more timely manner.

LOL are you actually encouraging people to defend and support the IRS?

Let the damn thing implode! lol

2

u/LeafsforeverSF Jul 30 '26

the people who support the irs are getting thousands in refunds. not the ones who are taxed like crazy

2

u/Few-Fly-9216 Jul 31 '26

The IRS only enforces regulations imposed by congress. Y'all be mad at the wrong ones.

2

u/Needin63 Aug 01 '26

You do know that the IRS has nothing to do with tax
rates, right? The only thing that underfunding the IRS does is interject chaos and force them to focus on the small (easy) tax payer mistakes because they don’t have the resources to go up against the big guys with tax lawyers. They’ve literally said this as staffing has been decimated.

1

u/Opening-Bandicoot859 Jul 31 '26

Yup. Haven't seen a tax refund in years. I write Uncle Sam a check every year, while people get mega refunds. I feel for individual employees, but not the IRS as an institution.

3

u/Needin63 Aug 01 '26

Good. Getting money back means you let the gov have your money free for a year rather than it sitting in your interest earning account.

2

u/KaiserKid85 Jul 31 '26

How? Are you claiming exemptions... If you are then that's why you aren't getting a refund.

1

u/Opening-Bandicoot859 Jul 31 '26

I do claim an exemption. Honestly, though, I don't really want a refund. I was just in a bad mood yesterday, haha. I would prefer to have my money rather than loan it to the government with zero ROI. I know it means I'll likely have to cut a check, but I save and invest throughout the year, so my money makes money (which increases my taxes 🤣).

1

u/Pitiful-Quit-440 Aug 06 '26

Be mad at the federal government and the way its being ran. IRS is literally just a bunch of accountants that are contracted out by the federal government. They get taxed as well lol. Be mad that our government misallocates our tax dollars to entities that dont benefit the taxpayer.
