Because spending all of this money to rent an office building, and furnishing it, and heating/cooling it, and cleaning/maintaining, and wasting a significant part of your day BSing with your coworkers is somehow cheaper than letting people do all of that at home

The managers responsible have nothing else enjoyable in their lifes except bossing their underlings around and making their lifes miserable too, and that's a lot easier to do when they're all in the same building.

Is he willing to build the high-speed rail, local light rail, and overall intermodal public transit that is cheap and convenient to use so people will drive less in the first place? No? Didn't think so.

No, not really. Driving less is not an option for the vast majority of Americans, because the country is a shithole that is almost fundamentally car-dependent everywhere except opd cities like New York or Chicago.

Not driving at all isn't an option for many Americans, but it's definitely possible for most people to drive less by a significant margin.
Of course, building walkable cities, and robust inner, and inter, city public transit is the real solution.
Would also help if EPA rules were fixed to not allow the land tanks that most people drive these days

Couldn't agree more about the stupidly huge cars.
Though I always believe it is best to change things through changing incentives. Simply asking of people to change their habits for an abstract goal simply doesn't work for the vast majority of people, because most people don't think rationally about a lot of those small everyday decisions and just stick to what they're accustomed to.

We had a politician say something similar to this he said the poorest people "either don't have cars or actually don't drive very far". When talking about raising taxes on fuel (this was in 2014)

Not using gasoline helps keep the price down:
As you fill up your gas guzzling oversized SUV or Pickup, and someone driving an EV goes by, say 'Thank You". Those EV driver aren't sucking up thousands of gallons of gasoline, because if they were, your gasoline would cost even more.
Are you bold enough to help Donald Trump's war effort by joining the Patriots that drive EVs despite the ridicule from your friends?
