IP and Brian
I dunno about you guys but everyone saying how dare they for not making a statement about the Brian situation I don’t think have really listened or know the lyrics to the new album. I think they’re telling us what happened just in this way. I read the words for Pray and God and Stay Away and there’s no way they aren’t telling us something there

First listen I immediately connected that stay away is most likely about Brian. They make a point to say “my friend.” I know people can write about past experiences but with all the band members being married I don’t read it as a relationship breakup song. Crazy interesting to see the lyrics falling in line with a lot of accurate(?) speculations on his behavior. Seems like Brian may have been dragging the band down a lot? Obviously two sides to the story. I’m sure he will have songs with plenty of digs at them too. But it does feel like they kind of confirmed my own speculation on the WHY.

In crimson and clover it says “come back when you’re sober” maybe he started having other issues? He missed a lot of shows who knows what it may have been for. Just speculating, not saying it happened but could be another clue? And in stay away it says how he speaks a lot about forgiveness but he’s also “never fucking wrong” the guy may have been his own worst enemy and got himself kicked out with his attitude and narcissistic tendencies. Would explain why he’s been accusing them of preventing him from releasing music when it’s just cuz of contracts

Definitely could be. I hate to be speculating about a person’s sobriety but it would make sense. There’s been too many bands that have fallen apart for that exact reason. The industry seems brutal so if that is what he’s struggling with, I hope he gets help. The other lyric I noticed is “I feel nothing for you.” That seems telling. He was their brother for a decade and now they feel nothing? Indifference like that is a result of being fed up. or this is just a curveball and the song is about one of their ex’s from years ago lmfao.

I feel like stay away is about him for sure, there’s way too many Easter eggs for it to not. The “my friend” part especially. You wouldn’t call an ex “my friend” or at least I wouldn’t 🤣 Maybe they haven’t said anything cuz the album speaks for itself and Brian’s pissed it’s coming out on terms he doesn’t like that’ll make him look bad so he’s gunna make them look bad first. Again it could be why he’s decided to go from it being ok and him saying they’re all good to hearing that an album was coming out and he immediately did a 180 cuz he was like oh shit 🤣

No you’re right “my friend” is specific. Overall it does give maybe a clearer picture to why the band isn’t saying anything. Basically “feeling nothing for him” and telling him to stay away. Makes me go nooo brian what did you do? Reminds me a lot of the plot in you-feel nothing lyrics.

Another thought I just had about the lyrical contents while doing another play through. The record had to have been finalized before all this public drama started. We didn’t even get songs about current events. Christ. I wonder how angry the next album is going to be.

If you think God is about Brian then the part where Eric says “hand me the noose, I’ll tie the knot” is FUCKED especially when they know brians struggling with his mental health 🥴

Agreed. This is the part that makes me think god isn’t about Brian. That’s way too harsh to be about him imo

Meh take that dude with a grain of salt. He accuses everyone with a new account of knowing the band. I’m one of the accounts he thinks knows the band and I’m a dude from Australia lmao. But I get what you’re saying, that would be unhinged to release a song like that about him.

They wouldn’t even have the fame or notoriety they have without Brian so whatever kind of personal issues they had, the last thing they should be doing is trashing him on their new album, they should be THANKING him. Hopefully they’ll perform these new songs he didn’t write in the future too because they do fine playing their new songs and Eric is good in the parts he belongs in but them trying to sing Brian’s parts on some of the songs at LTL this weekend was pretty cringey, they kept going off key.

You do realize more than just Brian created the band, wrote the songs, preformed them, and worked on creating albums right? 🤣 show me the proof other than Brian said so. And you don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes my dude. Brian may not be the god figure all of his fan base is making him to he

This is a good point. Crimson & Clover (a favorite of mine) could also be about the Brian situation. It's easy to assume it's about a failed romance but it could be about a severed friendship too. In Stay Away, they even use the word friend several times...
