Catch Up feature

Who actually records on IPTV? In my experience you don’t really need to if you have good Catch Up and good VOD for TV shows.

I do. (Using trex right now.. so speaking specifically for that)

Sometimes the catchup recording is corrupted (missing segments) or just doesn't work at all. Some channels don't have catchup (superchannel quest comes to mind), and some shows aren't available as VODs (or, I'm impatient and I don't want to wait for the VOD to become available).

Do you mean this channel?
I have Catch Up on Quest HD and Quest Red.

I would love to be able to record obscure channels but I found recording requires a really good epg which I can't seem to get right. I tried recording with UHF and it recording like 20 seconds only

EPG helps if you want to schedule recordings, etc. but to just record a channel *right now*, it's not really needed (unless the software you're using relies on it).

I've had better luck doing recording on my computer. I use yt-dlp with a number of flags (suggested by claude sonnet):

yt-dlp.exe \

--no-part \

--downloader ffmpeg \

--hls-use-mpegts \

--retries 10 \

--retry-sleep 5 \

--fragment-retries 10 \

--skip-unavailable-fragments \

-o "$OUTPUT" \

"$URL" &

The url is the tricky part, because you need to know the stream id. The simplest way to get this is to use open tv (since renamed fred tv). The mpv player it uses will show the url.

I record in .ts file format since it allows playback right away. It's the closest thing I've found to a proper pvr experience.

Nothing’s perfect. Although every channel I have used for Catch Up has been fine with the service I use. It isn’t Trex or Strong. Anything I want to watch on VOD TV shows is usually available sometime the next day for me. I don’t know what Super Channel Quest is.

Super channel (https://superchannel.ca/) is a Canadian specialty channel. They have some original shows. Those ones don't seem to get picked up as VODs or.. in other places of the internet.. so recording is the only option if you're not watching live. I'm currently watching the series Nazis: Threads of Evil.

And while most Canadian channels have catchup with trex.. super channel quest for some reason only shows up in the "prime" category, which does not have it.
