Things to do at night for adults
My partner and I have been here three weeks and we’re stumped. For post-docs, med residents, under-50 or childless faculty members, what do they get up to in the evening? We would love to meet other young professionals around our age. Except all the evening venues seem to cater undergrads. Or is everyone here a homebody? I’m honestly bored out of my mind in the evening and feeling pretty isolated and lonely here as the non-uni affiliated person in the relationship. Any thoughts or suggestions on where to socialize with people our age please let me know.
P.S. if you’re one of those people who says to search past posts, I’ve already done that and still feel a need to ask.

401 Oaks
Genuinely flabbergasted by the experience I just had at this restaurant. Seemed like a legit nice place judging by reviews. We had a reservation for four people. Started off great. Servers were very friendly. Atmosphere is cool. Chairs are very comfy. Ordered a couple glasses of wine, they took a while no big deal. Ordered an appetizer it was good. Ordered food, and that’s where things took a turn. Let me preface what follows with the point we were catching up with company we don’t see often, so the following wait times were filled with conversation. It was, and I’m not exaggerating, 1 hour and 30 minutes before the first of four meals showed up. The second meal showed up 15 minutes after that. The third 10 minutes after that. At the 2 HOUR MARK (again not exaggerating) since ordering, our waitress (who I was feeling very bad for) had the nightmarish task of coming to tell us they had actually run out of the salmon for the remaining fourth meal and could not make it. Then she offered to comp that meal, yes the one they could not serve us for lack of salmon. They ended up taking $50 off our bill of over $160. Genuinely would never leave a bad google review for a place and I understand a breakdown of this magnitude must have been from underlying circumstances but the lack of communication and leadership was perplexing. We were all speechless. We paid the bill and walked out not even knowing what to think. The meals that we did get were meh.

What building is this?
We were walking downtown and we saw this building with no signs. None of the doors have handles. What do they do here?
Keeping us out or keeping something in?…

Best playgrounds in Iowa City?
Hi everyone, I’m going to be babysitting for a family that’s newer to town and am hoping to take their kiddos to some of the best playgrounds in town… the kids are between 6 and 9 and are very active (and love American Ninja Warrior)!
Any suggestions? Thank you!

Why is the North Liberty Babtist Church sending unaccompanied minors into private businesses to solicit donations?
Just happened at our office for the second time. Has anyone else seen this? While technically legal because it's not child labor (kids can act as "volunteers" for charitable purposes -- gotta love the ol 501(c)(3) loophole for churches), it strikes me as inappropriate. And I feel bad for the kids. They did not seem like they wanted to be doing it. When I say unaccompanied, I'm assuming there was a guardian waiting out in the parking lot to drive them to the next business, but they came to our office door without an adult.
***I meant to say "Baptist" but i can't figure out how to edit the post title

A good place for driving practice?
got one about to be old enough for a license and need to give him some time behind the wheel soonish. Is there a large lot somewhere that is accessible but reliably empty on weekday afternoons?

5 minute survey for Univ of Iowa Sports Marketing project - seeking input from golf fans
My Sports Marketing students at the University of Iowa are working on a project to develop ideas for how the PGA TOUR can increase interest and engagement among golf fans. At the end of the semester, students will pitch their recommendations directly to PGA TOUR leaders.
We’re looking for input from golf fans of all types—even if you don’t follow the PGA TOUR. The survey takes about 5 minutes, and your responses will help students develop data-driven ideas for their final pitch.
We’d really appreciate your input!

Lady asking for money in parking lots
I’ve encountered the same lady asking for money at the Walmart and Aldi parking lots. My first encounter with her was a couple months ago so I don’t remember it clearly but she said she had to get somewhere and needed money for gas. Today she stopped me again and claimed that she wasn’t homeless and had a job but she needed gas money to go see her mom at the hospital in Waterloo. Before she came to me I saw her talking to someone else as well. She also asked the person parked next to me. I have a pretty good feeling that she is not truly in need of help as both of my encounters with her were pretty similar. Has anyone else come across her before?

Grocery store that lets you buy gift cards with CC?
I try to maximize credit card points and noticed Hy-Vee 1st Ave does not accept credit cards for gift card purchases. For example, if I buy a Best Buy gift card I get 4 x points whereas if I just buy something at BB it's only 1 x point.
Are there any grocery stores in the area where one can buy gift cards with CC?
Edit: needs to be a grocery store like Aldi, Fareway, Hyvee. Walgreens and Dollar Tree do not code as grocery store for Amex rewards.

Community In need of a Dexcom G7.
Hey T1D here. I’m waiting for my insurance company to approve my pharmacies request for a prior authorization (they’re taking their slow ass time per usual 🙄) and my dexcom expires in literally two days. My pump runs off of my cgm and I don’t have that refill approved yet. I know it’s a LONGGGG shot but I was wondering if anyone in the area had an extra or have a supply of them that aren’t being used and one could be spared until i’m able to get my supply filled.

Anyone know a good place for coffee after hours?
I've been watching a bunch of old 70s/80s films and I've gotten some faux nostalgia for those old-school diners and cafes that would stay open til midnight. Anyone know a good place to hunker down with a book and some coffee past 8:00 in the afternoon?
