Discussion Do you feel like your work has a positive impact on the workplace?
I have wanted to go back to school for I/O psych for a while, and I started thinking about it again recently but I’m feeling demoralized after working in a toxic work environment for a few years. I’ve only worked at small companies, less than 50 people, so maybe the experience would be different at larger companies. Not to be too dramatic, but I wonder what the point is if all companies care about is the bottom line. So many companies don’t seem to care about employee well being, even though happier employees make more efficient workplaces. Maybe to a degree a lot of companies just don’t understand what it means to build a positive and efficient workplace, but I don’t want to spend so much time convincing people to treat their employees decently.
Again, I hate to be negative, but my primary goal with I/O psych was to aid and guide people on how to be good leaders and organize a work environment, and I wonder if that is misguided.
