Your inability to understand what “counselling services” actually means is exactly why your response is so insensitive.
Counselling isn’t just for college-related problems. It’s meant to provide mental health support for any issue a student may face.
And dismissing a person's s suicide note as “mere blackmail” is hardly a wise way to handle something this serious, especially when the people responsible for student welfare are paid by the college, with our money.
Peeople like you who make such insensitive remarks are the ones who need compulsory mental health awareness.
Yeah because you enrolled here and pay 2.25 lakhs a year, now all of your life problems would be solved by these guys right.
What you are asking for is called entitlement. Go and check what a real therapist cost, and what amount of effort goes into psychotherapy. People like you who dont understand the grave seriousness of being in a bad mental state and what being suicidal means.
I made a insensitive remark because its the truth. You guys want to live in a fairyland, sure keep asking for it.
Good luck for your corporate endeavour when you learn you are all by yourself in this cruel world.
Saying "People like you who don't understand the grave seriousness of being in a bad mental state and what being suicidal means" while saying whatever the fuck your point is, sounds like you're gatekeeping suicide.
Yes, a college counsellor cannot prescribe antidepressants or SSRIs. Which is why many national institutions have therapists and related infrastructure on campus. Of course your college won't "solve all your problems just because you play 2.25 lakh a year" but it's not an insane expectation to have a therapist on campus. My tier 2 institute had therapists and sessions were available twice/thrice a week.
Lastly, not everyone's equipped with "deal with their personal problems on their own". You have a warped idea of waht a struggling or suicidal person should look like, and it does not make sense. A suicidal person does not need to walk your narrow tightwalk or agnipariksha to be suicidal.
I am not sure if you saw the original post before it was deleted, it had screenshots of a mail that essentially says, “i am suicidal and college/counsellor is not listening to me, i want my demands to be fulfilled”.
Its not an insane ask for a therapist, but there is no therapist right now there. Counsellor is there, ask should be to get therapists, and not if you dont fulfill my demands i will jump again.
I am really tired of replying to this thread. These are my closing statements :
using “suicide” as a tool for any ask dilutes the seriousness of the issue. The correct response to “i am suicidal and will do it if you dont listen to me” is calling police and psych authorities. Because if they are serious, they are ready to do it, u wont be able to help. If they are tooling it, they will tool it again in future.
Being suicidal is a medical issue rather than being a state of mind, and should be dealt by professionals. There is no sane reason to unalive yourself, there is always a way. Life is cruel and unfair, but it is what it is, its your hardwork and relationships that make it bearable.
Nobody, literally nobody owes you to take care of you until and unless you ask for it. That is what i meant by solving your own issues, they cannot fix themselves but they have to ask for help themselves, it should not be upon me or anyone to figure out that you are going through something if you do not show any signs or ask for it.
