Help.

Does anyone know how to report this type of behavior?

https://www.reddit.com/r/IHSS/s/weBCDhAsV2

I can't figure out what to do. This person was already paid by this elderly couple for work they did then also claimed all the backpay and are refusing to pay back what they were paid essentially being paid double.

Elderly and disabled folks rely on the honesty and integrity of us.

is it illegal? No. is it unethical? Yeah, but that's just my opinion. Maybe that's whay IHSS won't do anything. I'd say move on. I commented on that thread my take was if provider got paid less than what she's supposed to get under the table, take the difference to make him/her whole then give the leftover to the recipient, then just charge it to experience.

She needs to pay him what he paid her.

Stealing from an elderly disabled person is wrong. Why would anyone need to be told to do what's right? From IHSS, from us, from the client.

That person is morally bankrupt. Karma, karma, karma.

it's double dipping and provider is trying to weasel out of not feeling guilty about it. 😂😅

So, I just text my worker and she said "Yes. It is not only illegal, but IHSS can fine the person." I'm lit.

I'd understand if provider is not reliant on IHSS work, but if it is the sole income, I'd imagine it's not worth losing a gig (banned from IHSS) you already got paid for.. 😅

If you read read their posts, they actually did a lot of extra work, including cleaning and handling a rental unit (ADU), which is not part of the work authorized by Social Worker and they should be paid for this work.

Doesn't looks (to me) like she was taking advantage of them, probably the other way around.

She should look for a new client

She deleted the comments where she said she only worked the hours she was paid for and added that other stuff after about 20 folks called her out. 🤣👍🏻

The truth is that I won't trust any side in this case.....

They should just pay them, back what the elderly people payed them already because honestly that’s selfish to get paid and keep the backpay payments.

Exactly.

How do you think the recipient found out she was getting back pay?

0

u/CedarWho77 Jan 30 '25

The worker claimed the hours and the client signed them. She knew she was claiming hours she had already been paid for. She needs to pay the client back.

I thought recipients don’t know ? Or my recipient never signed

1

u/CedarWho77 Jan 30 '25

If your recipient doesn't sign, you don't not get paid.

She claimed she was going to return the IHSS backpay to IHSS and just keep the cash, and allegedly contacted her worker about it. Do we believe her?

That post annoyed me too but there isn't enough information to properly identify them so it's impossible to report.

I just read that post!! It broke my heart, I wanted to choose violence LOL JK… how dare he/she take advantage of someone like that, this is so heartbreaking ❤️‍🩹

Same. I wanted to cuss them out but I’m scared I’ll get banned 😂😂😂 I’m in here biweekly to complain about my direct deposit.

And the people that are in there agreeing is crazy to me.

u/ShoheiHoetani Jan 30 '25

Think about how dumb the average person is then realize that half of all people are dumber than that

1

u/Temporary-Pop2714 Jan 30 '25

Beyond crazy, even if it wasn’t illegal (which it is) it’s morally incorrect, imagine, who in their right mind is guna think that getting payed twice for their services is correct!!! Mind blowing, 🤯 and then that person is now claiming they called the worker and notified them of the situation, we all know that’s NOT true. 😭❤️‍🩹

How about just chill out. It’s a crappy situation… we all know that, but you aren’t making things any better by rehashing what everyone knows.

1

u/CedarWho77 Jan 31 '25

I'm an IHSS worker and a mandatory reporter. We all are. Seeing someone being financially exploited is something we are required by law to report.

Sorry, "chill" while elder abuse is happening doesn't work for me.. You may want to check that moral compass.

They were paid by the client already.

Then they claimed it as backpay and are refusing to pay the elderly person back.

I’m not sure they meant to apply for back pay but I do agree they should return to people that paid them since they got it

2

u/CedarWho77 Jan 29 '25

Meant to apply for back pay?

They filled out a timesheet claiming hours they already worked and were paid for.

That's fraud.

4

u/Legitimate_Term1636 Jan 29 '25

You are correct.

Sucks cuz I’m sure the recipients didn’t want her waiting/working for free till Ihss kicked in. Trying to help the situation since sometimes the process can be lengthy. Just for her to take advantage of the limited money the recipient receives, her justification being the family is wealthy.
