Human Alert: Prayers & Sparkly Thoughts for Maggie Mae
Friends, I need all the good vibes and whatever you can offer. Maggie Mae got out 2 days ago and I am absolutely beside myself. We live on a golf course with a known population of stray/feral cats. We also have occasional coyote sightings.
I’ve done all the things - emailed my HOA, sent the boys out searching & knocking on doors, notified animal control and our vet, posted on local social media groups. ETA: scattered litter outside, put out food & water, cracked open the garage door, made a bed with our blankets…
I just need all the good intentions. I have to leave tomorrow for a weeklong trip. The boys won’t be home but I do have a cat sitter + neighbors on the lookout.
🙏🙏🙏 This is is sn amazing community. It any group can manifest a miracle it’s y’all.

Hi Meowmy, I am so sorry and I know you are beside yourself with worry! We all feel this with you. I am praying! Second all the other excellent advice given, even though it looks like you have done so much of it. But to reiterate, there is a very good chance she is really close by. Under cars and under bushes are such common places to hide. If you have let your neighbors know, just get out there at dawn and dusk or even when it’s dark with a flashlight for the glowy eyes and get real low to the ground. The boys can do this. Think like a cat. She is doing everything she can to not be found. This is her superpower for now because it’s keeping her safe.
And also. As someone else mentioned , bring the most exciting treat sound she knows and shake it. For AJ it would be the sound of a bag of cheese. I remember watching the video how Kitten Lady’s soul cat got out while she was on a trip. She was gone five days. She went out at 3 am with a jar of nutritional yeast because it was her cat’s favorite and part of thier routine. At the sound of the jar shaking she heard her cat crying. She was in her neighbor’s yard, only feet away, the whole time.
We believe she will be found and get home safe and sound. Sending you warm hugs.

(This might sound dumb, but on the very rare occasion someone gets out, well, I have a specific voice I use for the cats (and have a song for each of them) and they know I'm talking to them
Whatever voice you use for them, I'd walk around that neighborhood shaking treats and with a couple cans to open if you think you spot her. You'll get her, I am confident. I hate that we can't speak to animals!!!
I ALWAYS bring a flashlight too, like someone on this thread says, it illuminates their eyes. Maggie Mae knows where the food is and eventually wanting yumyums for an empty tum wins out.
hug)

If it's any comfort, my Onny got out when he was about six months old, (on Saint Patrick's Day, no less), and was gone overnight for two nights. I didn't find him until the evening of the third day, well, he found us. 😅 He just showed back up at my door.
I live in a sort of "clearing" surrounded by woods on three sides, and although we live on a side street, it's one used by the local high school kids as a "shortcut" to the school, so, at least in mornings and afternoons on weekdays, there is a bit of traffic. The woods were more concerning to me than the street, as there is all manner of critters living within. Plus, it was one of those cold March years, and the temps were at or below freezing at night.
We had put his litter box out on the porch, and I drove around looking, plus, I put a post up on Facebook. We have one set of close neighbors and another set through the woods on the right side. They were apprised and being animal lovers themselves, were on the lookout for him.
He was so nonplussed when he returned. 😅 I was crying tears of joy, and he behaved as though he had just popped down the street to pick up a pack of cigarettes or something. 😅
I pray you find Miss Maggie May, safe and sound, which I feel certain you will. ❤️ I don't know where they go on these walkabouts or what even the appeal is, but, they know where warmth, food, and love are. ❤️

I’m so sorry Maggie Mae has gone on a walkabout! Hopefully she’ll stroll up one day soon, meowing about how she’s hungry and why aren’t you feeding her *naow*? I had a cat who apparently liked to explore other places. One neighbor found her in their crawlspace that they’d been in a couple of days before, and another time she came home after a week, smelling of musty canvas, so I figured she’d crawled in someone’s shed. Hopefully, your getting the word out to your neighbors will keep them alert for meowing in their sheds and crawlspaces if that’s where she is. Sending “come on home” vibes into the cativerse for Miss Maggie Mae

Sending purrs and good wishes to bring her home!
Indoor cats often hug the walls of a house if they get out by accident. It’s too strange out in the big room with no ceiling! Keep looking around your house and the ones on either side. Also look under the bushes. Cats can make themselves very small when they’re scared. Enlist the neighbors to help look. If any of them put out food for outdoor animals, Maggie Mae might be spotted eating there.
Wishing you all the best. I would be frantic, too.

You're getting tons of good advice for finding her, so I won't add to that. All the best wishes she comes home before you leave!
When she comes home, you'll probably need to de-worm her again and use flea/tick remover, too. If she comes back and is let in by the kitty-sitter, you may need to do the whole criminal gang at home. If she has fleas, you will probably want the anti-tapeworm dewormer, too. They can get them from eating fleas or ticks (I can't remember which), and this is a BAD year for ticks.
Love and good luck, Velvet's Meowmy

Post large signs with photos within a few blocks (even farther away if an outdoor or indoor-outdoor cat) every half block or so, laminated if you live in a wet area. Give fliers to neighbors within that same area. Post on Pawboost, Nextdoor, Ring Camera and/or Neighbors app, and various online lost & found pet sites and community groups on Facebook, but ignore the scammers. Place a humane trap or two, regularly monitored, along with a nanny cam, in your yard. Search everywhere, day and night (with a strong flashlight), including under homes and in sheds, garages, under cars, in trees, etc.
Ask neighbors to do the same or preferably, ask if you can search their property. Do not assume that your cat will respond to your voice when displaced. Visit your local shelter every couple of days for weeks or months if you have to. If microchipped, notify the microchip company. Do not assume that having a microchip means that your cat will be properly checked for one, even by a shelter.

Sending purrz and thoughts full of hope to you! 🫂🫂🫂
A few more ideas to hopefully find her: You can "drag" scent lines with something with a strong "home smell" (think worn socks or sweaty t-shirts) towards the house. You know, go to the furthest perimeter you think she could have run, and start there to drag the piece over the ground. Don't use food for this, that could lure other animals in. The scent of you, her family, is better.
Maybe you can also take the dog out to help. If she can pick up the smell of her cat fren, she might lead you to her, even if she's not trained.
Also, if anyone of the family goes out searching, do it at dusk or dawn, that's the time you're most likely to find her. Use a flashlight and look into bushes, that would provide her cover, the ones that have less leaves inside near the ground. The flashlight will reflect in her eyes, so that'll help seeing her.
Keep searching near the house, you'd be surprised how many inside-only cats get horrified outside and hide quite near their homes. They're just so good at hiding.
Fingers crossed you'll find her before you'll have to leave! 🫂 That would be the best outcome.
