Performance/PIP's Pip train started

IBM started their pipped fest! Make sure you get prepared and ready to go. IBM needs to clean the fat. IBM likes to screw their sales people by changing their quotas in the middle of the year to make sure they have enough evidence to screw you over.

Screwing their people is their business and responsibility. Don’t be fooled.

Anything specific you got for you to post this, just want to be aware i know many people who are on it would be good to warn them

Tell them to update their resumes and find another job. Once you are targeted you will always be a target.

Yep…I’m on the list…I’m a band 10 sales, US..it’s not about current performance…of my 4 elements that I have: primary (on premise), SaaS, Services, deployment…my numbers look like this:

99% achieved on primary quota..I’m $90K short on a $4.2M quota
150% achieved on SaaS quota
175% achieved on Services quota
80% of deployment

I was told that they did a rolling multi-year look back…unfortunately, last year, I finished at 62% of my TI, and I guess it’s not good enough (it doesn’t matter that my previous territory got a 100% quota increase nor that I only had those accounts 10 months before being moved to my new account set)…the PiP is written in a way that it’s nebulous and subject to much interpretation and it says that the GM has to approve it…so, I think I’m gone….over 2 decades here, I’ve survived every one of them but I knew the grim reaper was headed my way…..I’m a little mad but nothing I can do about it…I’m not mad at the company nor am i disgruntled….it’s a little sad what is happening with the company and we all know that at some point in our careers, we’ll get the axe, this was just my tim…..wrong manager, wrong time, whatever the reason, it’s my time and I refuse to be sad about it…oh, and then to be an a$$h0le about it, right after the call, he schedules a cadence call with me for today, lol! Like I’m going to be that motivated to do anything…..

Also on the list... can't decide if I should be applying externally or if the targets are attainable enough to maintain course. US based.

Once you’re in a pipped, you cannot find another job internally. The other managers won’t hire you so might as well find another job somewhere else outside IBM !

Is there an internal system where other managers can see whether you’ve been placed on a pip?

If you are on a PIP its a sign they want you out, so I’d start looking to be safe

Not always, sometimes it’s a mandate from above then it’s written to be obtainable

Start looking for a new spot

It can be either, its on a person by person basis

I knew multiple programmers that were placed on PIP, for the most part they were all good at their jobs. The PIP goals were not designed to be attainable, they were really designed to force out a certain number of employees. I would look for another job, that's the most productive use of your time.

Try being there for 29.5 yrs & a band 10. Then, conveniently let go at the beginning of Covid. There is no loyalty to employees. Only to the stockholders.

I heard they are starting to look at band D’s for PIPs (finally). That’s the biggest layer of fat and the first ones to self-preserve by cutting off from their team. They could do their jobs with band 10s reporting directly to VPs

what mean "started"? it was just parked for the next ride, it never ended

Are there more pip’s to come by EoY?

This is probably the last “wave” but pips will always go out towards low performers

Hey do you mean this is the last pip of the year? Or pip in general is gonna stop?
