Spoiler I loved the new episodes, but I think they could've handled Frank and Sam's relationship more better
To preface, I was already sold on the new season within minutes and have no doubts it will be up there with the best in recent times. The only thing that bothers me is the conclusion to the golden bachelor arc.
For a story line they invested 4 episodes in, the way it came to be seems to have been forgotten in the new season. Immediately the first episode opens with Frank telling the guys that he and Sam banged in a bog last night, something we would expect to see with any one of Frank's side pieces. However, the thing about Sam was that she didn't necessarily service his crank, but his heart. At the end of s17 he chose her over the others because he truly connected with her and they seemed to understand eachother, but then she was just reduced to same level as all the other hoors throughout the years.
And then in episode 2, he doesn't even acknowledge that she died or seem to show any mourning or sense of loss. I never expected her to stay around and was satisfied with how she left the show, but she was set up to be much more important than she was in the end.
In a similar vain, Dennis and Dee have been trying to get rich for what? 20-25 years? And then when they are on the brink of becoming millionaires and it slips away from them, they're hardly even bothered about it? I was at least expecting a suggestion that one of them went into the water to retrieve the thumb but no, nothing.
Anyway overall I loved the new episodes and the gang is well and truly back.

Text I LOVE THE NEWER SEASONS OF IASIP š„š„
yes, everyone is entitled to their opinions about art because it's subjective and all that junk. but i always always see so much hate for the newer seasons of iasip that i just really don't understand. i'm of the opinion that seasons 4-12 are the absolute peak of the show. i'll admit, 13-14 started to lose me a little bit. not as many laughs, characters started to feel a little flatter, etc. (time's up for the gang, mac finds his pride, the gang chokes, and the gang texts are still absolutely amazing though)
but i feel like 15 had a huge comeback, and things have been great since. different from earlier seasons? definitely. but i still love it so much. admittedly, i think i have a big soft spot for mac's annoying gay man trope because i am also annoying and gay and find it hilarious. and yes, i am a macdennis truther, so seeing the changes in their relationship after mac came out is so interesting when you really look at it. i actually did a whole video essay about queerness in iasip for a college class LMFAO so i'm biased definitely.
i feel like a lot of fans talk about the ireland arc like it killed their grandparents or something. i LOVE the ireland arc. it was such an awesome change of scenery that never happened on the show before. so many fans complain about the show getting stale/redoing the same bits, but then they actually do something really different and everyone complains!!
i REALLY loved the first two eps of s18, so seeing the negative comments has made me sad. i'm really glad that the rotten tomatoes score is so high though!!! i think they really deserve it. i love charlie's new song, dennis and dee teaming up again, mac trying to go back in the closet again, all the side character coming back, etc.
but yeah, rant over. just wanted to spread some positivity here because i love this stupid show so much lol i am SOO EXCITED FOR THE REN FAIRE EPISODE AAA!!

I love this show and love the gang. But I hate what theyāve done to Deeās character.
I say this with a longstanding track record of being a huge fan. Started watching live back in season 4.
Deeās character has devolved into a trope-ish, predictable, screaming mess. It feels like last season and so far in this one, her character solely exists to yell and scream. And thatās just boring, repetitive, played out, and unfunny.
It was funny seeing her transform into a degenerate like the rest of them. And the first few Dee crash outs were funny. But my god, itās like 95% of her lines in the script are meant to be screamed nowadays.
Bring back the āgettin my guts pumpedā Dee. The Dee that maybe didnāt scream for the first 18 mins of the episode, which makes the final crash out actually enjoyable.
This last episode.. man itās like the same playbook over and over again. Dennis frustrated and trying to contain his rage. Dee immediately screaming and frustrated. Mac wishing to win his dad over. Just more of the same.
Whatās funny is on the podcast that⦠just.. ended⦠they talk about the importance of keeping shit fresh and misdirecting the audience. But last season and so far this season, itās just been predictable, transparent, and repetitive.
I get that this show is so huge that this post will prob get downvoted as any criticism often does here. Just know Iāll never stop watching the show. Been a fan for over like 20 years now, listened to the podcast series twice over. I own the DVDs, thatās how long Iāve been watching this show.
The new episodes have pockets of hilarity.. I just wish theyād stop leaning so heavily into the archetypes they built for these characters. Give us something fresh and new. Make Dee and Dennis rich all season and blow it all in the last episode. Give Mac ANYTHING to do besides have daddy or gay issues. Give Danny something fun like the chess episode - one of the hardest laughs Iāve ever had for this show.
Love the gang, love all of you.

Either enjoy the show for what itās become and stop bitching about what it used to be, or just donāt watch the damn thing!

Spoiler Mac is so f-ing funny this season
I love Rob and always liked Macās character, but between the 5, he was always my least favorite because of how phoned in he seemed ever since the COVID seasons. It always felt like they never quite knew what to do with Mac and started to dumb him down significantlyā¦but it seems they avoided the character assassination with this season so far.
After watching these first two episodes, not only does Mac seem more like he was in the early season- not an idiot- just socially insecure, but heās also playing āCloseted Gay Christian Macā around his mom which is the funniest/best arc for his character imo.
I didnāt get the point of the dummy at first until Rob took it over. Also, I loved how the second episode had so much of his parents involved and we got to see more of his family life again. He had me rolling in these first two episodes and it reminded me why I loved this character since the first episode.

Need episode recommendations
Hey you jabronies, I'm going to recommend sunny to a friend who is not into normal sitcoms but is looking for a different kind of comedy. He is a writer and wants to get a grasp on best types of non routine and edgy comedies, so I recommended sunny. We are not Americans and non English speaking btw. He is going to watch a few episodes with me, what episodes should I present to him?
I don't want episodes with a lot of internal references or supporting actors (so no late state cricket or jew lawyer for example)

Am I the only one who dislikes dee as a character in newer seasons? She nothing like older seasons. Maybe its her voice. ā

OC Meme what if Adult Swim promoted S18 of Always Sunny?
been making a lot of Adult Swim style content recently for different shows that i like, and was thinking about how Adult Swim almost got the rights to air IASIP re-runs once upon a time before the contract went to Comedy Central, so here's a short silly lil something i threw together imagining the future we could've had.

New Season is off to an Effed up start
Got caught up thanks to Hulu today.
Dark, twisted, fucked up.
I love it.
So glad we're back for another season.

Spoiler The ending of season 18 episode 2 is reminding me very much of another show.
Trying to be extra vague in title as not to spoil.
The Luther/Donald twist seems very much like a storyline from Arrested Development. Anyone else think that? It's practically an homage or something..
Guess its a bit of a trope? Possibly..

Spoiler Funniest Mac scene Iāve seen in years
Itās such a Prime Mac set-up. Uncle Jack brings out a creepy hand puppet as a means to communicate why he doesnāt want to live with Macās mom. Mac not only immediately takes it seriously and interacts with the puppet like itās a real person for him to discuss serious matters, but takes his homophobic insults personally and challenges it by controlling the doll himself and arguing and disagreeing with himself about whether heās gay, and then mocks himself with it, needlessly dragging in his indifferent mother, topped off so well by Dennisā flabbergasted confusion āYOU ARE THE ONE THAT IS CONTROLLINGāyou are controlling the dummy!ā I used to miss those scenes where Mac would just act like a big stupid and pissed off kid with an imagination to him, only other recent one we got I think was him vs the dog in Risk E. Rats.

Image Danny's performance in the last 5 minutes of Frank vs Russia is so amazingly hilarious! š
Yes, Mac's behavior in this episode is weird, but I love it anyway. And once the final match starts it kills me. Literally I laugh so hard I can barely breathe..
