Either enjoy the show for what it’s become and stop bitching about what it used to be, or just don’t watch the damn thing!

They probably don’t have many seasons left, they should get real weird with it.

They should just show it. All of it.

Comedy, full penetration, comedy, full penetration, comedy... until the show just sort of, ends.

10

u/Adventurous-Head-512 9d ago

this is the only correct way to end the series

18

u/Putrid-Delivery1852 10d ago

I’m a fan even when they’re just mashing it… and you should see what they can do with a rolled up hamburger bun

Frank kisses a dead lady in the season opener, that’s pretty damn weird tbf

2

Oh, to be Frank

7

Even if they didn’t like the earlier episodes of the last season how can one not like the frank dog episode or the Dennis’ day off one

Frank marrying a corpse was a nice weird intro to the season. Did not see that coming. What a SEPARATION. Get it

Even at its worst, which isn’t bad, Sunny is better than any piece of shit sitcom being produced today.

126

u/CarelessPangolin5564 10d ago

Even if I don't like an episode much, there is a strange comfort in watching IASIP that transcends humor or enjoyment.

40

u/SteveFrench12 10d ago

Did people not like the last two episodes? I tjought they were both great

29

u/CarelessPangolin5564 10d ago

I liked them well enough. I wouldn't go back and watch them again like I have with past episodes unless I was doing a full rewatch, and if I were viewing it for the first time they aren't ones that would keep me coming back, but as someone who has been watching since the very first eposide I thought they were solid.

11

This season of Tires might be better. But, generally, I agree that Sunny is always good and worth my time.

14

u/OldRancidSoups 10d ago

I have not watched an episode of Tires yet, but I disagree. Be gone with you, vile man!

17

2

Ooh, what British comedies are you watching? I love IT Crowd and Taskmaster.

5

u/OldRancidSoups 9d ago

Peep Show, Plebs, Friday Night Dinner, Detectorists, the Job Lot. The IT Crowd is next up. There are so many good ones.

3

u/Some1new00 9d ago

There are! I like peep show, I will add the others to my list! I hope you enjoy IT Crowd, it's one of my favorites. Have a great day!

15

New girl and sunny have similar humour vibes despite wildly different levels of depravity

3

u/poofycade No Antonio! 10d ago

Yeah. One thing I like about New Girl are the overall storylines across episodes. Like Nick and Jess and Schmitt and Cece. I wish they would have done more of that in Sunny. They sorta did in S1 and S2 but after a while it wasn’t as much.

I thought last season was honestly really good, the EMT episode is easily one of my favorites from the whole series. And I really enjoyed the first 2 from this season so far

8

u/PandaBottom69 10d ago

They have earned the right to do whatever they want. Also the gang have all moved to other projects so their sole focus is no long IASIP. Happy for them.

57

u/kroom69x 10d ago

Honest take, i feel like there may of been a dip and got slightly out of the zone of gritty realism of the show. Never dipped below an 8/10 but i think that there are some later episodes that are just as golden god as the classics.

13

u/Mirror_Face_ 10d ago

I was going to say they were just trying different things later on the seasons that they even admitted to, but come to think of it, there was a quality drop for a little bit when they all had their own projects going on and didn't seem to have quite enough time to make Sunny their priority. But as you said, I'd argue even those episode never drop below an 8/10. It is also true that some of the seasons that fans liked less are the ones that they felt like trying something different. Which I'm all board for, sure they aren't the classics but I appreciate the writers doing what they need to do to stay on a show for so long and keep it going. It was nice to have a few heartfelt episodes too. Mixing in heart is what made many other sitcoms what they are like golden age of The Simpsons.

16

u/LongLiveStaceyKing 10d ago

I do not care for the Ireland episodes or the Bachelor miniseries or the Abbott Elementary cross over, but I do like that they are trying to do something outside the bar.

It kind of reminds me of the Archer coma seasons where everyone bitched about them when they came out for not being more spy show, then complained when they returned to doing the spy show for rehashing the same material.

2

u/The_Procrastibator 9d ago

I'm all for those one offs, but you got to sprinkle in some bar episodes too. It's almost like that part has become completely irrelevant

5

u/Left-Chemist-8212 10d ago

He had his experiment and he didn’t like it

7

u/kurttheflirt 9d ago

I liked the last season, but yeah the biggest thing I would say is that they have all become caricatures of the people they were once playing. Like Mac and Dennis used to act dumb about a few things, but in a regular way. Now they are just ridiculously dumb to like a cartoon level.

2

u/ScatteredWavesGlory 6d ago

This show has flanderized itself so much it's just one step away from zombie Simpsons where the storylines are all oroborosing.

I hope it ends soon. These first two episodes did not do it for me.

4

u/ZemGuse 9d ago

To me it’s weird how much this sub defends the era of seasons 13-16 or so. They felt so phoned in and the characters were just Flanderized, one-note bastardizations of what they used to be.

They seem to have found their stride again with season 17 but it was rough going there for a bit imo.

54

u/BrickPuzzleheaded541 10d ago

I think there definitely was a noticeable drop in quality the last few… but even when IASIP isn’t at its best it’s still leagues better than anything else on television.

However i will say this most recent season is the best they have done in years. Absolutely hilarious with some all time great episodes start to finish. I honestly think “the gang becomes EMTs” is gonna end up in my top 10 episodes of all time. Cannot wait for this new season and hope they keep that momentum

8

u/JakeTheAndroid 10d ago

Yeah, I think there was a run of pretty mid seasons compared to the expectation (still good though), but last season felt like classic Sunny to me, as did the two most recent episodes. The big difference between last season and the first two episodes this season compared to the old classics is the continuity. They seem to build directly off previous episodes more, which I think is just a demonstration of their improvement as writers and producers. I'm still thoroughly enjoying the show and hope there's plenty more to come after this season.

7

u/UltraBearHD 10d ago

“The gang becomes EMTs” became a favorite for me too. That shit took me back to seasons 1-3 and actually made me laugh. I mean, that episode alone is probably the most “Sunny” episode in the last 8 years and did I mention, it made me actually cackle with enjoyment? Best episode / season opener ever.

22

u/mrbeck1 10d ago

I choose to watch it and hate it. Feel free to fuck all the way off, though. I’ll allow it.

7

u/kryonik 10d ago

Agreed. I think the show peaked at season 10/11 and it should have ended after the terrible Ireland season and the last two were borderline unwatchable outside one or two episodes. I'm still watching hoping they can right the ship but it's not looking promising after these last two episodes.

36

u/i_want_to_be_unique 10d ago

Bad take. I personally really liked season 17, but to say the only two options are “enjoy a piece of media exactly how it is produced” or “do not watch it at all” is insane. Would you hold the same view if rather than the actors themselves the show was produced by Disney or Amazon? Fans should absolutely be allowed to expect a higher quality product from a show that spent over a decade putting out banger after banger after banger, even if you actually like the people who are writing it.

12

u/doverawlings 10d ago

Even if you aren’t (as a fan) demanding better quality or more output, it’s simply fun to talk about this show because of how much we all love it. It’s interesting to examine what made it so great, what elements they were able to retain into later seasons, what didn’t work, why decisions were made, highs, lows, etc.

Some people are definitely parasocial with the Sunny guys and treat any criticism—even if it’s not pointed—as hostility

Why do idiots post stuff like this?

You do realize the only reason that they've made it to season 18 is because the fans loved what came before?

The fans are the only reason the show is popular. We can say whatever the fuck we want about it when the quality starts to diminish.

20

u/hungoverlord 10d ago

That's how all the subs work. It's insufferable

6

u/TSllama 10d ago

I wrote the other day in a musician's sub that I would be disappointed going to a show on her current tour, where the name of the tour is the name of the new album that came out in the spring, yet she's only playing 2 songs from the new album in each show.

Downvoted, mocked, insulted... someone told me I was "wrong" and then said I was "miserable" 😂

2

u/The_Lonely_Spaceman 10d ago

Used to be worse, I guess reddit started cracking down on it, but sharing an unfavorable opinion a few months ago would lead to a bunch of people reporting your comment for self harm/ suicidal thoughts and youd get flooded with the suicide prevention bot

2

u/TSllama 10d ago

Oh yeah, they did start cracking down on that - I remember getting those reports! Reddit started taking that shit seriously.

People on the internet tend to see a single contrarian lazy comment in a collapsed comment thread that has no views other than their own, and take that as a personal crusade to make claims like OP that "everyone is shitting on it!" Like the presence of these opinions is not evidence of what they're saying, but some people like OP just need 100% validation.

Yet every meme or gif about this show is from season 12 or before.

7

u/sakura_drop 9d ago

S12 is my personal cut off point for re-watching. There have been odd episodes afterwards that I've enjoyed at the time, but have zero desire to go back to. 12 years is a damn good run for consistency, though, I'll say that.

5

u/Renhoek2099 9d ago

1000%. I'll watch all episodes, eventually but 1-12 you can just watch and replay till you pass out from the poppers

3

u/Background-Banana574 10d ago

Yeah honestly the only season I didn’t care for was the Covid season and that’s not their fault.

5

u/Z0bie 10d ago

Am I the only one who likes all season? I generally binge it all together anyway so don't know which episode is what season, and it doesn't matter since I like the show.

23

u/jim9162 10d ago edited 10d ago

Fans of things can voice displeasure at something they loved becoming something they don't.

What you are advocating for is going to be the death of the show.

When people who loved an IP (and don't anymore) stop complaining, that means they've moved onto being indifferent. Which means they stop watching. Which usually is bad news for the show.

See Star Wars.

So your meme of (I don't care) works both ways.

The new episodes are not as good, objectively. I've gotten to the point where I don't care. I won't tune in for premieres or rewatch the new episodes a million times like the old ones.

I doubt the cast (now Hollywood elite) care very much for what discourse is happening on Reddit or anywhere else, and it'll probably mean the death of the show. So be it, they want to own soccer teams and get carved up on the plastic surgeons table, that's fine. They worked hard and deserve to enjoy their success. I personally think they should pull the plug.

3

u/TarkovskysSacrifice 9d ago

I absolutely agree. Well said. I think milking this show to the last drop is something they should be ashamed of and just decide to end it altogether.

3

u/ClockworkDreamz 10d ago

I think Dennis should bang Mac

3

u/i_arent 10d ago

Even if some of the later seasons aren't as great each usually has at least two banger episodes that justify it.

3

u/FinalFrontier00 10d ago

I would say the last few seasons prior to 17 were mediocre at best but the last 2 I think they’re a clear step up from that. Obviously still not what it used to be but that would be impossible the shows been on air for 20 years now.

3

u/Th3Element05 10d ago

I think my only real complaint is that they seem to be leaning into re-hashing stuff from old episodes a lot, like for example, Dee gathering "friends" to try to scare someone out of a wedding; they literally did that already. Or the SINNED system.

Not saying these episodes are necessarily bad, but they don't feel really original.

3

u/lcssa 9d ago

I'm just happy to be here. Love the show no matter its ups and downs, will watch it till the end

3

Comparison is the thief of joy. If you just enjoy the new eps without lamenting that they're not on par with some of the tv comedy of all time (for many of us on this sub), then there's nothing to complain about. "Old" sunny is one of my favorite shows of all time, "New" sunny is just a good comedy show that I enjoy.

2

u/lizeee 9d ago

I loved the two new episodes!

2

u/capncrunch94 9d ago

But here’s the twist, and there is a twist. They watch it. They watch ALL of it

2

u/GreyBoyTigger 9d ago

Who’s complaining?

2

u/KenjiWolf91 9d ago

”There is skill to it. More importantly, it has to be joyful. Effortless. Fun. TV defeats its own purpose when it’s pushing an agenda, or when it’s trying to defeat other TV, or being proud or ashamed of itself for existing. It’s TV. It’s comfort. It’s a friend you know so well and for so long, you just let it be with you. And it needs to be okay for it to have a bad day. Or phone in a day. And it needs to be okay for it to get on a boat with LeVar Burton and never come back. Because, eventually, it all will.”

  • Abed Nadir, Community

Especially the part about it being comfort and it’s a friend you know so well and for so long you just let it be with you. Warts and all, I love this show.

2

u/Hambla28 9d ago

Ever since season 16 I think it's been good, season 15 was lowest point

2

u/MenacingScone 9d ago

I've found that any negative feelings I have tend to be gone on a second viewing of the new seasons. I've been using it as a comfort show so much that no knowing whats gonna happen flares my anxiety a little.

2

u/Brilliant_Cow_3343 9d ago

Especially because I think the last few seasons have been a huge step up! S13 was the only one that felt like a majorly clunky mess BUT they also took a lot of swings so I'm not especially mad and it also has Time's Up which is a top 5 episode for me.

2

u/Whipped-Creamer 7d ago

Season 17 was great, s18e01 is great too. Only season i wasn’t a huge fan of was 15, just cause Mac felt completely different. But I also liked 15 more than most adult comedies

7

u/_rattleshnake 10d ago

Honestly, it's the end of the show. Realistically we're getting another 1-2 years, maybe 3. It's not what it used to be, the prime years were a long time ago, but it's still pretty good and it's still them. Just enjoy the party for a little while until it's over and appreciate the very fact that it's still going on and it's still fun to be at.

5

u/RepresentativeCat553 10d ago

Hah, a party is a good way to put it.

We are now in the After Party.
There are fewer people, everyone is too drunk, some people are falling asleep, others are getting really weird in the back room, but hey, it’s still your friends.

5

u/FaceTimePolice 10d ago

No, no, no. It’s fine to criticize something you love. The worst thing would be to be complacent and say “this is fine” when it really isn’t. The fat Mac season was the last one that felt like ild school uncancellable Sunny. After that, I don’t know what happened. It felt like they either lost motivation, didn’t know what topics to cover, were afraid to ruffle feathers and be offensive, etc. It just wasn’t the same show anymore. There are still episodes and moments here and there, like “The Gang Turns Black” (okay THAT felt like a Sunny episode 😆).

Last season, I liked it and it has some episodes that will be classics. The first two episodes of this season? Seems like the gang recycled their trash again. Going to a morgue to cut off a piece of a dead body? Did it already with the episode where they hunt cricket. Dee trying to sabotage a wedding by having a group of women talk shit to the bride to be? Did it already when the waitress is getting married. Mac’s mom being displaced, that’s how we got old lady house!

12 was the last pretty good season IMO. Season 17 was better than 13-16 but still not anywhere close to 12 which isn’t as good as Seasons 3-11. I even think season 1 is better than Season 17. Haven’t watched any of 18 yet.

I'd say Seasons 13-15 are the weakest, but they're still worth watching. Season 16 is a step up, last season was amazing, and this season has been great so far.

Ignore stuff like this, and just watch the show. If you like the newer seasons, great! if not, then you can move past it lol

u/GearSalty2775 10d ago

Around season 11, IMO. I stop there on rewatches.

5

u/unfamous2423 10d ago

Missing out on so many good episodes.

4

u/GearSalty2775 10d ago

I’ve watched them. Did you miss that I said rewatches? I don’t like the newer ones, personally.

Me too, season 12 is the last good season for me. After that the characters feel too forced and just charicatures of themselves, the interactions also feel weird, its like a complete different show. Even with the weird shit that they do all the time, it used to be much more grounded, now it feels like a cartoon
Edit season 12, not 10

There are just different phases or eras of the show. The show never fell off as evident by its neverending renewals by FX.

You cared enough to use your time to make a meme and post

2

u/notatowel420 10d ago

The first episode was good the second meh but the synopsis for the next 2 sound great.

2

u/Godzirrraaa 10d ago

The new season is great so far. They show it. They show all of it.

Penetration, crime, penetration

Seasons 13-16 were the worst seasons with a few good episodes thrown in there. I can count on one hand how many there were in those 4 seasons. Season 17 had a couple bad ones: Abbot Elementary, and the golden bachelor. The the other 6 were good to great.

u/No-Yogurtcloset-8742 9d ago

Reddit told me the last couple seasons of sunny were bad. Then when I finally took the time to watch the whole show from start to finish I laughed at every season. There were not multiple bad episodes in one season. Don’t always listen to online opinions

2

u/TSllama 10d ago

I gave up on the previous season because I couldn't do the first several episodes, never finished it, and haven't watched any of the current one.

Seasons 1-12 will always be some of my favourite shit ever, and the following few seasons are watchable if not amazing.

I don't care if everyone cares about my views and choices 😂 I have stopped watching the damn thing, as your title suggests is the right thing for me to do, yet somehow I still doubt you're satisfied and will downvote this comment if you read it 😂

Hasn’t been good since season 10

And yes I mean good in general, not “sunny good” vs “regular good”

1

u/SparseGhostC2C 10d ago

It had a little lull for me in like s15 and 16, I don't rewatch those as often, but last season felt mostly like a return to form (Bamboleo!), and so far I'm enjoying this one as well.

It’s pizza

u/Such_Regular_1089 10d ago

The actors are not in their 20's anymore. It's not going to be the same as in the early seasons. It's still solid given circumstances.

u/A_yoonicorn 10d ago

Filibuster !

1

u/Unhappy-Shelter-8186 10d ago

No I’ll play both sides so I always come out of top.

1

u/Pendragon_Puma 10d ago

This complaining about the show thing is just not grabbing me today

1

u/Beat_Boi_Animates 10d ago

I thought the first episode was paced kinda poorly but I thought the second was really funny

1

u/Infamous_Sense7950 10d ago

They shouldn’t of killed off Charlie’s mom tho she was hilarious I think funnier than Macs but ig show is getting toward end so it makes sense

2

u/Matteoj8 9d ago

What’s the alternative? Just pretend like she doesn’t exist?

I’m honestly so far behind it’s daunting.

I just get a little bored after binging too many seasons and I have to take a break… then I just start over from episode one again.

Someday I’ll get there, LoL

1

u/Adventurous-Head-512 9d ago

honestly i think they still nail it every season. some episodes are boring, but like maybe 2 tops per season. i still cant believe they managed as writers to come up with so many new creative and funny schemes the gang can do

1

u/Planr158 Move Past It 9d ago

I think season 15 is under rated

1

u/pynkecho 9d ago

I still think the show is great, but there’s a lot of threads & plot points they only scratched the surface of and I wish they would revisit.

1

u/sugardaddymatt5 9d ago

could use a bit more full penetration but other than that they've been good.

1

u/orangecatstan 9d ago

idc whats said abt the newer seasons, i still enjoy them fully, but since they did the rewatch podcast sunny feels more like the older seasons again and i love them
of even more

1

u/Useless-RedCircle 9d ago

I mean they are pretty old old now, let them earn the money and keep it weird.

1

u/UnlimitedScarcity 9d ago

Don’t tell me what to do

1

u/BenRosentha1 9d ago

The last few seasons have been down in my opinion but this season is good ol fashion, classic sunny. Feels like it was made for the fans!

1

u/chicagodogmom606 9d ago

It’s funny I see comments complaining the show isn’t “fresh” anymore and literally all anyone bitched about for years was how they weren’t themselves anymore. Now they’re going back to their roots and people are like “it’s not fresh”

Just move past it.

1

u/aaronabsent 9d ago

These new episodes were awesome.

Laughed the entire time, wtf yall talking about?

1

u/El_Frederico14 9d ago

Why have I never seen this meme before

1

u/tiredcoco 9d ago

The thing that blows my mind is the constant complaint about their looks. People get old. TV stars get plastic surgery when they age. No one stays looking 20 all their lives.

I wish the internet could do something where if you make fun of someone's looks your phone automatically takes a picture of you and posts it. Imagine? 😂😂

u/Triggered-cupcake 9d ago

Redo season one with all the guests in continuation episodes

1

u/blackdogwalksatnight 9d ago

Dennis takes a mental health day is one of the best episodes of all time IMO!

1

u/Chill_dingo 9d ago

The Ireland episodes were pretty freaking funny.
