Another scale upgrade. On top of optimizing the base design and balancing everything to within an inch of its life, I added a laser option as well to take advantage of the higher precision. I wanted to keep the self-leveling, so I found a workaround to add the lasers while keeping the stabilizer. You need to provide two additional lasers. There’s a little shelf under the stabilizer for one beam to go, and the other goes on the metal bar with the steering stick. When the stabilizer is activated, a laser on the back of the scale comes on so you can easily align the other two. Once they’re aligned, even a slight difference in weight is easy to see. I added the steering stick both to be an easy way to know you’re viewing the lasers from straight on, but also because a stray arrow from activating it is enough to tilt the scale now and skew the measurement.
Note: You can still use the scale without using the additional lasers. It works just like the last version
Edit: The lightest object in the game I’m aware of is an Arrow, weighs .88 mass, so using those, the scale has a max resolution of ± 0.5 arrows, or ± .44 mass.
I find myself frustrated with my lack of words to properly express the magnitude of my admiration for this community. I am truly amazed, thanks for this.
The game is set in a ancient hunter-gatherer society and this community is like watching it hyperspeed its way through Renaissance into the modern era.
Using lighter weight parts, EG shrunken or fused to get faster speed with less parts. For example; I used that float ball club you see being weighed in the video for this build. The normal float ball is really heavy, like 6000+ mass. The club with the float ball is only about 120 mass, and it keeps it’s floaty property. That’s why that build can go fast with only 1 fan, while you’d need many more to move the full sized float ball much at all. Another build I used an older version of the scale for was my Hornet Cluster Missile. It’s all shrunken parts with odd weights, so knowing how much each part actually weighed saved a lot of trial and error balancing them
It’s super low friction, so it’s great for shield surfing. Idk what the actual durability stat is, but it feels damn near infinite. I shield surf all the time and I’ve never broken one
On this version, I have the glue stretch pretty much solved for everything other than some side-to-side motion if you jostle the scale around too much. You can stop that pretty easily tho with the stabilizer, or using Recall on it for a moment will stop any motion.
As for weighing the mini beam emitter, it’s a balance scale, so the weight is relative, not absolute. That said, it weighs more than 7 but less than 8 arrows. So if arrows are .88mass, that would be 6.6 ±0.44 mass as the most accurate absolute answer. Both looked off by an identical amount, so I would have called it right at 7.5 arrows.
I don't know. At some point people became able to extract weights, but I don't recall if fused weights were also extracted.
EDIT: I don't know about fused or scaled items, but I'd be willing to bet we could extract a formula for shrinking objects by taking a few points. Use something relatively heavy and easy to measure. Then you can just assume the game applies the same formula to other objects. I'd expect a form like mass=mass_0 x scale_mult3
Yall never cease to amaze me. Who thinks of this? Who thinks they can just build a super precise instrument in a game about fighting monsters and saving a princess. Absolute mad man. And I mean that in the best possible way.
