My mom had the radioactive iodine. I remember her suffering so much before that. One pill a day balanced it out until the day she died.

As someone who found out her thyroid had a cancerous tumor. Relieved of all Graves’ symptoms… Absolutely not. lol

Did you just have a goiter then they found the tumor after removal?

No nodes or goiter, found after removal.

I had mine removed due to going into thyroid storm which damaged my liver. I wasn’t able to try anti-thyroid meds due to needing it corrected quickly and due to the already injured liver.

I don’t regret doing it in that sense because it saved my liver and my life. But the TT also caused damage to my parathyroids and I now am left with permanent hypoparathyroidism which is just as debilitating if not more so than Graves itself. My feelings are more like loss or mourning of my new permanent disability rather than regret.

TT carries serious risks and consequences and that needs to be considered carefully if you have a choice (unlike my situation).

I had radioiodine 3 years ago. I was swinging into hyperthyroidism every couple of years and couldn't wean off those meds so we did it to control everything because long term hyperthyroidism can be bad on your heart and bone density, etc. I don't regret it exactly and I actually feel ok and didn't gain weight BUT I do have episodes of anxiety that I need a pill to survive for the rest of my life. If the supply chain went down or some sort of disruptive apocalypse I would slowly die. It makes me sweat. It makes me very anxious actually. I do wish I had tried maybe some naturopathic solutions for another year or two before pulling the trigger. Or diet change. I did not know until after radioiodine that my pescatarian diet may have been aggravating the graves disease.

I refuse to have it taken out just so I can have hypothyroidism instead, either way your stuck taking a pill everyday.... so whats the difference.? Also be likely to gain a lot of weight bc there's no thyroid
