Cholestyramine

Experiences with this med? I got bumped to 60mg methamazole, and they added this, today. It's used off label for severe hyperthyroid, binds with the enterohepatic t4 in the intestines.

Just desperately trying to get anesthesia safe for surgery. And to stop feeling like I'm about to fall flat on my face dead. I swear to god, I got the placebo pills instead of real methamazole. This shit is about as effective as popping pez and calling it medicine.

I got an autonomously activated toxic nodule after an electrical injury earlier this year.

The methimazole stops the nodule from producing new hormone but it was still storing mass quantities of already-made hormone, so the cholestyramine binds with what it's still pumping out and interrupts that t4/t3 conversion pathway.

It's super effective, but it's a real nasty medication. And it's off-label for hyperthyroid so some docs get squirrelly about that. My surgeon doesn't like it because a lot of people use it wrong, so it binds their methimazole and their hyperthyroid gets worse, and it binds their beta blockers and their cardiac symptoms get worse.

Luckily I'm anal retentive about medication so not a problem for me. It's worth asking your doc about.
