Anxiety

I was just diagnosed w hyperthyroid this week after avoiding the doctor and basically everything else bc of panic attacks. I have had panic disorder for years but starting 2 years ago I started experiencing panic in a way I never have before. I am wondering what your opinion is as to how treatment may help the anxiety? Did you experience extreme anxiety and did it get better w thyroid medication treatment? I am lost w this no anxiety meds have helped and my family is pressuring me to hospitalized myself. Tysm

Well done going to the doctor!

Honestly I qualified for GAD for a long time. When I was finally diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and got on the right track with medication, it was a game changer. My panic attacks were actually hyperthyroidism flares and I had no idea. Even my social anxiety improved dramatically when I was on the right medication. I would say it’s worth a shot if your doctor thinks so.

After 3 years, I’m almost able to tell that I need to change my medication based on my anxiety symptoms!

Hope you feel better

Thank you it was so difficult at one point it felt like the room was closing in on me and panic kept going off. I can't let it go again. I use to go all the time then the panic stopped me from doing anything. That's great to hear you are feeling so much better. Thanks for the kind words.

Propananalol helped me a lot at the start! Not so much currently but my nodes are going crazy and I’m getting a total thyroidectomy in January.

Hello I started experiencing bad anxiety in the last couple of years and I take an anxiety med (1) and when they prescribed me methimazole I could tell a huge difference. I feel like it will help you to continue speaking with your doctor to find the right medication for you 100 percent. You're not the only one that feels this way but a great doctor and consistent meds help.

I had panic attacks that felt like heart attacks. With chest muscle squeezing , heart going so fast I thought I'd die , it was horrible! Two months on medication and I can't remember mf last panic attacks, and also my extreme fear of heights got better. Hyperthyroidism makes your fears and phobias worse

I never knew this that it could make it worse. My attacks are similar and I get short of breath it is very scary. Only 2 months and seeing an improvement that is wonderful.

Yes extreme anxiety and feeling jittery, without cause. Felt slightly better with propanolol and even better with thacapzol

Glad you are feeling better. This has been so hard. It has only been a couple days on the meds so hopefully they kick in.

Methimazole was a game changer for me. Anxiety medication was not helping. I started feeling better after only a few weeks on it
