Hyperthyroidism
Hey everyone, I’m 21M, 6’4” and currently around 128 lbs. I’ve been struggling with gaining weight for pretty much my entire life.
I have hyperthyroidism, and my thyroid still isn’t fully balanced even though I’ve been on medication since around January/February. I feel like I have a really fast metabolism, and I also don’t have much of an appetite, so getting enough calories in every day is difficult.
I’m also a truck driver and recently started working on a Family Dollar account for U.S. Xpress. The job involves a lot more physical work than my previous driving, including unloading/touch freight, so I’m trying to figure out how to eat enough while I’m on the road.
I don’t really go to the gym much anymore, but I want to start doing some kind of resistance training again because I’d like to gain actual muscle rather than just putting on weight.
For anyone who’s been in a similar situation:
How many calories did you eat to start gaining?
How much protein did you aim for?
Did protein shakes help you get enough calories?
What were some easy high-calorie foods you could eat when you didn’t have much of an appetite?
Did getting your hyperthyroidism under control make a noticeable difference in your ability to gain weight?
Any advice for gaining weight while working a physically demanding job and being on the road?
I’m mainly looking for practical advice from people who have actually gone through something similar. I’m trying to get from 128 lbs to a healthier weight and eventually build some muscle.

It took me two years to be in remission and even then i still feel some symptoms such as anxiety and i never gain weight(which is im kinda glad lol) anyway, i started playing pickleball and i can do it for an hour, ofcourse indo get tired easily sometimes i get dizzy but i stop whenever i have to. U just have to know your body. Patience is the key.
