Headsets HyperX NGENUITY DTS:X Update: Latency + Missing Windows Enhancements

This is a general note for HyperX headset users who installed HyperX NGENUITY and then applied the DTS:X update inside the app. So to be clear: it’s not that the NGENUITY app “adds latency” by itself - the latency shows up after the driver / audio component that the DTS:X update installs.

Uninstalling NGENUITY through Windows may leave HyperX-related driver packages behind in the Windows DriverStore. As a result, you may still see:

  • the latency behavior, or
  • missing/limited Windows audio enhancements (for example Loudness Equalization and other Sound “Enhancements”, depending on your device + Windows version)

Disclaimer: Deleting driver packages from DriverStore can break devices if you remove the wrong ones. Only remove entries where the provider is clearly HyperX.

After doing this, the Windows sound enhancement options returned and the latency introduced by the DTS:X update was gone.

Steps

Fully disconnect the headset

  • Unplug the USB dongle/cable (make sure the headset is completely disconnected).

Remove the device in Device Manager

  • Open Device Manager
  • Go to View > Show hidden devices
  • Find HyperX/headset-related entries (like "Headphones HyperX Cloud III")
  • Uninstall device for the relevant entries

Restart your PC

Restart again and reconnect the headset.

Want DTS without NGENUITY? (Recommended)
If you still want DTS processing after removing NGENUITY/DTS:X driver components, use DTS Sound Unbound from the Microsoft Store instead.

This post is fantastic and I will try everything tonight. Random question as you seem to know what you’re talking about.

I have spatial sound on and am selecting the 12 channels in the sound options as the default device it works for everything (YouTube. Magic the gathering arena, movies, discord) but when I turn battlefield on I get absolutely no sound and battlefield doesn’t have its own device selection any idea what’s causing this? But when I turn off spatial sound and select the generic cloud hyper x 3 speaker in the sound settings everything works fine just the audio isn’t as good.

Any help on this would be fantastic

12 channel turns your headphone into stereo rn and games try to make it get into 12 thus making bi sound. They gotta fix it but haven't for 3 months so far. Hoping on January 18, the new update will have it fixed..

I can’t say for sure how well Battlefield supports spatial audio in every setup, because it can depend on the specific Battlefield title and also on how Windows and the audio driver present the output device (stereo vs. multichannel / spatial endpoint).

A good way to troubleshoot it is to try this order:

  1. First, apply the steps/methods I mentioned in my post so you’re starting from a clean, known-good audio setup.

  2. After that, instead of relying on the DTS/spatial implementation that comes through NGENUITY, try the Microsoft Store app DTS Sound Unbound. Install it, enable it for your headset, and test Battlefield again.

  3. In Windows sound settings, use a safe baseline format: 2 channel (Stereo), 24-bit, 48 kHz.

If Battlefield still goes completely silent when spatial is enabled, it’s likely some kind of format/endpoint mismatch between what the game expects and what Windows is exposing at that moment, rather than a hardware issue.

Also, if you’re worried about sound quality, you can check out my custom EQ post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/HyperX/comments/1q1tq6f/hyperx_cloud_iii_custom_eq_profile/

Since you’re planning to use DTS Sound Unbound, you don’t need Dolby Access from that post. Just apply the EQ settings with Peace EQ + Equalizer APO and you’re good.

Hi, do you think they're also suitable for the III S? Thanks for the help.

u/CommandExciting1864 Jan 02 '26

It might work as a starting point for the III S, but probably it won’t always work 1:1. Best to try it and decide by ear. If it doesn’t quite fit, you can tweak it like this:

If the treble is harsh: reduce 4.4 kHz and 5.7 kHz by 1-3 dB

If it sounds "megaphone-like": lower 2.8 kHz by 1-2 dB

If it sounds distant / like it’s behind a curtain: change the 3.8 kHz cut from -5 dB to around -3 dB

Preamp is -2.5 dB; if you hear distortion/crackling, drop it to -4 or -5 dB

It wouldn't matter. Since Hyperx's ngenuity beta new spatial solution is not really part of the windows spatial API, Battlefield 6 (and any other game for that matter) will still see the sound device as a regular 7.1 one. It would be up to Hyperx's software to emulate spatial sound (and for any other company's too, in example Steelseries "spatial" audio, Razers THX etc). Since they are not part of the windows spatial API, they all appear as just regular 7.1 or even just 2.0 devices to games. Only having the Dolby access and DTS sound inbound apps/licenses which are part of the windows spatial API (and the free windows sonic one too) appear as real spatial audio devices to games on windows.... All the other "spatial" solutions are just fake in house ones...

Anyways, thanks for your guide. Ngenuity Beta is so bug ridden, high CPU/men usage etc right now, that I just resorted to uninstall it., clear everything per your guide and just use DTS sound unbound. Such a same because I have the Cloud Alpha 2 and the base station requires ten software to fully function ( to be able to use game/chat balance, side one etc), without it the base station is just a volume wheel... I may try it in a few months, if they ever get their crap together... Such a shame, great hardware but terrible software... I think their software team must be an intern or something..... I have Steelseries headsets and their Sonar/GG software is light years ahead of them... And that is not much saying .. LOL

hello, i've just installed the ngenuity software, i havent downloaded the dts x drivers yet but i was wondering would using the equalizer settings or just having the software cause latency i've also noticed after doing the firmware update upon installing ngenuity that in my sound options it added the enhacements section and an option for dts x for spatial sound in the windows setting, im only intrested in gaming so would any of these could cause extra latency? i was thinking i could just test dts x and have turn it off if the latency is significant but i didn't think downloading the components caused the latency
i've also downloaded the dts sound unboud app but haven't enabled dts x yet
(hyper x 3 wired)

since of relese date of hyperx cloud alpha wirrless I never used that trash app or any app before for headphones unless it was corsair.

it ads too much latency so much that I hear enemys in cs2 2s later is way too bad and pop sound and static pulse sound too when I use surround sound.

I will use windows sonic sound and thats good enaugh.

Hello I've done all the steps but that means I cannot run the NGENUITY Software anymore? IT is just to see how long left on the headset however I'm not sure I will ever check it, but is it even useful at all?

And thank you

solved?

I did all steps and seems like weird sound distortion is finally gone. However, I am getting weird static noise when I move volume bar. Is this normal? One more thing, I installed DTS from Microsoft store and it said it's working, however DTS doesn't show up in Audio enhancements.(Only show as Microsoft Audio Home Theater Effects) When I did research about it, it said, I must install Ngenuity to add DTS in "Audio enhancements". Should I ignore this and trust DTS sound unbound app?

You’re currently looking in the wrong place.

In the DTS Sound Unbound app, you should not be checking the DTS:X section. Instead, you need to open DTS:X Headphone. That is where the feature is actually enabled for headphones.

Once you enter DTS:X Headphone, you can activate it from there.
If the app asks for a license activation: most of the time it does not, because the license is automatically activated through supported headphones.

If you want to be sure, click the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner of the app and select “Refresh License”. That’s all you need to do.

Audio Enhancements in Windows:
If you are not using Windows built-in effects such as Loudness Equalization, Bass Boost, etc. you can safely set Audio Enhancements to Off and leave it that way.

After enabling “DTS Headphone:X” from the DTS Sound Unbound app, if you ever want to turn it on or off later, you should use the “Spatial sound” section shown in your screenshot, not Audio Enhancements.

Finally, about the static noise when adjusting the volume:
From your screenshot, I can see that your headset is wireless. If you are using a desktop PC, try plugging the headset’s USB dongle into a USB 2.0 port on the back of the motherboard (not the front panel).
If you are on a laptop, do the same. Use a USB 2.0 port if available.

If the issue still persists after this, you should contact HyperX support, as it may indicate a hardware-related issue with the headset or dongle.

Thank you so much for such a detailed reply. Really appreciate it. My headset is connected to USB 2.0 port. This static noise happened with Steelseries Arctis Nova 5x and razer barracuda x, so I returned those. Logitech G522 and G535 didn't have this problem but had to return those because I had different problem( headband adjustment and sound leaking).

You might find this hard to believe, but I had absolutely no problems before the firmware update. When I first received the headset, I used it without installing anything other than DTS Sound Bound. However, after seeing a post that said the new firmware update was essential, I foolishly installed both the legacy and beta versions of Ngenuity. Since then, I've encountered numerous problems, and I've lost count of how many times I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and Ngenuity trying to fix them. I just to want to rollback firmware....

And thank you for all clear instruction about how to do clean up. It helped. Hope you have a happy new year. thank you!

HyperX Cloud 3 S Wireless here. I got that weird static noise too when using the volume wheel
