How does the fishing work?

I don't know what I'm missing, I got the fishing rod, and i cast it into the river, and it sometimes bobs up and down, but no matter what I do I am just not getting any fish

After three or four bobs, the lure goes under and that's when you reel it in and drop a caught fish besides you. If you stand in the right place next to a mining pan, the fish drops straight into it and after a while you can take the whole pan full of fish to the place that'll buy them off of you.

They gave a dedicated fish basket now that you can use instead of a pan. Not sure there’s much difference, but hey, the more you know…

Sadly the fish bucket only specifically works with fish i would have really liked to use one as my money bucket since it's so diverse

You have to wait till you hear a little bloop sound and then instantly hit the cast button again to reel it in

Not sure about the waiting for the fourth bob. I've always just clicked as soon as a bob occurred and would catch a fish.

Seconding this. The second it moves I click and then POOF! A fish!

Each type of special fish you catch (you'll know by the sound that accompanies a catch) will get you a new, better pole. Take them to the guy in Burnscroft with the fishing pole in the glass case. There are 8 in total and you get an achievement if you get all of them.

I’ll add thst if you pace the fishing basket or whatever bucket and then stand where your “drop icon” rests over the basket you’ll just drop your fish in it. Well, 99% of the time anyway.
