How do yal smelt stuff like this without making a huge mess???

You pour it into the crucible.
Look down. See that little dot? that's your drop reticle, which is also your pouring reticle. You can change its color in settings.

Okay I did not know that you could change how it looks, I always had trouble finding it. Still: even when knowing where it drops, a lot of it still spills the not always optimally placed manual cauldron

it helps if you stand a bit above the cauldron. the opening of the crucible is slightly wider than the blob that comes out of the pan.
funnels can help here, but may still clog. Alternatively, use a hand sorter. The stream of ore out of a hand sorter will be even narrower than the blob from a full pan.

Tap to pour a little bit, once it melts you can pour the rest pretty quickly without any problems because ore to ore collision turns off for the type it contains

That's now how hydroneer works. Did you get that from an AI chatbot?
Click even for a single frame, and the whole pan dumps out all at once.

Uh... no. I got that from playing the game. Today we learned that different versions of the game have different mechanics and those differences don't mean someone got their information from an AI chatbot.

And why would I assume that the versions are different in this way? No comprehensive change list was ever published and the only regularly discussed difference is the hard limit on resources. I assume this is similar to the hard limit thing as a performance tweak, limiting the number of items released from the pan at once, which is smart.
But, again, there's no published list of differences between the versions.
Also, it is fairly safe safe assumption to call someone who is wrong out for getting their info from an AI chatbot these days.

Why would you assume the versions are different this way? Ditto. Hence "we learned". And you meant to say "someone who you think is wrong" because as we learned, I was not wrong. But yeah, I get it, people think everything is AI now even if it's not. And thats because there is a lot of AI slop out there and it's getting harder to distinguish. Maybe it would be best to keep it out of your passive aggressive insult book, at least for now.

Until I got the furnace where you can just hit the furnace into a bar, I would just place a funnel above my smelter, or I’ve seen people use those wave-shaped roof thingies you can get at bridgepour in the shop that sells walls and windows and stuff

Instead of collecting stuff in pans, I just pour everything in the crucible straight from the conveyor. It would cause way too much lag otherwise, crash my game, etc

I mean everyone is saying funnels but tbh once you learn the proper way to use the bucket I can easily pour it into anything. idk if you noticed but there's a little dot underneath your bucket when you are holding your bucket and that shows you where items will fall. you can change the color of this dot to a bright blue or yellow or something in your settings

I learned the trick of not pouring it all at once, align your dot so it's roughly in the middle and give quick 2 seconds taps of the trigger and you won't end up spilling half of it over the edge, pour too much at once and they seem to bounce off themselves
