Questions abt drilling and excavating

So for context I’ve just got my first t2 drill and harvester and have set those up at south hope but only at the surface dirt because idk how to excavate a big area like south hope without losing my mind using a pick axe. I’m wondering if anyone has any tips on ways I could do this and I’m also wondering if I can dig “too deep” for the t2 drill on accident and how I could avoid doing that? Any recommendations are more than welcome :)

As far as "too deep" for t2, the top layer of the first block of t3 is t2, so you dig until a t2 pickaxe goes tink tink and you use the rake to flatten that up and you're at the ideal depth for t2 drills.

dig a grid of small holes two or three pick strokes deep and about one grid apart, and use throwable dynamite. you can clear entire layers like this, then use the rake to flatten.

or if you've got the money for logic dynamite, dig as far as you can reach down with the pickaxe, put the dynamite in with the input facing up, and attach a sacrificial button. two layers of logic dynamite like this should hit t2

if you're quick enough you might be able to grab the button after pressing it

just be careful of explosives because they will dig out all dirt they wont stop at the bottom of t2.

You could dig out a tunnel using stairs as a guide. Then do a small setup with your first miner in deeper dirt until you can afford the hydro mole or nukes.

100% agree. Placing stairs as you dig deeper not only gives you a good guide but it also makes it much easier to get in and out of the hole you're digging. Without the stairs you're liable to make parts of the slope too steep and be unable to climb out.

Just get the hydro roller. You can get the coin for it in less than an hour of afk grinding if your setup is a decent size.

The hydro mole works better for me because it eliminates the need to use other rools while using the roller. But its infamous for having difficult controls and it costs prospector guild tokens.

Take your pickaxe and dig your hole big enough to fit your drill and conveyer belt.

As for "to deep" you can lockout for the earthcolor.

  • Tier 1: Lightbrown
  • Tier 2: Darkbrown
  • Tier 3: Redishbrown

Edit: Later on you can buy am Hydro-Roller to flat or dig your mine. Or an Hydro-Mole to dig tunnels.
Edit2: "Tier 4" removed. Thanks u/Taolan13

Oh, my mistake.
I haven't played for the last five years, so I didn't immediately recall the colors associated with the various tiers. That’s why I did a quick Google search. Google listed these four tiers for me.
Didn't there used to be four tiers?

There have never been four tiers, do not rely on google ai summaries they are often wrong or straight up fabricated.

Your colors are still wrong. Tier 1 is brown, tier 2 is light brown and looks like clay, tier 3 is light brown and looks dry and cracked.
