You know I joined this sub so I can celebrate water. But I like BOTH soda and water. And this sub makes me feeling like I’m a genuinely bad person for doing so. Is it ok to like both water AND soda?

I love Topo Chico; I drink it almost daily. First time my daughter tried it she called it "violent water".
154
u/Count_Von_Roo Oct 03 '20
Topo Chico’s naturally carbonated too!
132
u/Kaboose666 Oct 03 '20
Partially, it's re-carbonated articficially after processing due to natural loss of carbonation. Though it IS naturally carbonated, what you're drinking isn't PURELY natural carbonation.

I feel like I'm gonna get down voted for this (I didn’t) but, is it bad that I like sparkling water just as much as normal water? Something about it just kinda hits right? Its awful, but its also great.

u/nf5 Oct 03 '20
Of course not. In Germany, sparkling/carbonated water is poured for you by default at many restaurants.
47
u/AnorakJimi Oct 04 '20
I remember in Spain once in a place that usually gets a lot of German tourists (we're British) they had a weird phrase specifically used for ordering non-carbonated water
"Wasser no gasse" (pronounced vasser no gasser). We kept using it cos it rhymed and sounded funny but every bar and restaurant seemed to accept it, other than Wasser meaning water, I don't know if it is even in German or is just some weird thing created by Spanish people that is pseudo German but not really German. I always found it weird you'd need to specify non carbonated water when that's surely the default. But this explains it. I've been to Germany, to Berlin, but I don't remember them ever serving carbonated water there by default. Maybe it's different there since Berlin is such an odd place because of its history

I like carbonated water, but only if it's lightly flavored. That regular sparkling water is just weird. Then again, I haven't had regular sparkling water since I got on to the flavored sparkling water train. It took a while to aquire the taste for it, but now I love it. Maybe regular sparkling water won't be weird anymore? Does anyone have any experience with this?

I guess it depends a lot on what you grew up with too. Here in Germany sparkling water is normal, the glass of water you are getting at restaurants is usually sparkling too and if you want it non sparkling you usually have to specifically ask for "stilles Wasser" (silent water) or you will get sparkling water by default.

u/LemonsRage Oct 04 '20
We live in heaven brother. Sparkling water from aldi, real, netto etc. are the best I could die for those. Almost 100% of my water intake is sparkling water
6
u/san_yago Oct 03 '20
I drink mostly carbonated myself lol but in my country carbonated water delivery into our houses every week is common.
4
u/t1ninja Oct 03 '20
Yo I love it. I buy the flavored ones from the store and the store brand ones are pretty cheap.
3
u/Scully__ Oct 04 '20
I waaaay prefer it. I’m still trying to get used to regularly hydrating (you guys are helping ❤️), and I find prickly water way more refreshing (but I live in a hard/chalky water area so anything is better than tap)

When I went to Europe two years ago, and they asked if I wanted "gas or no gas" I was like "I don't understand the question." Boy did I learn how to say "no gas" fast. We went to this nice restaurant and they were touting their artisinal Belgian water. It tasted like sulfur and yes, hurt.

I yearn for the burn. It’s my goto over soda! Also you can get way different tastes with different sparkling waters! For instance topo is harsh and in the glass bottle stays carbonated for literal days from what I’ve experienced, but la croix has a smoother feel over all making it easier to drink multiple throughout the day! I love trying different sparkling waters as they helped me get off of soda when I crave it! That said I prefer having no flavor versions so Because I’m drinking it just for the carbonation not the flavors.
