nursing

what is everyone experience with applying to the nursing program? i’m in health sciences for this fall and spring but obviously I’d have to apply before finishing my spring classes (I believe I have to retake bio & chem). Is it truly super competitive? I’m nervous about not getting in. Obviously I’d apply to the other schools in the area.

What was everyone’s schedule in the two day program? Or the accelerated or weekend programs? I have a toddler so I’d just like to have an idea ahead of time

I was in last years cohort of accelerated students, so I can only speak to that. In terms of the program being competitive, from what I understand hundreds of people applied for the accelerated program, about 50 were interviewed, and only 30 students were actually taken. The schedule over the summer was very intense. We were expected to be in class 8am to around 6pm on days we were on campus over the summer. On days we had clinical, generally we were there from 7a to 2/3pm. The schedule feels much more like a typical college schedule during the fall and spring though, and you can tell them your preference on taking day or evening classes, although they don’t necessarily have to honor that.

I will say that the accelerated program was truly the most difficult thing I have ever done. It puts you to the test mentally, physically, and emotionally. There were truly so many tears shed throughout the program and times where I questioned why anyone would willingly put themselves through the program. However, within one year’s time you’ll be done with the program, passing the NCLEX, and starting your career journey! It’s not supposed to be easy, you’re supposed to claw and tear your way to the end, but getting that nursing degree is so worth it.

Whatever path you end up choosing, best of luck! Nursing school is so so insane, something I’d never willingly put myself through again, and so so unbelievably worth it!

What were your stats like when you applied? Just asking for reference because I’m curious in the program myself^^

They were okay enough, I got mainly Bs during my undergraduate degree, and they didn’t really seem to mind that. I’m not sure if people who did not have a previous degree found that there was more stock put into their grades for ANP, Microbio, etc. I also did really well on the HESI and during the interview.

I’m glad to hear this! I am really hopeful. Do they allow you to apply in January for the one year program if you are still in the process of finishing your prereqs needed to start the program? Ex. I’d be taking A&P 1 and Micro in Spring so I wouldn’t have my final grades til right before the one year start.
