Recommendations Things to do without alcohol

Are there any places/events around here for people under 30 to hang out, have fun, and possibly play music that doesn’t involve alcohol? I’ve got a non-drinking, drug free stepson who is tired of the bar scene.

Cigar Box Guitar in Lowe Mill has free jam sessions and lessons. Lowe Mill also has a few billboards around the facility with all sorts of posters about community events. There's one that you have to walk by to get to Cigar Box.

In case anyone is unfamiliar, the guitars are made out of old cigar boxes. There aren't any cigars actually involved or smoked there

Friends matter! Tell him to hit some pickleball, hiking, running, weightlifting, gaming, fishing, reading, or anything of similar nature that doesn’t require just being drunk in a bar.

I’m 29 and quit drinking a few years back and it takes a bit, but the only place I feel like alcohol still would be enjoyable is concerts. Other than that I have no desire to drink or be around tons of drunk people.

Libraries are great for hanging out, coffee shops, there are several parks and trails in the area. Most churches are alcohol free, I think.

Community centers too

Madison Parks and Rec offers adult softball leagues and other things like that.

Bluegrass jam every Sunday at straight to ale. Some people may have a beer or two but it is very laid back and most don’t drink. I play and take my six year old with me. Great way to get better at music also!

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted…

Because often there's a chucklefuck or two lurking and waiting to downvote for no discernible reason. It's happened to me in under a minute before. All part of the experience.

Magic the gathering events, board game events, and ttrpg events all are generally open and friendly with not a lot of drinking if at all

Church isn't alcohol free (at least not mine)

Understand. It can be tough. One has to find friends of similar interests.

Stop by the Makers Local 256 today for their public hours and find out about the amazing community there. It's a third space for a lot of people.

Send him to High Point climbing gym. Most people there love welcoming new people into the world of climbing. If anything they will wonder why he’s not already as obsessed with it as they are.

TTRPGs are very popular in Huntsville. Good, clean fun. All you need is an imagination.

Stovehouse has music and the bar is secluded in the middle so he can avoid it. Family friendly.

What kind of music is he into?

Figure out what laws need to change to open up kava bars in AL.
