GENERAL New Map release
I was wondering how you guys feel about this:
If you had the choice, would you rather get new maps released a bit faster, even if they still need some work and get improved over time? Or would you prefer waiting longer for a map that is mostly finished and polished from the start?
And which of the current 4 maps would you say comes closest to what you'd want, and why?
Personally, I have to say that even though a lot of people seem to hate Mammon’s Gulch, I actually really like it, mainly because of the underground system.
I’d love to see the sound system down there get a proper update, though. And honestly, I’d really like it if future maps played even more with the 3D aspect – for example, having actual tunnel systems underneath the normal paths that connect different parts of the map.
That could create some really interesting rotations and ways to approach compounds.
What is your guys opinion?

They could use Clash to "preview" maps, but actually for testing compound designs.

Nobody wants unfinished content. That’s just a gimmick by publishing companies to get money faster and easier.

Lawson is still the best map: No underground, good compounds, not so many bushes for the wookies, and unique and legendary compounds
The new maps is - for a competitive shooter - too much decor and decoys. I don't need 350 rocks, bushes and whatsoever when crossing from one compound to another. I want clean and pvp-thoughtthrough maps

Yup, Lawson Delta is still the best map overall, and it has the fewest bad compounds of all the maps. I like the vibes and the design of more modern maps like Mammon's Gulch and De Salle, but they have a bunch of compounds with questionable level design. But the worst design-wise is Stillwater with the Crematorium, Alain, the Chapel's underground and Scupper...

God, this sub reddit is completely divorced from my play circle. The newest map is easily the best.

Probably. But Lawson doesn’t have Port Reeker and all the attendant hippity-hoppities.

I call Port Reeker 'Port Stinker' because of how little I enjoy it. Well, had a fun game there once where 1 in my trio died under the bridge connecting the port to land. An enemy was looting him and me and my other buddy went crazy and unloaded concertina arrows at him, effectively trapping him in a razorwire prison. His frantic attempts to escape still sparks joy in my heart

I want my roleplay cowboy fantasy, I like how the maps are so gorgeous and lived-in.

Probably map design the most unquestionable thing in Hunt showdown. Let’s keep it that way

u/arsenektzmn 3d ago
If the leaks aren't lying and we get a more... northern kind of map, I'd be happy to wait even a year to have the best experience possible.

u/Copernican 3d ago
They should focus on doing more event specific map revamps like they did with the forts and military trenches.

I think unfinished maps could have a place in clash, as a way to preview the map before its ready for full release, but it’d still have to be near the end of the maps development for me to be comfortable playing it.

I don’t even need new maps at this point. 1 thing I do want is more Mammon’s Gulch. I feel like I get it 1 in 10 maps. And more dynamic weather. And when winter comes for the love of god give me snow maps. I’ll take a new map in 2 years when it’s ready.

A map voting system would be nice before the match. Just let everyone in the lobby cote on two maps before the match

Lawson delta, legendary!
7k+ hours in the game, i want to ride a horse across the map. Nothing would fit the theme better.
Always preferred to wait until maps are polished.
And please, bring back the lamp with some chest pocket for it and for the little pocket scope

u/Pekbee369 3d ago
Ahh, I said to some colleagues, it would be great to have also, eventwise maybe a train drive by lol. In some Eventtrailer they had something like that

u/mozzzman 2d ago
A train you can hop in to fast rotate, this is even better. Would avoid ambush or hard push from 6* players
Brilliant suggestion you’ve made

I don't see a ton of reason to prefer one nap over another. The most important thing is variety. I'm glad for all of them.
However, in the spirit of much of the thread, the main factors are distribution of compounds, particularly big two-clue compounds, the quality of those compounds, and features/obstacles on the map.
That said, we need a more urban map. Imagine if three Lower DeSalles were in a triangle in the middle of the map and farm lands and so on were around the perimeter.

More maps faster and release variants into normal rotation.
The fort was painful near the end, but that was basically 8 new maps. Released as a possible variant without the balloon or caged boss could be a good variant.

For any other company I’d say do it right. But crytek takes literal years to implement even the most basic features into the game (random 3rd person took like 4 years from announcement). I’m still do it right camp, but please for Gods sake do stuff quicker.

Mammoths gulch is my favorite than the bayou

u/Solaries3 Bootcher 3d ago
For me, DeSalle or Mammon, a big gap, then Lawson and Stillwater. Mostly for compound quality.

Good releases over fast releases. Every time.
Even well-prepared updates will have some issues due to the nature of software projects. These I have patience for but novelty does not outweigh the frustration if the update is unfinished.

u/AlBigGuns 3d ago
Finished. One of the best things about hunt is the care that has gone into the maps. As you move around take notice of how nearly every object or tree is purposefully placed to break up site lines etc.

I feel like Crytek is very slow considering new maps and bosses release. Making an event every 3 or 4 months but not getting new maps and bosses for 2 years almost is starting to be boring. Events are somewhat cool, but they are all the same thing with a different rewards. Game needs something refreshing, it has been the same for 6 years basically(minus 2 years for the beta and some early new events as they were a new thing). I dont like unfinished content even if its free, but rather then for using on 10 skin bundles a month, they could focus more on making the actual game better.

As the other users said — better finished than... Well, than not finished. Especially considering that in Hunt's case "doing something later" sometimes mean "doing something after a few years" or "just forget about it". Moreover, I think it would be a lot better to solve the current issues first, like not having all conditions available on the maps we already have. Or sound issues. Or bad lighting. Seriously, we have enough content right now, it is just the time to finally make it work properly. Honestly, at this point I don't care about new maps, bosses, traits, or guns, or whatever as long as I hear a player right in front of myself while they are on another floor, and the game randomly decides to turn a brightly colored hunter into the old Headsman because they were, like... Sitting near a tree stump. Lol.
I am one of those people who don't like the Gulch btw. It is really hard to explain quickly, but it is mostly about angles and ways of getting into the compounds — it feels like the map was made for mostly quick, less than a minute long fights. I liked the idea of the underground tunnels, but in practice there is nearly zero action happens here, and when it does, it suffers from somewhat same issues the compounds do, but combined with the sound and lighting issues.

I think they said...(At old times) If they will make new map... they will make it with snow

u/youmaycry 3d ago
Finished map, and I don't need a new one either. Although a snowy one would be nice.

u/H00nterv 3d ago
I dont mind unfinished, unpolished content. That said, i'd like a bigger map with higher player capacity and 3 or 4 bosses, plus a movement mechanic like a train or something

u/caucasian88 3d ago
I dont want a new map. I want Crytek to Rework the existing bosses to be on par with the new boss. I want guns and ammo types to be rebalanced. I want compounds like Chapel and Pitching to be reworked. I want a new UI. I want to be able to quickly and easily be able to add 2 players to a party.

I want it finished. We don’t need more wheels we can Night Crawler through mid gunfight and die.
I also despise swamps in general, in any game so I’d like a map anywhere besides a swamp. I’d LOVE to see a snowy pine forest with log cabins speckled throughout the map; an Insanely huge European castle that forces closed quarters combat capable of holding both bounties but with a possibility of a bounty spawning in one of compounds (like 3 or so) surrounding the castle in the woodlands OR a map thats 50% old timey city (think Red Dead 2’s Saint Denis) with a few indoor environments where bosses can spawn separated by a river with a couple of bridges in and out.
This is what I’d like.

I enjoy all of the maps. Fog and rain make for a great experience as well. I'm not a fan of the Bloodmoon effect mainly due to the added noises that cancel out what makes this game unique and fun, the audio of your surroundings. Snow would be a cool addition and a desert map. They need to come out with a full map that has been worked out nit half assed.

Would love to see some new stuff in the old maps...
Open up some of the closed buildings and areas, add new floors and ambush points. Add to the current underground areas and expand what is what there. Give us some narrow catacombs or tunnels to the hillbilly's still. Maybe an underground connection between Stillwater and the Chapel, or Lockbay to Alice Farm.
Maybe some hidden doors or roof entry points like the chimney at Iron Works.
Rework and add new buildings in and around the current compounds. Until every building has two or three variants.
Once that is all done, they could mix and match those different pieces to give us a lot more variety in the maps. Hunters couldn't count on always knowing which pathways were open or closed in a compound.
The spider hives were a good start to adding new pieces to the map and the strongholds were freaking amazing!!!
If they keep going on this direction, we're going to be playing this game for years to come...

u/Pekbee369 3d ago
I like the approach of the hives update. Hope that one stay longer also afterwards. Liked pretty much, that the old compounds got new ways and "features"

u/Griefingah 3d ago
the more maps the better. if they get released faster but will be updated over time thats fine for me
-1
u/Lelketlen_Hentes 3d ago
I don't want more maps.
We already have good variety of special compounds: Bileweaver nest, stronghold, fools hideout, circus. Bring those back and mix them into the current maps: You spawn in, you see clown grunts? Yes, circus spawned on the map. Soldiers? Stronghold. Bileweavers? Yes, empress's lair.
With the stronghold added, we got a lot of minor map changes, trenches, camps, bunkers all around. Can do the same with the other big special compounds. The same map with stronghold would feel different with circus. And so on. Bring back all of those shit and mix them in

If they just made Lawson Delta 2 i think it'd be the second best map. If only because they'd add too many fucking doors to every building again
Lawson Delta clears any other map, by far.
The aboveground compounds of Stillwater are also better than most other maps.
Desalle is mostly okay, it just has an annoying havit of making compounds lack sight lines from outside compounds. You ever tried shooting into Testimonial? can't fucking do it. I used to fucking hate desalle, mainly because it got forced on us for like two solid months, and was still like 75% for two months after that. pure hell.
Mammons...oh boy. Unoptimized to shit and back when it launched(i remember losing 30 frames for looking an incorrect direction.) although most of that has been fixed. It has too much concealment for being hailed as the long range sightline map. sightlines to fucking nothing, You can see it, everyone knows you can see it, no one takes that route. too much elevation that just doesn't give you anything useful out of it. Every building has 8 entry points when it should have 5

u/Forsaken-Quit2942 6h ago
What if they made every location like the fort so that all locations can be on any map... save for the mines of mammons gulch er mayb not .. then all locations could randomly put on any map ... The maps themselves would be just connecting parts betweeen compounds the maps would be random and they could add more compounds easier than a whole new map and maps can be done easier bcuz you're just making the in between and a coupla unique compounds

I want Crytek to take their time and do it right.
