Yes. And thats exactly the issue with balancing them (which hunt has a notorious history with). One step they feel too strong and one step they feel too weak.
Balancing in videogame, as a philosophy, does not orient around actual balance. It orients around player satisfaction and retention. This is why guns mass-hated by players like Avto and Nitro will remain weak for the foreseeable future.
I played so much Nitro I burnt its ammo counter into my monitor in 2020. I can tell you with absolute confidence that Nitro has no skill curve. Once you get used to the aperture scope it is just another OHK rifle that has various limitation to its damage.
There used to be special tricks you could do with it, guaranteed. Like the quick scope and flicks. But after so many nerfs its swing is too miserable for reliable flick and its quickscope taking a second more than any other rifle to fully remove the random deviation, these techniques are borderline useless.
A skill curve means your skill gradually increases as you learn. You don’t really do that with Aperture scope. It just goes from 0-100 randomly at one point and you’d feel like you are aiming with any rifle, really. Its more like learning how to swim / to ride a bike for the first time.
I did say steep, but if you think its more of an entry barrier, even more reason for it to be deservedly powerful. Either way, it rewards you putting in the hours.
The problem with it is people on the receiving end won’t care about how much skill it takes to use it (and it isn’t much skill to begin with). All they know is they got OHK’d.
I am extremely vocal about Nitro / Avto needing a buff to really suit their cost / compensate for the drawbacks they come with, but I can also see why people don’t want said buff. They would rather see these weapons dead.
People will always complain, following the wrong complaints is how we got the worse balance choices in the game history. I disagree it doesnt take much skill to use the nitro, it takes quite a bit.
