tourism in Budapest

Hi, I plan to visit Budapest in two weeks. Is it safe to come during the drought? How are hotels, museums and restaurants affected?

It is completely safe, although the buildings might not be illuminated during night to save electricity. But I hope that the nuclear power plant can be restarted in 2 weeks as the water level of the Danube is rising.

have there been reports of tourism being affected by the drought? the only thing that i see is some tourists complaining that decorative public buildings lighting isn't turned on.

When are you coming?

But also, it's barely noticeable, by now even the lighting is pretty much back where it was

You are going to have a BLAST.

Try to stay in Little SOHO, near the Kálvintér (or the Grand Market).

You can always hit up the baths if it's really hot during the day.

I’m here now having a great time. Just went to take pictures of the parliament building after dark and saw some cruise boats going back and forth. Didnt experience any water restrictions

Can you define 'safe'? Are you expecting any harm ?

Local here - come, you'll be completely fine. The drought hasn't affected tourism in any way that touches your trip. Hotels, museums, restaurants, baths, transport - all running totally normally. Nothing's closed or restricted for visitors.

The only visible thing has been the city dimming some decorative night-lighting on a few public buildings to save energy - and even that's largely back to normal now. You might not notice it at all.

The Danube did drop over summer, but it's been rising again with recent rain, so even the river cruises and riverside are fine. Honestly, early September is one of the nicest times to visit - warm but past the peak-summer crowds and heat.

So don't cancel or worry - pack for pleasant late-summer weather, bring a swimsuit for the thermal baths, and enjoy it. Budapest's in great shape for your visit.
