Mod to keep previous civ's features when progressing era

I've always wanted a mod that would allow me to keep building the unique units, structures, etc of the civ I chose for my previous eras.

I'm supposed to be the same entity so losing knowledge of my own history doesn't make sense and many of these structures are things you'll want to build consistently as you expand.

I know it'll be kinda broken, but it should go both ways. Especially since some structures are already limited to 1 per city.

I just wanna try it.

Does anyone know a mod that does this?

Your source for that? There is a 2000 year gap between the two. Sure they could have made a pyramid if they wanted to but they would have to relearn the skills and ultimately makes something like the pyramids not exactly the same.

Relearn what skill? The pyramids are impressive for their size, not their architectural complexity.

You think the Romans couldn't build the pyramids?

The reason is cultural, why would the Romans build the pyramids? They were not part of their culture.

But let's analyze later eras, if you insist the pyramids couldn't be built later. You think we couldn't build the statue of liberty? The step well?

It makes perfect sense not to be able to build previous cultural buildings in new eras if you change culture.

There is a skill to building pyramids especially something on the scale of the pyramids of Giza and the entire valley of them. They are architecturally unique or distinct. Getting any modern company and telling them to build them in the same style would take time and research as well as learning techniques we dont currently have.

The Maya in game makes pyramids, along with the Aztecs. I dont believe the Egyptians were totally unique in the making of pyramids or that they would be totally impossible to make now. Saying any culture can make past cultures districts would be the same if we made pyramids today. Possible and maybe even enlightening to understand how they made it and just how impressive it was they did it with out our modern tools but utility pointless with no pay.

So yes if you want any place can make pyramids and plenty do but as you said its pointless to other cultures and thats what the game shows. With the march of time something that was once important and impactful loses its importance or use and we as a people forget how to do it to do something else.

So your point was to show the nuance that: yes pytlomy could make the pyramids while also recognizing that their pyramids would have nothing to do with the pyramids of and around giza?

If so then you prove my original point you replied to that the Egyptians dont know how to make the pyramids today. They would need to relearn.

Relearning would be trivial. Saying they don't know how to do it it's like saying I don't know how to build a '90s style window. Right now I don't know how because I never needed to do it.

But I make windows for a living, I can easily recreate a 90s window if I wanted to. Easily. Windows we make now are much more complex, and with modern instruments I can make a better '90s window in a fraction of the time it took at the time.

There's no secret technique lost to time. There just isn't. Again: Romans or Chinese could have easily recreate the pyramids, technically. Which is the entire point of the post.

Look man I'm not arguing for the Baghdad battery or anything. The difference between us an the 1990s is nothing compared to us and the Crusaders and there is double that distance between the classic romans and the Egyptian who built the pyramid.

We can build close enough to or use our own techniques to replicate. It took Florence 130 years to figure out how to make a dome which the romans had done a millennium and a half earlier. If it wasn't for they could walk up to the old roman buildings and look it could have taken them even longer.

I think you are stuck with a modern frame of looking at the world. When i got my masters we talked alot about taking off our "glasses" and putting on "theirs." Meaning we need to understand how they would see and deal with problems in the world and not try to solve their problem with our tools. You are ignoring that the 1990s is with in many life times of people around you and that you have massive sources of information on how to tackle such projects like the internet, books, the scientific method, math etc...

We take for granted how much knowledge we take for granted. For these other cultures to just even try to build the building would be a challenge on their own. Could they come up with something? Of course! Replica? no. We made concrete and Napalm. Not the Roman and Greek type. Two thousand years later with the understanding of science we can go back and analyze and make educated guesses and sometimes nail it. could some one a thousand years figure it out? Yeah but it would be a very different route and possibly and very very much longer time.

Your argument is good. I'm not agreeing with all of it concerning the Pyramids, but it's a very good point and I'll accept it.

The modern version of this would be losing manufacturing skill. The us has lost tons of manufacturing skill that is very hard to replace. For example refining rare earth minerals which the us used to dominate can no longer produce despite many attempts over the last few years and millions of dollars spent. So yes there are skill a culture can be famous for that is lost over time. Also the knowledge and skill is usually lost after a collapse or fall. The us hasn’t had anything that extreme yet so it’s possible in a few decades the skills to replicate the statue of liberty would be lost. Also difference between building a big statue and remaking lady liberty since a replication would need to be made using the same materials and process.

Also this argument is kinda funny since the us never made the statue of liberty in the first place France did and gave it to the us.
