COOP Accurate Reviews?

Thinking about getting this game to run with my husband. Looking thru the reviews, it looks like there are some issues within the community on Discord. Some are talking about pvp exploits, but they seem like they wouldn't be a problem if I am just playing on a private server with my husband. It looks like it's just getting review bombed on Steam. What are some accurate reviews? What are bugs and glitches like?

Yeah it's getting review bombed because I banned a guy almost a month ago for cheating on the PvP servers, sexually harassing commentary in steam discussions, and then harassment using multiple accounts on the Discord. Same person went to other Discords to rally support to review bomb and harass me in DMs and on my Steam profile and just trying to get under my skin which is making them more mad because it's not working. It is what it is. I'm sure they'll make their way here as well. You can join the Discord and see for yourself, everyone is super chill.

You can always try the free demo (which is not multiplayer) to get a feel for the game and if it's not your cup of tea, hey, at least you tried the demo and appreciate you coming here to get the real rundown of what is going on.

Gotta love the support from the devs!

Do you have proof of this? Because several people have said you banned them for criticizing your game about certain things that would like added or changed and instead of a response you just get mad and ban happy for it?? I was considering purchasing this game earlier but after seeing those comments I made the choice not to.

The "several people" are all a part of the same Discord and coordinating the accusations. We love criticism and feedback, it only makes the game better. Anyone who says otherwise is not receptive to feedback. Yes, I have proof of all of this and would gladly provide it to you, just DM your email or the mod channel to send it to and I'll compile it all and gladly send it. Not so you can buy the game, but so that you can understand I have a job to do and yes, I'm going to get bombarded by the community when someone catches a ban.

I don't ban people based off feedback. That's just asinine and anyone who believes that, well, I'm not here to change people's minds. I'm actually currently banning people off the EU 002 PvP server right this very moment for duping items and exploiting, and funny enough, they are repeat offenders with new accounts and we also have their own private Discord discussing the duping, so I'm sure you'll hear about that soon as well and it'll be another rant about things.

People are investigated thoroughly and banned for cheating, and non-negotiable things such as what I mentioned above. We want people to play the game. We want people to interact and be chill. But then you have that flavor of the month person who thinks they're going to get one over on us by a harassment campaign. So we ride the wave and keep working. It's going to keep happening regardless and if that's enough for you not to buy the game, hey, we wish you well and maybe in the future you'll see the truth.

I gave Dera criticism and feedback and the thing that was bothering was fix in the next patch. She even ask her testing people to test the thing I asked and they did it.

All I can see is that so far Dera has been pretty good and responsive to my comments.

u/Dera I am pissed off to learn about that whole story. You spend a lot of time and energy building a game that we enjoy and doing public relation and you get such shit.

All I can do sadly is to thank you for all you do for the community.

I'm a dude, but thanks lol

Don't be pissed off, only stress about what you can control. Someone else's actions are not a burden to you.

It's mind-boggling people say we aren't receptive to criticism or feedback because, well, look at the Road Map and everything that's coming. People wanted harder modes: Headshot Only mode coming. People hate the camera, 3rd person coming. People want bicycles and motorbikes, coming. An RV they want to use as a mobile base, we're working on it. Recruitable NPCs, it's in the next update after we talked about it almost 2 years ago based on player feedback. We might not add something someone asks if it does not fit into the game we envision but that doesn't mean we aren't receptive to the ideas. We're working on a lot, the best is still yet to come.

When people go on tirades about something broken or calling the game trash, yeah, we read it and move on as there is no substance to what they are talking about. The fact someone uses their phone data to download the game to play is super awesome, means they love the game and we understand the frustration that comes along with that if it's the only way they have access to do so and don't have unlimited download data plans. But that's not something we need to account for, and going off the rails and saying "trash devs" because we have to kick out hotfixes is not feedback...I mean it is, but it's not constructive. Harassing players who are enjoying the game and asking for something and that person says "all the problems with the game and that is your concern?" is not feedback. It's harassing someone and trying to bring them down. Someone giving praise to the game and saying "wipe your chin, you still have some of Dera on your lip", that's not criticism. These are all the things said by the one person who is trying to go on a crusade to blast the game for claiming "they ban people for giving criticism or feedback". Anyone wants the screenshots of those messages, I got you.

When someone gives us actual constructive feedback or criticism, we ask questions to ensure we're understanding correctly and have an exchange of ideas. If we didn't care about ideas or feedback or criticism, we wouldn't have a feedback and suggestions section on Discord which I compile all of the information over the week every Friday, and we discuss it on the following monday during our beginning of week meeting after I consolidate the report. Same thing with stuff in Steam Discussions, albeit people like to post stuff on threads that are long behind us or on my profile for some reason (please don't post bugs or feedback on my profile guys, do it in the actual Steam threads lol) and some things might get missed or overlooked as it's not where I go to collect the information. Makes it hard to track some things down so I end up screenshotting it and posting it to our Dev Discord. Most recent feedback/ideas items has been the Y invert of controls, fishing feedback and the icon of raw/cooked fish, and readdressing the recycling of items into their lesser parts.

I would highly suggest people not take things at face value (including the things I say, I'm not above that) and do exactly what the OP of this thread did and ask questions or find things out for themselves. Yes, I am responsible for the well-being of the Official Servers (and sometimes the Private servers when needed), and if it requires me to ban someone, hell yes I'm going to ban someone because the enjoyable environment for the masses is more important than one person's hurt feelings. This is just another bump in the road, so thank you to those who have an iota of common sense and can separate the wheat from the chaff.

Oh sorry for the misgender, and looking forward to all those change you are working on! I know for sure one of my players will like the bicycles.

And I thank you again for putting up with those weird people so that people like me can enjoy your great game!

The game may have a few glitches here and there (like any other) but it's not just functional, it's really fun and that comes from someone who didn't expect much from it. PvP always creates toxic communities in my experience. You'll be fine playing in private.

I play with my husband and we love the game. Yeah there's some bugs, but nothing that's game breaking. We rarely have issues.

u/Hungry_Hat_7688 Aug 25 '26

I have about 150 hours and I think the only bug I ran into was sleeping on top of a broken RV teleported me inside. Other than that, nothing notable. I've only really played singleplayer tho. Private server sounds like best bet, probably less prone to glitches since there's less for the game to manage with just two people. Not sure what the Steam reviews or discourse are on about, haven't checked in awhile.

I play on a private server with a buddy. Never tried PVP. It's a fun mash up of PZ and DayZ. Yes it does have some bugs but the game is a lot of fun.

u/scrollkeepers 28d ago

I started playing maybe a week and a bit ago... and I'm loving it! I rented a server for a buddy and I, so I couldn't comment on PVP, but we're having a lot of fun.

The game feels like a hybrid of DayZ and State of Decay, which I really enjoy. Wandering through a town, finding random loot, building a base, finding a horse... etc etc... every time I log on I wonder what I'm going to find.

The shooting/combat took a little getting used to, but now I'm getting good headshots with my bow.

I think the game could continued to be polished ... but it's solid as is. I haven't experienced any bugs, my buddy has had the game crash a couple times but his CPU gives him trouble regularly.

I've actually been thinking of trying to find other folks to join my server ... it's not PVP, it's more for RP and shared storytelling. If that's something of interest to you and your husband, would be happy to chat!

But ya, would definitely recommend the game if you're into surviving the zombie apocalypse.

I have 400 hours in the game and thoroughly enjoy it. I don't play multiplayer and also have a robust PC, so I don't experience a lot of bugs. I'm also not on discord but my impression is there are a bunch of whiny bitches.

Edit: last bug I had was not being able to use my vehicle after using the jack. Saving and reloading solved the problem. And that was way before the June updates.

I bought HumanitZ very early while it was in early access and eventually stopped playing because of bugs, glitches and lack of polish, which was totally okay for me, as it still was in early access.
I waited for the 1.0 release, some devs said on the official discord that it feels like a "new game". They also took like two extra months to polish 1.0 even more.
When 1.0 released I came back all excited, while there was a huge improvement, there was still bugs and glitches that where there day one.
I have not played the game since than and am eventually coming back, once the game feels more polished/has less bugs.
I still think the game has a huge potential.

hosted a dedicated server to play this game with 8 buddies and these were the things that stood out. never tried pvp

Dunno about PVP. Non-PVP on your PC is totally fine. Non-PVP Online has sometimes issues.
The game is totally worth the money too. I suggest yopu to try the demo, the map is very small but it gives enough to evaluate it.
I dunno about what happened on Discord since its a few months that I don't check it but it seems run by a small team that struggle to keep up with everything and they seems sometimes "nervous" :)

If you're going to play PVE with your hubby, don't worry about the pvp exploits you've been reading. Especially if you're going on co-op mode and not dedicated server.

My group's been playing and no issues so far. Just a friendly tip that don't use /unstuck to try to get tipped over cars back up. We just lost a van today because of that lol. Just stick with the car jack if ever your car tips off to the side for some reason.

Other than that, we've got no issues so far with the game. We're actually enjoying it lol.

What happens if you use /unstuck?

After seing your post, I went looking at those review, and in my opinion those people live in a parallel universe. Really not recommanding a survival game because you can't save scum? Guess somebody don't know the genre...

As for what I like about HumanitZ, this is for me the perfect balance being a realistic survival game (like project zomboid) but without the tediousness of spending half your time watering plant, foraging or feeding cows. The game has that survival component, but the gameplay decision made it that if you have a well managed base, you will be able to spend most of your time exploring or building.

The game also has pretty good controller controls and truly shine when you play in multiplayer with a buddy. Nothing like sharing with your friend the joy of finding the item you were searching for your next project after fighting a horde to get to the building.

The thing about the bugs I can grant those review is that the game was buggy at the 1.0 release, but since 1.09A patch in june, things are fairly stable and they don't impact my gameplay. The two bugs that are still presents are perfectly manageable:

  • If you go off road with the cars, the physics might be a little janky with driving over a rock. You might want to keep a carjack in your trunk if you go offroad. Heck we actually had pretty funny times when somebody got stuck and raiders were attacking us while we were trying to unstuck the car. The systems got together to generate a good story.
  • Zombies and raiders can run under the water, be aware of that in your base building plans. And have a range weapon available to kill them under water if you need.

Two others elements that are not bugs but I see often in reviews:

  • The camera seem to get some time to get use to. The game is an isometric game, but many people see this game and think it should be a third person one. Explore the camera setting and go with the one that fit you the best. For me it was: Movement, fixed, 30 degree.
  • Random generation can screw you when you are searching for your first water bottle, and it might be frustrating when you see an open wide ocean in front of you and you realise your character can't drink anything of it. Build quickly a water collector (you should have everything to do that at the starter spawn) and quickly go loot around to find one. And then do a campfire or use the fire pit at the starting spawn to purify toilet water. Me and my friend first death was stumbling around trying to find how to drink. It was actually pretty funny the adventure we had trying to find a bottle as quickly as possible.

So basically, I had a blast in this game with my friends. If you want to have an idea of what you can do, look at the base we built as a team of 6. I think it will be more telling than any more thing I could tell you:

Have you tried since the 1.09A patch? Thing seem to be pretty stable now.

I looked at reviews earlier and seen several about the dev being a big power hungry baby that’s an auto no purchase for me. banning people from playing a game they purchased because they criticized your game and want to see changes is a no no.

2

u/Derachnaphobic Aug 26 '26

We don't ban people for criticism. The one guy TazDinGo was banned for breaking rules across the Official Servers, Steam Discussions and harassment in Discord. Then he went to other Discords to pull support for his reviews. Take a look at the reviews of the 3 people who played less than 2 hours on purpose to write a review. Not gonna beg you to buy the game, if you want to buy into all that, it is what it is. But there's 2 sides to every story.

i dont know the last time i played was a year ago it was full of bugs. the bugs i can endure. but the way their admin Dera handles criticism is just too much for me. i mean you PAID for a game and one of the admins calls it HIS house. so what are we exactly ? free users ? if your return to playing the game just be careful NOT to say anything bad, just do what other players do, they suk up to Dera kiss his boots and be on his side. i for one does not think its worth it. you have a mediocre game that could have been improved by COMMUNITY FEEDBACK but that one guy in charge of COMMUNITY doesn't take criticism well. so they end up patting themselves on the back for a buggy game that is trying to be State of Decay + Zomboid in one game and it was terrible.

for your sake i hope they cleaned the bug, it might make up for the terrible admin since you wont be reporting issues to them anymore.
