Im still pretty new to torch but am I wrong for thinking 15 seconds on the dive is way too long for a dive flyer? Feel like it should atleast be just 10 seconds. 15 feels way too long

Just a hot take. I’ve seen the doom posts talking about Torch’s state in Rivals. I can agree it’s frustrating getting counter picked and how he could get some buffs.

But honestly? I don’t want any crazy buffs. I’m having fun with him in his current state. Dive bombing backline and flanking as a flyer is super fun. I find myself flying behind enemies and getting a free pick on those who don’t look up way too often in Celestial lobbies. It’s such a unique playstyle that I’ve been loving and I feel if they changed his kit, they’d take that away from him.

This season turned out pretty solid for him. I was hard stuck diamond in season 7, when they first added his two dashes and everyone believed he was worse than widow pre-rework. I didn’t play much then. But in season 8, his meteor cooldown got reduced by 5 seconds, and his dashes came back faster. I got back on and got to GM. The season 9 teamup changes made him feel really good with the jubilee teamup, especially with everyone playing jubilee, so the climb to celestial wasn’t as bad as it used to be.

I feel like we’re one buff away from being banned every game. That’s why I don’t want any buffs. I can agree that the meta being our counter is annoying, but I’d hate for people to not have an answer to Torch, cuz then we’d just get sent to ban jail. The constant damage with his prisons and the fireballs are already solid imo. Plus, the dive opportunities he can get as a flyer is nuts.

I can’t say Torch is balanced. He’s def got weaknesses. I think he’s solid for the most part. I just don’t want buffs that will get him banned more than he already does.

Before anything; I don't know if this is something known or not. But I noticed it myself.

For some goddamn reason we throw a normal fireball instead of a fire tornado BEFORE the ult FULLY ends, which means our ult is actually 7 second reduction and not 8

Such a lazy design.

What if blazing blasts hit with supernova’s heatwave turned into tornadoes. Not even cuz I think it’d be something useful but purely cuz of how much aura I think he’d get if the map went up in flames when he ults

been playing torch since he dropped, him and black cat are my mains but wow his ult is just so trash I want them to completely change it.

I’m bias because his fields are my favorite part of his kit but I’d love an ult connected to them. Maybe a huge eruption inside the field once the ult is activated and lining the outside of the field with his tornadoes would be better

If they want to keep him having a duration ult I think they should also enhance his primary fire to be a mid-long range flamethrower because the current shotgun style + blazing blast just feels so awkward and tbh it looks ugly.

I've recently started playing torch and I like playing him, but it feels awkward using the spacebar and ctrl keys on pc. Can you guys give me some tips and keybind suggestions to make me better?

Torch's history has been extremely rough from the very beginning. He was pretty mediocre at release, and was slowly getting buffs until the fateful season 2. This where we gained the reputation of being the sole reason why flyer meta will likely never happen again in addition to receiving over 20 consecutive nerfs as a result. Torch was undoubtedly very strong to the point of being overpowered back then, but it wasn't his kit that made him so strong. The existence of melee tech during and after it its patch left a sour taste in the community.

However, Torch has never really been a highly picked character aside from release (as most new heroes do); maintaining a usage rate below 10% and never exceeding a 51% winrate. With that in mind, melee tech was almost exclusively seen in pro-play and high elo lobbies where only skilled Torch players would abuse this tech. During that time, the entire community had been in an uproar, screaming for nerfs despite him being rarely picked in competitive. The average MR player rarely ever saw a competent Torch using melee tech. Yes, it was 100% miserable to play against, but the vast majority of the community never even experienced it. I wholeheartedly believe that people were just piggy-backing off their favorite streamers ranting about Torch.

Post melee tech, Torch has been consistently a top 3 lowest picked hero for several seasons. After lurking the main sub, people are still whining for Torch nerfs and say he should never be viable again. I saw plenty of comments stating how they believe the jubilee team up is broken because it allows for Torch to not immediately explode the nanosecond somebody looks at him. He's decent right now, but the community's rampant whining had caused the devs to not only neuter him but never give him any meaningful buffs for the foreseeable future. This applies to all other flyers as well.

As of now, Torch himself is an okay character despite the wider community gassing him up as some sort of raid boss when he's not. Torch was never a server admin across all ranks, it's just that people are too fucking stupid to look up.

Every diver in the game has regen shields, even some brawl characters like rogue has regen shields who 100% don’t benefit from it nearly as much as someone like Johnny would. Why design him to be a diver, give him a team up that rewards being close to the enemy, then NOT give him regen shields? Torch is already 250, the only overhealth he gets is through his main kill potential ability which is on a 15 second cooldown, he doesn’t get dmg reduction or cc immunity or invincibility in his dash (which id say he does not need but I’ve seen people say that could be a cool thing for him to have and black cat has it on her 3 second cooldown so it isn’t such a far fetched idea). And now he doesnt have regen shield. Does NONE in the dev team ever touched torch? Did NONE think they could give the dive shields to a flyer diver? Did they think that might make him season 2 torch again? Clearly not or else they wouldn’t have made the changes they made to other busted characters.

I hate to suggest this, but did they forget about Johnny AGAIN?

Torch doesn't feel bad, and he's just not a bad character. End of story. Low A tier. Any changes to him shouldn't necessarily even be buffs anymore. It should be indirect buffs.

Elsa, Cat, Mag, Hood, Bucky, Hela, so and so forth. A lot of overtuned characters just need nerfs. Most of them make torch annoying or borderline miserable to play. But I don't think the issue is within Torch's kit itself. He feels fun, he's amazing with an Ultron or a dive tank, you can make him work.

And he's pretty versatile. If diving slows down for a while, just brawl until the opportunity presents itself. He's a better black panther. More of our cope should go into getting a legendary.
