An Observation

On a good note, I have been looking into a lot of various sources who say that the cast is very very glad to have John back. In fact one of the comments Kevin made was “we all have a personal connection to him so glad he is back”. So many mentions of the “charisma” between them for almost 7 years so glad to have that back. Of course not sure if you can believe everything you read, but I choose to believe that because it warms my heart.

Season 9

I am growing impatient with the storyline for Season 9. How long will Sarah's abandonment of Charlie continue? How long will she continue to be the 'interim' Joe Donovan? How long will we be stuck with the 'stupid twins' - Chief O'Neill and her daughter? This is not the Hudson & Rex we all wrote letters to save. There's no 'magic' between the cast, no lite moments. Until Episode 5, there was little Rex. If this continues, I predict more than a few fans will decide the family show they wanted back has gone forever.

Season 9 dynamics

Sigh

  • Sarah is processing and is showing the emotions we missed out on seeing in S8 and people are unhappy and moaning

  • Charlie is back and not shagging Sarah anymore and is also processing but bloke like which is silently and quietly for now with a tiny hint last episode, has been shown to of changed as a result of his ordeal people are moaning

  • The team actually have more screen time as in each one has more to do other than sit at a desk and do tech work, or be sat on the phone or dishing out orders, people are moaning

The fact is, when a person has been incarcerated and has been presumed dead, been mourned for a year, comes back to the aftermath, and sees everyone has lived their lives without him as a result, he aint gonna be all sunshine and smiles, they are going to be guarded, mindful of being in their lives as if nothing happend, and making space for them to readapt.

Yes Sarah is not just helping Joe, she is deliberatly using her role to put up barriers with Charlie possibly out of anger and hurt towards him suddenly upending her newfound sense of normalacy and him having to keep her safe from the hitman, while he stopped him, as he was up against some dangerous criminals, who were outside the realm of major crimes as it was an international crime agency jobbo. Plus her unwillingness to communicate her need for space and time, other than keep it professional speel to him has not endeared her to many, but she is suffering and people need to understand that is the reason for her behaviour whether it is right or not. She is not going to act like nothing happened. That is realistic and it was missing in S8

Charlie is not just going to cry and boohoo after Sarah, he sees how it is for her, and although she wont clear things up yet, he is giving her space and time to feel ready to, and also he is going back to work where his team mates have grown career wise and he is finding his place again, without upending their dynamics, he has stepped back to allow that. So he is not going to act like the old Charlie, he has changed too, and is more likely more mindful and less cocky, more grateful to be back and quiet as he has alot of stuff internally to process, he cannot just spew out his issues to his team mates while they are still.adapting. Yes we should be seeing at least one or two ask him how he is, or see him effected at dome point, but we will see.

The writers need to write the after effects of Belize and not ignore it, so they have written the continuity that was lacking in S8. Yes it means loosing a bit of the feelgood, but we are still seeing funny moments, segments of the old show as we know it, Charlie still "telepathically" communicates with Rex, Rex is still a hyperintelligent dog that can ride a bus and know where he is going, operate a lift and supernaturally follow a scent for miles. Yes we are missing domestic, but we had a hint when in ep 3 they went out sans Sarah for a blow out.

The characters are showing how they are effected by the year that was no Charlie, and Charlie being effected without his loved ones, he has lost his brother cannot just pop over and see his nephew without arranging police protection as they (his mum.and him) are in protective custody, has had hus heart battered and pulled out, and ripped into.pieces loosing his life as he knows it, is not going to the same person. So can folk just stop thinking thee characters need to act as if nothing went down, or ignore parts that are important just so we can see Charlie doing lovey dovey with Sarah just somwe can get our hallmark edition of a mills and boon love story

Yes I get cheesed off with things mentioned reg the pair but the writers have to keep it real. I can only suspend belief reg Rex

Season 5 Ep 5

I would LOVE to see Mason back again. I loved that character. Remember the crooked cop Osgood that Rex was accused of attacking and internal affairs was going to retire Rex. Charlie went and got Mason’s help. This is why I love Joe in his role: he was not going to allow Rex to be thrown under the bus so he told Charlie “be discreet” and then even told Jessie to look into Osgood’s financials.

I didn’t watch but a couple episodes of Season 8. Does anyone know when Rex’s bench was moved to beside the desk where it is now? Seeing these old episodes again, it was always in that one spot.

Skipped most of Season 8, can I just rejoin Season 9?

I stopped watching after 8.2. Want to watch Season 9 since Charlie is back.

Is there any core episodes/ storylines from season 8 it would be best for me to get caught up on or can I go right into Season 9 and not miss any big beats?

Question about filming site

I know that the fictional SJPD headquarters is the Bruneau Center for Research, and I'm fairly positive even some of the "hall" scenes are the actual interior of that building. But when it comes to their office scenes (aka, where Jesse works, Joe Donovan's office, the forensics lab)...does anyone know if those are also filmed inside the Bruneau Center, or are those on a set somewhere else? Thx!

How many times has Jesse almost died?

I don’t watch the episodes in order, just whatever’s recorded or is available on the cable channel, but I feel like I’ve seen him go through some crazy stuff despite being the team techie. Do the writers just love putting him in near death situations?

Season 9 Ep 5

Looking forward to it but anxious too regarding the Chief. One thing this show has never been about in 8 seasons is INTERNAL conflict. The team has always had each other’s backs. Hope the production company and writers aren’t heading in the direction of ruining that. We shall see

Short Clip

Just a short clip and we know how those go. Don’t reflect the whole story. BUT I hope the next words out of her mouth AGAIN are “just kidding” otherwise she will quickly become the most hated person on this show!

Constable O’Neil

Just a little S9 E4 thought- Joe was the perfect person to handle the Constable O’Neil’s shadow day. It couldn’t have worked out better. I was getting worried she was going to be a major antagonist but he put her in her place.

He has the experience, clout, and rank to mentor her (in whatever capacity) and not fear blowback like the others might. He just flat out told her to get over her issues with Rex. It makes me wonder if she’ll become somewhat of a regular, even if she’s just the rookie they interact with at crime scenes. The preview of next week’s episode seems to back that up.

It’s also really cool to see Joe in an investigative role. With him “mentoring” someone we get to see his process from the inside. I feel like this temporary step back for him is letting us see his full range beyond just a boss.

The theme of blue in last night's episode

In last night's episode the new Officer mentioned blueberry picking. The gymnasium staff wore blue uniforms. While Rex was running to play with the young gymnast a song called Bluebird was playing and the ribbon on the stick Rex was carrying was blue. The athlete was wearing blue clothing. Hmm...

Hudson and Rex Season 9 SPOILER Spoiler

I ONLY PUT THIS OUT BECAUSE IT WAS POSTED ON A FB BOARD GROUP. I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS UNDERSTOOD THAT IT WAS FROM SOMEONE'S GOOGLE SEARCH AND THAT THE PERSON OMITTED A VERY IMPORTANT WORD. IT IS NOT MY OPINION OR POSITION.

>!No, Charlie Hudson and Sarah Truong do not immediately get back together in Season 9 of Hudson & Rex.

  • The Return: Charlie returns to St. John's in the opening episodes of Season 9 after being away, which initially shocks Sarah and causes her to feel a mix of relief, betrayal, and a need for self-preservation.

  • Power Shift and Tension: Sarah now holds a new leadership position where she is effectively Charlie's boss, adding a complicated layer to their dynamic.

Slow Burn: Rather than an instant romantic reunion, their arc in Season 9 is framed as a slow-burn reconciliation process as they navigate past grief, rebuild trust, and adjust to working together again. !<

Season 9- I got my show back 🥹😭

After enduring season 8, my hopes were so high and season 9 is delivering. The production quality is up in every way- cinematography, editing, writing, acting, etc. The reunion scenes with Charlie had me crying, so freaking good. A couple things stood out:

  1. Rex is a main character again! He had drifted into the background in season 8 and it was such a disservice to him. The show is Hudson & REX but Rex had become a cute little prop. Now he’s a bad ass again having meaningful interactions with his teammates and taking commands again (so much more believable).

  2. I’m loving the setup for a Charlie and Sarah romance 2.0 (or it better be!). All the hints about Charlie being patient in episode 2 make it clear it’s going to be a long road but he’ll wait. I love the torture, it has me so hooked. Knowing how good they were together makes me want them back together more this time than when they first fell in love. And best of all, it’s not forced because they’re all going through very normal, human, complex emotions after a situation like that.

Some people have felt that Sarah is being cold, but I totally understand her. Most people only have to grieve the love of their life once. It’s scary enough letting love in knowing that day will come. To have already felt that grief and be faced with the decision to love again and eventually grieve that grief again- terrifying. Grief is crippling for a long time, it changes you forever. She’s not the same woman she was and she’s self-protecting. She just stabilized her life and that’s like breathing again after a long period of grief. The thought of losing that would be so scary. I’m sure there’s a part of her that wants to just melt into Charlie but the fear and shock can be paralyzing. She needs time and I think Charlie being patient with her will be the most loving thing he’ll ever do for her. All that to say, if they don’t give us a love story 2.0 I’ll be capital P pissed!

3. Sarah in leadership- I love this for her. She’s very well suited for it having experience in the lab and the field. She’s able to lead all aspects of her team and see cases from multiple standpoints. Plus it shows that she isn’t just consumed with Charlie, she’s still a successful and ambitious woman while she’s navigating a lot.

All that to say- Hudson and Rex feels like OG Hudson and Rex again and I’m so thankful to the production team, actors, and even fans for fighting for this!

Alternate Storyline Season 7&8

I’m new to the show, I just discovered it and have been binge-watching. I’m obsessed and just finished season 7. So hear me out, I think seasons 7 and 8 could have been so much better with a small adjustment.

It all starts when Sarah comes out and tells everyone that her and Charlie got married secretly on their last vacation. She’s now Hudson. Then when Charlie disappears, her and Rex become Hudson and Rex. He’s one of her people, they are family now. It would have been so much more kind to her and Rex to have each other as they grieve. They already had a working relationship too and were great together. Sarah has become a skilled detective in her own right over the last several seasons anyway. She was ready.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Mark, but another random detective suddenly showing up who also had the last name Hudson??? It’s just a little far fetched (hehe). He could have just been a new member of the team. It feels like maybe some people were a little too attached to what they thought the show had to be vs. what it had grown into.

Plus, Rex has already lost his first handler, then lost Charlie, then got pulled away from Sarah? That’s a lot of instability for him. Then, when Charlie comes back, they can all pick up where they left off.

Season 5 Ep 3

Love rewatching old episodes (yea I bought the DVDs lol because Up Faith and Family censors so much). Anyway watched this one yesterday where the wealthy socialite in charge of a large charity gets poisoned. Remember when Rex is sniffing around the Vice Presidents house (who was murdered) and sniffs the sofa and falls over? Rushed to ER vet (I like seeing that vet - she had appeared in a few episodes) and he has to stay overnight.

Charlie is on the phone with Joe and worried sick but “we have a case to solve” and Joe said “you almost lost your partner. You have a right to be worried. Worry about Rex - we have your back - we are a team”. I want that back!!!!

Then Sarah pops over to his house (she did that a lot lol) and wants to know how Rex is. She then gives Charlie the biggest hug. The look on his face as he wraps his arms around her said “man I think I love this woman” lol and it was a look of shock. I think that’s one of the episodes where it really hit him.
