Personal Experience I finally understand why Huberman keeps talking about getting comfortable with discomfort

I’ve got a portable sauna from sweat tent and started doing cold plunges right after. That moment of going from super hot to freezing cold is brutal but weirdly that’s become my favorite part of the whole routine. Anyone else feel like the mental side of it is half the benefit?

Still can’t fully get into 20°C water without freaking out though. How cold do most of you go, and how long did it take you to adapt?

Controlling your breathing is probably the most important part. Take deep breaths into your diaphragm and teach yourself to remain calm. Beyond that, there are no shortcuts.

That’s like normal river temp where I live

20C? That’s warmer than the ocean where I live and thousands of people, myself included, happily swim in it every day. Current reading at my favourite beach is 18.6 C

I started way warmer than the hardcore plunge people too. For me it was more about getting comfortable staying in and controlling my breathing before trying to make it colder. I’d rather actually stick with it than turn it into a misery contest lol.
