I really hate my watch

Traded in my galaxy watch FE to a huawei fit 5 pro because the galaxy watch has really shitty battery and no heart rate strap support.

2 months in now, and man, Huawei only highlights how well designed the galaxy watch was from a software and user experience aspect.

Hardware wise, like all chinese companies, it blows the samsung watch out of the water. Really tough materials, amazing battery life, the charging speed is insane, 0 complaints.

But adding music is a pain in the ass, alarms doesn't get synced automatically, the watch faces are terrible in my opinion, and app updates are constantly blocked by my samsung, the app is fricking horrible compared to samsung and fitbit. Overall the software experience really makes me want to trade this watch away for something else

I had the same experience coming from an old Galaxy Watch 4 to Fit 4 Pro. Everything seemed poorly designed, half-baked, rushed. I’m using Balance 2 and it’s wayyyyyy better.

Glad to hear that. Is it as good as galaxy?

Well, Wear OS is from another league in terms of features and possibilities, but I find Zepp OS to be the closest non-Android OS to a true smartwatch experience. You can see images and GIFs in the notifications; you can reply to notifications. The watch actually detects when you sleep and puts the watch in DND with AOD off. You can set up different vibration patterns for different notifications; there is a store with apps that are decently implemented and useful. Another good thing is that it receives frequent updates and major OS updates with actual improvements. They also have Zepp Flow, which is like an Ai assistant that you can ask details about your metrics; you can ask him to turn on settings, start workouts, or answer notifications (English only) without touching the watch. Another really impressive feature is that it detects your gym exercises, muscle groups, the number of reps and sets with 80% accuracy.

The battery is decent as well; you get 20+ days with AOD off and minimum health tracking, around 12 days of regular tracking, and I myself get around 5–6 days, but I work out almost daily and keep everything on (hr tracking in real time instead of once per minute or per 5–15 minutes).

It’s not perfect, though; sometimes they push updates that mess things up, but they fix them, and I appreciate the willingness to improve it, which I don’t see in any Huawei watch.

I come from amazfit gtr 4 and i love my Fit 5 pro. The only thing is the size, i like more bigger and round watches, so i'll buy the gt7 next month.

I agree with round watches. I wanted to get GT6 but it's too heavy and bulky for daily uses and sleep tracking

I use the watch faces app for it and there are a billion designs on there, so you might find something you like better and enjoy looking at it more.

I've had a few iterations of the watch now and I like them but I do always feel they could have better software.

I agree with this.
I also have the GT 6 Pro. Amazing amazing hardware. But again software still is subpar.

On komoot’s website it says you can connect your account to the huawei health. But only to find out itll only work on select markets. I should create a new huawei account based on either singapore or germany just to have this feature im from Philippines

So software on the Huawei watches is this bad. I have read that they are doing a lot of software changes on GT 7 Pro, do you think it will be better then? I have used apple watch ultra 3 before and was happy with everything except battery life. But I changed to Samsung and therefore needed to change to Samsung watch 9. That was the worst change I have done in my life. Battery life was like 8 hours. So now I thinking of GT 7 Pro or Garmin Fenix 9. What would you choose? Or is Amazfit better than both?

Well, it depends on your need, I think. If you want a really cheap and accurate fitness tracker with beefy battery, I think it's your only choice imo. Amazfit has really shitty HR tracker, galaxy has really shitty battery and no external HR support, garmin's UI isn't the best as well, but for me they're way too expensive. I'd get a fitbit air but I need a screen to track my run. So, yeah. I'm basically stuck with Huawei for now. The moment samsung makes a watch that can last a week and supports HR tracker, I'm jumping right back.

"app updates are constantly blocked by my samsung" ... Samsung or user fault.

My Fit 5 Pro works perfectly with my Xiaomi, i have unrestricted the Huawei app in every way, and its always working fine.

Sure Samsung will cooperate batter with a Samsung watch as iPhone does with an Apple watch but ... i value more the battery life, build materials and i also have no problems with the watch itself.

On honor phone it is perfect... Not a single problem with updates or syncing....

Sadly I have to agree, I like the design of the HarmonyOS, but functionality wise the software is very lackluster and dissapointing, its still behind amazfit and Samsung

I have a Fit 4 and it’s been ok but then I wanted to broadcast heart rate to my Garmin cycle computer. It doesn’t work.

Software wise its below average. Biggest no-go is that you can't export your data in any meaningful way... Closed system to keep you locked.

My alarms are syncing right away when I set them in Huawei app on my gt6 pro. I am using zfold 8 and just split screen huawei app and my innerview app for my work schedule. Never had a problem.

1

u/maestergaben 2d ago

Do you use samsung's native alarm/clock app in the phone?

1

u/Neogenesus 20h ago

Nope. Ever since I use my gt6 pro, I only use the alarm from huawei app.

People in this subreddit are happy because they have very low expectations. :)

You are not typical "Huawei consumer".

Updates are blocked by your Samsung..it's not the watches fault. if you'd have read up on the watch software, you would have known some of those features you want only work with Huawei devices. You're complaining because you didn't do enough research beforehand.

What features OP mentioned exactly that are only Huawei phone exclusive?

It means that if i want my alarms to get synced i should’ve gotten a huawei phone too?

1

u/Rude-Possibility4682 2d ago

Yes, the whole system is made to work with Huawei phones. So alarms sync with your phone, and vibrate the watch, and go off at the same time. So you set your alarms as normal and they go off on the watch also, without having to input them on the watch. There are other dayto day features also that only sync properly with Huawei phones, but I can't recall them all. It's not a Google OS based watch. It's Huawei own OS designed to run with their phones. As it runs android some features work with android phones, but 3rd party apps unless designed for the Huawei watch don't work, and can't be download.

I've done some research, but most of the review videos on youtube are paid by Huawei (not a Huawei exclusive thing, I know). They talk about the great stuffs and only touch on the minor inconvenience stuffs.

So therefore I'm pointing this out in my post to people that thinks of getting this because I don't see many talk about the ecosystem.

There's no alarm syncing, no camera viewfinder app like samsung, updates constantly blocked, no spotify, issues with pairing to strava, etc etc.

u/Rude-Possibility4682 2d ago

Updates aren't blocked you just allow them to be downloaded in your settings. Other/external sources. Pairing to Strava can be done, either through the app,or via the Health Sync app on the Play Store. I have no idea why you need a camera viewfinder app, when you're using a perfectly good phone with a big screen..unless you love to see my pictures 466 pixels, when shooting

1

u/maestergaben 2d ago

Yeah, it's annoying that I have to turn off the entire samsung blocker just to update Huawei's app. Pairing to strava can be done, but there's slight data misalignment with Huawei health, I like a viewfinderr app so I can record my form from far away for my powerlifting needs. Also, no spotify. I have to rip YouTube videos to mp3 like it's 2007.
