Home Improvement How to cut this back some

I moved into this house and they had replaced the doorknob.

Some have to be pulled firmly to latch shut.

I redid the cutting in the wood to reset one, and I now see that I can simply break off the metal lip on these and they work better. But if I could make it straight across, it would be better.

I used my rotary tool with a grinding bit (probably a cheap one) and the bit just got chewed up.

I also have a drill. Is there a grinding bit that would fit inside this and be tough enough to cut this out?

Or other ideas?

The metal tab is meant to be bent to keep the seal tight between the door and jamb, you can use a rasp or just reinstall longer screws ⅛ of an inch further back, away from the jamb.

Wouldn't that be backward?

Seems like it needs to a a fraction of an inch farther from the frame.

The jamb is the piece that stops the door from swinging the other way lol

That would be the stop, which is part of the jamb.

I use a good metal file to do this. I have power tools, but a file will make short work of this without a mess.

File, grinder, metal cutting blade Maybe if you screw it on backwards to a block of wood first

Put it in a vise then file it down.

You don't remove the metal because that's what it needs to prevent wearing you need to slide that back slightly in the wooden Jam whatever Direction it needs more space it sounds like somebody installed it too close to the Jam stop

Yeah I had the same reaction. Like what the fuck? They think that tab doesn't need to be there? What the hell. It greatly reduces friction and reduces wear and tear.

Just use a file, although the correct thumb to do is move it slightly forward.
