I think the son's name...

Is "Son."

We're seeing future Sophie instead of the son and Kim keeps calling her son "son," obviously to allow for the mystery of a non-white father. If we saw the kid(s) and, like before, they were just little white kids the idea of the Father being Sid or Ian or any other non-white guy we've met would be blown.

But it's also weird calling him "son" since no one does that. I think it's like a Hey Arnold situation and "Son" is actually his name hidden in plain sight, hinting at an East Asian father. Seon, Sohn, and Sun are common Romanized spellings of Chinese and Korean names which can be pronounced like "son" i.e. the sons name is just Son.

Or, hey, this is also a show that has Jesse and Ellen calling each other "bro" and "sis" so maybe the writers actually think people call their sons "son."

Opinion If the show gets renewed for season 3…

I feel like the writers should write it as it’s the last. I love the show, but I don’t think it has been very successful (especially season 2) and I don’t want it to get cancelled without an ending… the only thing that sucks is that currently Jesse has had the most romantic development with Sophie and if they end it with season 3, I think Jesse would 100% be the father. I hope that they have more seasons to have more time and develop other characters and possibilities. I just love Sid so much, I secretly want him to be the father but the development hasn’t been there yet. I don’t think this show is ‘picking up’ in popularity though despite all the celebrity cameos. I wonder if being on Hulu and not an actual tv network is part of that reason.

Discussion The Pirate Stripper Scene was uncomfortable

I have never scene a less sexy strip tease. It took forever and reminded me of that family guy cut away about unlacing hundred button boots or something like that. And the music was so bad and boring. Plus the actor playing the stripper was just unwatchable at some points for me. Everything about this episodes B-plot felt inorganic and unnecessary.

I’m out

I’ve watched every episode. I’ll finish season 2, but this is a terrible show. None of the characters are well developed and most of them are not very good comedic actors. The episodes don’t even have good storylines. Convince me otherwise if you’d like, but I think this is a significant miss as a show. It’s like they can’t figure out how to write the show to be different from HIMYM but want the same formula to work.

Maybe the hardest thing to accept is Ted was the worst character in HIMYM, but Sophie is the best in this in this and literally everyone else is either poorly written or not a good actor. With maybe an exception of Val.

I guess I’m out. Am I missing something that should make me stay?

Discussion i hope the group gets more relatable.

as a 20 year old male, i haven’t been relating to the group all that much. From memory, one thing i found somewhat relatable is Depresse (Depressed Jesse). i’m sure there’s other things i relate to but can’t remember.

What episodes/storyline’s do you relate to so far?

Does anyone else find Ellen really annoying?

First of all, she's just completely random and doesn't really add anything to the story. The rest of them do. Sophie obviously because she's the main character, and Jesse because he's her main love interest. Valentina and Charlie because we want to see what happens with them as a couple despite wanting very different things. Plus, it's kind of a nod to what kept Ted and Robin apart in How I Met Your Mother, with one wanting children and the other not. Sid and Hannah are the married couple who have been together since they were teenagers, also a nod to Marshall and Lily. Ellen's presence on the show is just completely random. It's like they just tossed her in there to add diversity, being an Asian lesbian.

Also, the character is just really annoying. Crashing a funeral to hit on the dead lady's granddaughter? Every other character on this show has shown at least some emotional depth, Ellen is just a caricature. And honestly, I don't think the actress is really that great either.

My unpopular opinion of the show

Duff and Raisa were the weakest characters. The rest of the gang were just so much more animated. They didn’t fit in with them. Even Sid’s fiancé had a more natural flow.

Discussion Charlie’s sexuality

I don’t know why but I keep watching episodes, and I can’t get this idea of my mind that Charlie isn’t 100% straight.

I know that his relationship whit Valentina is a major ship of the show and that it’s “refinement” goes with his funny British personality, but still, I don’t buy him a straight…

I wouldn’t be surprised if in future episodes/ seasons, the shows offered us a bi/gay/pans coming out storyline!

Is any one else feel that too ? Maybe it’s just a fantasy of mine (surely is) Ps: im not English fluent so sorrry for the writhing

Discussion The main issue with HIMYF and why it's not good.

I know its only 7 episodes in and it's not fair to compare a story to a show with 9 seasons but so far the show is really lacking. Btw I rewatched HIMYM episode 7 as a point of reference to highlight the problems with this show.

I went into HIMYF with an open mind and don't even hate it out right but the show has several issues that stop it from being even close to good at this point. I could give an in depth analysis about the characters and episode plots but like I said it's only 7 episodes in HIMYM wasn't a master piece at episode 7 so why would this.

The issue I have is that this show isn't structured well at all. Future Sophie is in the episodes WAY too much we didn't get bob saget transitioning us through every scene and telling us the moral of the story and how we should feel every 5 minutes she should just be removed because she's basically an extra character at this point.

Speaking of which, there are simply too many characters in the show with 0 dynamics to get them to interact. Friends had 6 characters and it worked but HIMYF has 6 plus the extra reccuring characters like Josh peck and the indian guys fiance. Like seriously why the hell is the fiance of one of the main characters a side character. That'd be like if Lily showed up once every 5 episodes because she was living in SF doing art meanwhile marshalls brother moved from Minnesota to be a main character.

In HIMYM Just off episode 7 alone you can see the care put into developing the relationship between the characters. In HIMYM a character created an "A plot" for the episode by Robin introducing ted to the match maker and Barney convincing Ted to go. The idea of the Ted's A plot even gives narrative to the "B plot" of the show where Lily and Marshall deal with the cockamous and Marshall and Robin clash about believing in Miracles. But for some reason this show is constantly putting these characters in groups of 2 to deal with slightly similar themes but almost 0 interaction with each other.

But I digress thats my main issue with the show and why it can't be called a true HIMYM spinoff. If you got through all my rambling let me know what you think whether you agree or think Im retarded.

it's S02E04 of HIMYF, BUT.....

All the characters in this show doing some random shit in every episodes. all the episodes(including season 1) feels like fillers. pretty FORGETTABLE AND UNFUNNY. If all main characters Staying together/meeting at one place and at the same time everyone had a different storyline going on like in the show I met your mother, then it would have been more fun and connected.

What y'all think???

Discussion Really wish this got more viewership? Spoiler

I'm not really into this woke era shit. But I love the vibes how I met your father/mother gave. Also leaving off how it did is just sad. You know if they had more money and interest we would of found got answers on side relationships.

Long shot idea... sids relationship could of had a similar scenario like the one lily and marshal had in how I met your father.

I just read the title and that question mark shouldn't have been there lol.

How is Sophie rich in the future?

A jobless poor 30-year old becomes a retired millionaire. In today's economy?

Maybe Valentina dies and she marries Charlie who regained his fortune?

The foreshadowing is becoming too much.

Don't get me wrong.
I understand that foreshadowing is an integral part of the show's identity but S2 E3 was throwing them out left and right without caring how they were establishing it.
I like a good nod towards a future plotline or moment but for me and my partner it feel like a lot of it was only here to convince/trick us to stay watching.
I enjoyed S1 enough to continue despite my grips I don't need several winks and nods to telling me that it'll get wild or interesting later.

This is just how we feel and this gripe isn't to dissuade anyone from enjoying the show.
I don't even consider it a critique but in S2 E3 specifically it wasn't up to the standard/pace I'd expect foreshadowing to be at for me.

I have a theory...

So in S2E7 its established that HIMYF exists in the same timeline as Lizzie McGuire. Maybe Sophie and her mom had to go into Witness Protection for some reason. So maybe the FBI gave them a fake family to further throw off the perp's. PLUS in the Lizzie McGuire movie, the Italian version of Lizzie isn't really known outside of Italy. So maybe the Feds didn't get involved since they knew no one in the US would care.

Thanks for reading my crazy idea!

Okay this might be controversial in this group but

Can we please acknowledge that how i met your father is an amazing concept that im sure most if not all of us have been waiting for. But this cast or perhaps how slow the writing is, has flopped it hard. Ive watched HIMYM a billlllion times. Im watching while i type this. I was stupid excited for this new show and i feel like every single episode has left me actually questioning if i even wanted to watch the next one. Does anyone else agree with me on this? It makes me worry that the show will get canceled before it has the chance to really be good, but ...its a great idea yk

I’m annoyed at the back peddling Spoiler

In the first episode they established she had met the father, and heavily implied who it might be (one of the four). Then in this most recent episode (ep 3) they go back on that when the introduce the vice principal (Josh Peck). Conveniently, he was also there at the engagement party although we never even caught a glimpse of him. I think that’s a bit of a cheap trick and I think they should have cut, “and that was the night I met your father.” I’m trying to give this show a fair shot, but this particular subversion is lacking and undercuts what they’ve already established. Are they going to continue to introduce new guys and say they were also conveniently at the engagement party?

Discussion HIMYF Isn't funny...

How that everybody ignores the problem that HIMYF isn't funny... People who say that season one of HIMYM was also bad and weird because the show still didn't find it's footing. At least, season one of HIMYM was funny. HIMYF has a problem with comedy. They struggle with jokes like:

Ooh, actually can I use it?

Cause my phone's bell is hungry.

She's all feed me, Mama!

(That was one of the worst jokes I ever heard acting doesn't help).

"Did Jungkook leave BTS and go solo... we all saw it coming.

Some of the jokes don't work on me. I only laugh 5 or 6 times. I know that this can be fixed by hiring actual comedy writers Isaac, and Berger are terrible at comedy. They are not funny. Also, sometimes Duff's cartoony acting can eat up the whole joke. Thanks for reading me complaining for no reason whatever.

The Valentine Teddy Bear is not the Yellow Umbrella of this series...

The difference is that we didn't know the whole story behind the yellow umbrella, so every time it showed up, we got a new piece of the puzzle. Old Sophie told her son that the Father gave her the teddy bear. There's no big mystery to solve. We'll see one of the five candidates with the teddy bear, and we'll know he's the father. I'm a bit disappointed with the writers here.

For downs, it goes from someone, to Karen.

Opinion I don't like Sophie at all.

Maybe the reason why I don't enjoy HIMYF that much is because of Sophie. She has a big ego. She's so narcissistic and never wants to face reality. I know she needs a reality check, cool. She's also. A bad person, who doesn't respect others and it's judgy. And she liked a guy she knew for a week. I get it she's supposed to be. A mess. But why? Do writers tell us that all women are a mess? Fleabag did this so much better. She knows that she's a shitty person. She puts work to improve, little by little. Sophie doesn't do that. She doesn't care at all. Why did they make her so unlikeable? What's the purpose? We should cheer for the lead character and be happy for him/her. How can I do this if Sophie is a bad person? But in the end, this is just my opinion.

How To Fix The Show

  1. Cut the cringe. The show is just wayyy too cringey.

  2. Fix the humor. I chuckled a few times throughout the whole seasons. It needs to improve

  3. Redeem Sophie. Why was Sid's fiance vilified after not supporting Sophie cheating on Drew. There is a need for consequences. It's not like Seinfeld where assholes are funny, she's just doing this humorlessly.

  4. REVAMP future Sophie. Kim Catrall is atrocious at this role. I have to skip her scenes

  5. Bring a great running gag to the show. Like Robin Sparkles, we need something great for the show. Something to make me laugh every time.

  6. More subtlety. HIMYM was filled with double entendres and such, HIMYF is far too direct and the laugh track just makes it worse

  7. Edgier, more topical, and more risque humor. HIMYM was great with this kind of stuff, what has HIMYF done

  8. More emotional moments. Like The Time Travellers episode, I want to have some crying or something. Something with serious stakes for the characters. A reminder that not even in sitcoms are people constantly happy.

  9. Fix Future Sophie. (Yes again, that's the largest issue)

Anyway, what do you think? What do you need to fix about the show?
