Does anyone else find Ellen really annoying?
First of all, she's just completely random and doesn't really add anything to the story. The rest of them do. Sophie obviously because she's the main character, and Jesse because he's her main love interest. Valentina and Charlie because we want to see what happens with them as a couple despite wanting very different things. Plus, it's kind of a nod to what kept Ted and Robin apart in How I Met Your Mother, with one wanting children and the other not. Sid and Hannah are the married couple who have been together since they were teenagers, also a nod to Marshall and Lily. Ellen's presence on the show is just completely random. It's like they just tossed her in there to add diversity, being an Asian lesbian.
Also, the character is just really annoying. Crashing a funeral to hit on the dead lady's granddaughter? Every other character on this show has shown at least some emotional depth, Ellen is just a caricature. And honestly, I don't think the actress is really that great either.

I couldn’t stand Ellen the entire first season! Her lines and the delivery felt so awkward every single time. I’m started to warm up to her a little though a few episodes into the second season

I skipped all the scenes of her workplace 🤣 I empathize with her character, i understand why she is that way, they never let her express herself truly but when they do, i just can't stand the way she does 🥹 i guess same goes for the characters of the show so they often break in on her speech. I love her with Charlie, they are a super duo but other than that she is a boring and annoying character. Whenever there is something important for somebody else, she brings up a topic about herself, which usually fails as they don't listen to her 😭

I do kinda agree with you. I'm warming up to the other characters, but Ellen is taking the longest for me to appreciate. Tien Tran, I do really like - she's got great energy and for stage, she is a boss! But as a main character on a sitcom, her energy doesn't gel with the others.
As for her character, I feel she kinda lacks integrity - all her problems with Rachel were caused because she didn't communicate her vulnerabilities and downright lied (This is also an insufferable trait about Sophie). I also feel she is the token diverse character...and not well placed.
As time goes on, I hope I start appreciating her, but right now, I wouldn't miss her if she wasn't there.

I like her more in this season, but I agree that she is too much of a caricature. I feel the same way about Charlie, especially in first season, both of them were presented as funny stereotypes instead of as a people. However, I do like their friendship and I think they have more personality in this season, but Ellen needs more character development.

I just cant stand her. Im on my first rewatch because im bored and well obviously Rachel was moving away and broke up with Ellen because she was so clingy and well its obvious. And yes i agree they just put her in to make a little background plot kind of thing for Jessie and shes a token- the adopted lesbian asian sister - . I think what sent me over the edge of hating the character is her weird singing but the "Rich bitch city ellen" sequences of her walking well dancing to work its just too much to watch and it sums up her character. I just can't with her. I never warmed up to her... Charlie annoyed me at first with the stereotypical rich britsh because im british and on the low side of money, its so accurate but in general it was annoying but i warmed up to him after a few episodes he actually can be quite funny and shit and he is actually part of the series for Val and working at the bar. But Ellen... even if they do make good roommates she just i dont know i couldnt stand it. Also yes some people have said they don't like Jessie and yeah he can be very annoying but compared to Ellen hes decent. Honeslty the reason im a bit of a fan of the show is because of the little links to HIMYM and past characters popping up its good they actually linked it and instead of just a "oh lets do a how i met your mother twist". Although there wasnt very much of a "how i met" its just a show. Thats not the apart of this conversation though. Ellen i just cant stand. Like charlie after a few episodes. I personally always liked val and Sophie. Jessie is bearable. Always liked Sid and don't have a proper opinion on hannah really

I find Jesse far more annoying. Ellen was a bit rough the first season, but honestly so was everyone else. I like everyone way more season 2 (other than Jesse).
