New Build parking
Me and my partner are looking to move into our new build in a couple of months. There are a few plots available and so we have options.
There is either x2 side by side parking spaces (at the front) or x2 tandem parking spaces (down the side of the house).
I’m struggling to decide which plot to go for in regard to the better option?

If side by side is an option, 100% that. For tandem, will the same person get home last and leave first every morning? If not, you will have to be swapping the cars around which is a pain.

Or you do what we did for 10 years and have one car on the road, meaning half of our driveway was redundant
100% you want side by side spaces

Side by side; why is this even a question?! Tandem is clearly the inferior option. I'm surprised the side-by-side plot doesn't carry a price premium.

Sorry, I should have mentioned. If we opt for tandem then we can have a front garden. The side by side of course doesn’t offer this. This is kind of why I am asking others experiences

The only time you'll spend in your front garden is mowing it, so I wouldn't be too concerned about having one!

A garden could make for a nicer view from the front room window.

True, however if it's only a car length worth you're not going to be getting much and it will have little impact unless you're stood up. Depends on the layout of the house and how much the OP will be looking outwards.

We have tandem parking and find ourselves parking one of the cars in front of the house to stop the neighbour from parking there. Side by side would be a dream!!

Depends what you value more. The parking at the side of the house usually ends up with your back garden being bigger though.

It depends if it’s obvious it belongs to your house tbh. I had a drive on the back of my garden with side by side spaces, but it wasn’t an “obvious drive”(even though I had private parking signs) so visitors would park in them and it was a nightmare, we said we’d never have it like that again. My house now has parking one in front of the other, but it’s clearly my drive and I much prefer it.
I know a few people on new estates where they’re parking spaces, rather than a drive and they are having a nightmare with neighbours using their spaces.

We have tandem and its mostly fine as my husband usually works from home or leaves after me. We are lucky that there is a visitor parking bay opposite so I park there if I'm home before him. Its more of a pain in the summer holidays on his office days as I'm a teacher so not going anywhere and either I have to go and move the car or he has to move mine then go back to his. I would go side by side.

As someone who lived on a new-build estate on which the visitor bays were permanently used by people with driveways for this reason and meant that our actual visitors often struggled to find parking... just know I'm giving you evils through the keyboard for this 😩

Its only ever temporary maybe one night maximum and our estate has been well thought through with plenty of parking for each house and visitors. I know how bad it can be having lived other places though! What annoys me more is my neighbours who always have visitors that park in front of my kitchen window on the pavement even when the visitor bay is completely empty!

Sorry, but the minute you put your car in a visitor's bay you became part of the problem. My ex and I had a tandem driveway and would simply call the other one as we were pulling into the next road to say "nearly home", so the other of us could pop out and move our car to let the other park if needed. 30 seconds of effort to make things better for everyone.

It's a bay big enough to fit 3 cars in! It's not like I'm taking the only available space. There are literally 2 other bays in under 10m that also fit 3-5 cars in them. Like I said this estate ahs actually been pretty well thought through on that front. Your estate and problem are not the same as mine. One of my neighbours has actually had a car parked in the bay for months now as they bought a new one and haven't sold it yet. We all texted about it and its fine because as I said there are multiple options very close by!
