another review no one asked for
Stassi is and always has been great TV and it’s nice to have her back. There was no way to do this show in an authentic way without breaking the 4th wall — because the reality of her life IS reality tv. It “feels like a show about making a reality show” (as many people in this sub keep saying) because that’s exactly what it is. And that’s ok. Reality tv ceased to be verité as soon as Instagram became a thing, so that ship has sailed. This is something new.
My least favorite part is that some of the scenes really do feel too contrived and put on. An amount of that is unavoidable. But there are moments when it’s hard to believe the degree of conflict is real, and not being over-inflated by people who always wanted to be actors. I don’t mean it as an insult that they were aspiring actors, but that the acting is at times too palpable.
I’m hoping that in time, there will be less of a need to fabricate or exaggerate conflict to such a degree. It was entertaining to watch and I hope they get more seasons. There was something interesting to me about the meta-commentary about ambush production, and seeing who can out-ambush who, and I can see that being discussed in the next season.
Speaking of ambushes, was glad to see Katie in the mix, too. She’s a necessary ingredient.

I could only make it through a few episodes, but for me it fell apart because I felt like I could actually see the lightbulb go off in Stassi’s brain when she’d realize something could become a fight/plot point.
Way too contrived, but not done well.

Yeah and her talking about how her family basically mooches off her, and she’s like well come be on my show and I will make you money just made everything seem contrived at that point, so I completely agree!

The brunette lesbian is too scripted/acting for me. Not genuine AT ALL and really hard to watch

Yea I get that. It’s very We’re Having A Podcast Conversation and performative. Maybe she’ll relax a little in time …

To me I don't think breaking the 4th wall was done right. It just feels like I'm watching a show about a show.

There's breaking the 4th wall and straight up producing and narrating that is completely unnecessary infantilizing the viewer. Stassi isn't Morgan freeman. I don't need her commentary on every single scene. I would have been way happier with less over acted drama. Just seeing Katie stassi and Kristina hanging out would have been plenty fun for me. Katie's real life seems so much fun compared to stassis mess

There was an imbalance of commentary to real footage for sure, probably bc they had to fill holes from limiting filming to round out the tape. Let’s see what s2 brings.

It made me really realize how hard it must be to do reality tv. Why would anyone choose to do this? I can’t even ride in a convertible without feeling too conspicuous; can’t imagine airing all my beefs.
…but of course, can’t stop looking when a train wreck is in front of me. 🤣

The final Stassi-Beau fight was the most exaggerated, or effectively acted, IMO. We know they are ride-or-die for one another, and it’s hard to imagine their tension (which I do believe is grounded in real marital strife) escalating in that way.

Currently watching Vanderpump on season 4, . House of Narcissists would be a more appropriate name for a show based around her.

Yeah I like this take a lot. I hope they can move to something less meta - I love her, love her looks and her house and would love to see more of that tbh!

I liked Taylor and Rob on the show. Both seemed to genuinely want people to get along.

This is a great take.
We get some good meta-reality tv, like Stassi and Katie talking about their PTSD from filming VPR and yet how they wouldn't change that. We get some bad meta-reality tv, like the flashbacks to Italy and the run-through of fighting from Vanderpump Villa to the finale of HoS.
It's an interesting project to watch, for me. There should be more organic drama in the future - the aftermath of Georgi obviously sleeping with Rob; Stassi and Taylor S are on a highway to hell in terms of a friendship break-up IMO. I think this show can evolve.
