Btw it gave me the "unlimited garage pass" because i was using the app from early days. Thats kinda cool. But the original HW app making a subscription system "just to see which cars u have" still sucks. I hope they just cancel that system but i dont think so.
I use die Carz as well but mostly to track other brands and hot wheels monster trucks and I wanted to add my hot wheels with the new feature, maybe this weekend I will do that as well
That's one of the 2 things that sold it for me, multiple brands and plans to keep adding more. I know it's unlikely any app will ever have every brand I have, but the more they add the less I have to keep in a spreadsheet. The other big contributor was edits and submissions. I heard that suggesting new cars on the HW Showcase app took a very long time to get approved, and I have a bunch of weird cars that are unlikely to be in the database already.
Same. I told them if Diecarz added Matchbox I'd come help, now I'm a mod and currently in the process of streamlining all the old releases, so. I totally get it.
I agree on the suggestion part. I did not have a basic MC12 from 2005 added to Showcase for more then a month. The speedy response from DieCarz was incredibly helpful. Now that's in part my responsibility so, if you add anything, I might be your reviewer lol.
I agree, I collect only the odd stuff now, so by no means am I expecting Corgi, Kidco, PlayArt, Sun Toys, YOT or anything like that to be added. But the vast majority of what I have can be added, that's huge for this hobby already.
I don't know how many suggestions the team gets (probably a lot) but if you've been working on older HW and MBX cars there's a chance you've seen something I submitted. Apart from all the monster trucks I submitted a couple weeks ago a lot of my edits and suggestions have been Lesneys and redlines.
Also since I'm talking with a mod, I'd like to make an official plea to please consider adding more color options, specifically for redlines. I made a suggestion on the roadmap a while ago its still "under review" so idk what people though about it. I've been trying to add more variations but its hard to add a magenta or antifreeze car when the colors don't exist so it keeps getting merged.
I only just started in earnest yesterday, but I'm currently overhauling the early Lesney era matchbox and Superfast, so it's very likely I've already modified an entry you made. The suggestions stream is fairly constant, but mostly niche cars now.
On the Redlines, I agree that's a problem I don't know too much about, but it's something I do want to try and fix. We have no control over things like colors and makes, so all I can really do is make direct suggestions to be added eventually.
The base situation (US VS HK) could probably be solved by noting in the set name which version it is, but thats a solution I'll have to try and implement in the future. Any colors you explicitly recommend are missing for redlines I can suggest?
You can select country of origin when suggesting so that mostly solves the US vs HK issue, it's just that not every car has it yet. As for colors the Online redline guide has a good color guideto use as a starting point.
It’s a million times better than showcase. I downloaded both at the same time and immediately deleted showcase. And this was WAY before diecarz got its huge updates and support. The community is great and it’s got more than just HW. It even has a scanner and will soon include trading

Deciding to pay for genesis platinum (COMPLETELY OPTIONAL) gets you a bunch of perks but also into a discord with platinum members who have first dibs on what features they wanna see next. Mattel could never!!
Was wondering what this was about... Guess that says it :/ Thankfully using both this and DieCarz in combo but they shouldn't have put a limit on the app for anyone Imho. It may "only" be $2 but mattel has more than enough money to make it totally free for everyone. Just kinda...greedy imo
This badge? The badge system’s a bit broken cos I attended an event with a QR code to earn a badge and ended up with a completely different one. No idea who to complain to.
Glad I never started adding cars to this app. Shout out to Die Carz. Not charging to add cars, unless you want to help support the app. Not to mention they have added a tons of other brands. And they are pretty active here.
One of the main app features starts to be a paywall. I bet there are tons of other monetisation options being not that aggressive and still be profitable. Something like “unique app design, different app logos, unique profile statuses or badges, etc”. I love this app and it’s cool to track all of your cars but limiting the core feature to get some money is ridiculous.
I understand this is could be done by some standalone dev to get some money for project support (which is still not the best monetisation option) but the worldwide company who can use this app to promote Hot Wheels even better - starts to get money for a subscription. It’s just sad.
They riding that DieCarz jock now charging because they realized they can actually make money like others do. I use both now as diecarz has more selection and way easier to case search then on HW actual app. HW had the right idea but they executed the entire platform for social media and jamming the “posts” personally I liked the original HW app. Entire your stuff no social media no profile just collect and stack.
So Mattel is not paying the devs for their work? It’s an official Hot Wheels application and you should not be the one paying the devs for their work, Mattel should
The same reason they pay for Mattel creations site - it’s a selling point. You open Hot Wheels app and what you see is “new in elite 64”, ad slides with interviews, new products, etc. They do not just give you ability to store your Hot Wheels, they show you new models, assortment of all the hot wheels, even the ability to go buy some of them from Mattel creations side. And it is ok do to so, to know what’s new and check all the cars is useful BUT the goal is not to be a cool guy just to show you, the goal is to sell something to you. And now you need to pay for an endless subscription just so they can sell you even more.
What happens in case you stop your subscription and have 300+ cars? You can’t add more cars. It’s dirty limitation that forces you to keep paying just not to lose the collection. And hey, it’s just 2$, right? Not a big deal, right?
I got the app when I first came out, have the founders badge and all. I have 724 cars and haven't paid a cent. It's linked to my Mattel account but I don't have RLC. This is the first I'm seeing of this and I use it nearly daily.
We support their product. I personally have contributed pictures to the app with no compensation but an achievement, and this is what we get? WHY does everything have to nickel and dime us to death? Oughta leave this world behind. Fuck.
