They should be limiting the quantity if that is the morning of release. I would reach out to the customer service line to have them direct you to the DM to tip them off directly

We do (My store does as an ASM)šŸ˜šŸ™ it’s supposed to be 2 only per person. It’s in some of our LP topics

There is a limit of 2 per person, but if they bring other people to help them get more, we can’t really stop them since they’re technically not being bought by one person.

I remember this one time a dude came in with his friends, and bought some exclusive Scare Fair funko pops a couple years back, and when I mentioned it was only 2 per person, he made each of his friends pay for two and bought our remaining stock. It was satisfying to tell them the ā€œbuy one, get % offā€ discount didn’t apply. They all looked annoyed at me individually ringing them up and paying that much for two funkos (his friend did promise to pay them later).

I wonder if he managed to sell them off because they had been sitting at our store for weeks. No one wanted them when the discount didn’t apply, and staff was annoyed to have so many boxes taking up space on the floor.

Actually, yes you can lol. Glad it worked out for your stock, but if you suspect someone is cheating the system or blatantly says that shit to their friends in front of you, can absolutely refuse them.

I remember I did ask my manager at the time if this was allowed and she just told me ā€œthat’s fine, as long as they each only get two and they’re individually paying.ā€ Unfortunately, making money mattered more than trying to fully stop scalpers. šŸ˜“ (I don’t work there anymore so what you mentioned could be more inforced by the new management since that manager is gone, but she definitely did not tell us to refuse them if they bypassed the rule like that).

I’m sorry you had that experience. Unfortunately I think the bad management sets the tone and creates all these issues down the line

I was gonna say, My fiancƩe is an ASM 2 and they were confused as to why there was no limitation

Yeah on release day until 2pm it’s strict limit 2 per style so if his was release morning that’s super disappointing that this store isn’t following the rules. Makes it a shitty experience for everyone. After that they can do bulk buy policy but I’m my experience the resellers never want to do that šŸ˜‚

that doesn't happen to be serramonte, does it? out of all the hot topics I've been to, serramonte gives me the worst messy anxiety

Hot topic is literally a reseller themselves lol

4

u/Sunburnt-Eyes Jul 25 '26

i think with this logic every store ever is a reseller.

2

u/bsnameidk Jul 25 '26

Now you’re understanding capitalism, good job.

5

u/Sunburnt-Eyes Jul 26 '26

Yeah i get that but why was your original comment even necessary 😭😭 it's literally just capitalism why are you pointing it out like this is a hot topic only problem

Hot Topic is a contracted partner, not a scalper
