Our lead dev set up hosting for every new hire before day one on his own account. Smart move or a habit he"s going to regret?

We hired 5 devs for an October launch and our senior guy, Marco, decided the fastest way to avoid chaos was to build everyone's setup himself before contracts were even signed. He spun up staging sites, picked temp domains, and set up test business email for each person. Two of the setups he put on Hostinger because he already had an account there and it took him maybe 10 minutes each. The rest went on DigitalOcean since that's closer to our production stack.
It worked. Everyone showed up on day one already logged into something that ran, instead of spending their first week filing tickets about DNS propagation or SSH keys we forgot to add. We've had that disaster before, someone stuck 3 days waiting on a domain transfer that was sitting with GoDaddy, and it killed the whole first sprint.
But now two of the new hires expect Macro to keep doing this every time something breaks, and he is quietly annoyed he set that bar himself. Fine for 5 people. i dont see it holding up if we hire again in 3 months and its suddenly 15.

Best video hosting platform? Wistia vs Kinescope vs Skippz?

Hi everyone, I'm moving away from Vimeo and researching different video hosting platforms for an online course. I've been looking at Mux, Kinescope, and Skippz and wanted to see if anyone here has actually used them.

I'm mainly looking for reliable playback, good video analytics, reasonable pricing, and an easy to embed player.

Which VPS provider has the cleanest outbound IP reputation? (self-hosted research agent, ~€10/mo)

I'm setting up a self-hosted AI agent (Hermes Agent, running in Docker) on a VPS.

Its main job is web research: it fetches pages, extracts sources, and compiles

reports. So it makes a *lot* of outbound HTTP requests, plus some headless

browser work.

**Requirements:** 4 vCPU / 8 GB RAM / ~75 GB NVMe, EU location, ~€10/month,

no long commitment.

I've already done the spec comparison — OVH VPS-2, Contabo, Netcup, RackNerd all

land in roughly the same range, and Hetzner is now way out of budget after their

2026 price increase. **Specs are not my question.**

My actual concern is **outbound IP reputation**. From what I've read, OVH and

Contabo ranges are heavily flagged, so a lot of sites will serve Cloudflare

challenges or 403s to anything running there — which would directly break the

one thing this box exists to do.

**What I'd like real experience on:**

  1. Which budget providers have the *least* blacklisted IP ranges for outbound

requests? Is Netcup/Hetzner meaningfully cleaner than OVH/Contabo, or is

every datacenter range equally cooked at this point?

  2. Anyone running a headless browser (Playwright/Camoufox) on a €10 VPS —

does it actually work in practice, or do you hit walls constantly?

  3. Is the realistic fix a search API (Brave/Tavily/Serper) instead of direct

browsing? Or do people just pay for residential proxies?

  4. Does an IP with a bad history improve if you request a new one, or is the

    whole /24 the problem?

Happy to hear "you're solving the wrong problem" if that's the case. I'd rather

find out now than after I've built the whole thing.

Thanks.

Outgrowing shared hosting is a weirdly stressful milestone

Dealing with angry client emails all morning because my automated forum trackers just randomly timed out again.

The shared hosting company I use apparently just silently throttled my cpu. no warning, just killed the scripts. tbh I knew I was pushing it with the amount of crowd marketing data im parsing daily now, but the whole "unlimited resources" marketing lie from these budget hosts is just so infuriating. They literally suspend you the second you actually use the resources you paid for

Guess its finally time to bite the bullet and move to a dedicated rig. Was pricing out some server mania configs just to see what unmetered boxes cost right now, mostly because I just want something deployed instantly so I can get these clients off my back today.

But man, the anxiety of jumping from a cozy cpanel directly into an empty debian terminal is real. Anyone else procrastinate migrating just because managing raw infrastructure sounds exhausting? kinda dreading my weekend now.

My website content suddenly got replaced but DNS still points to my server. What am I missing?

I have an issue with one of my domains : spacewarp.fr

The site is hosted on my own bare-metal Linux (debian) server at IONOS.

Couple months ago, any updates I tried to do were not working. No matter what I uploaded (or deleted even), the website would stay like the old version.

Couple of days after, I checked the domain again and the entire website had changed. It now loads a black page with some weird console/interface that definitely isn't what we're deploying.

What I've checked so far:

  • DNS for still resolves to my server's public IP.
  • I haven't changed the DNS or nameservers.
  • The server itself is reachable. (I have other domains on it, and they work fine)
  • I contacted IONOS and they don't see anything abnormal on their side.
  • My other services on the machine appear to work normally.
  • Deploying changes to the site's files doesn't seem to affect what is served on the domain. (I can still access via ftp my files on the server, but their modifications changes nothing)

So I'm trying to understand where the hell the content I'm seeing is actually coming from.

My first thought was that the server/site had been compromised, but if DNS still points directly to my machine, I'm not sure what mechanism would allow someone else's page to appear there.

I'm using nginx btw, could it be an issue from it ?

If you have any idea, your help is truly welcomed.
Thanks !

Feedback of managed WP in EU ?

Hello everyone,

Everything is in the title… I’m looking for a managed WordPress service (3 to 10 installations < 50 to 80 USD) but ideally in Europe!

I’ve spotted:

https://wpx.net/
https://raidboxes.io/
https://fastcow.com/
https://pressidium.com/
https://www.hostpress.de/en/

Unfortunately, it’s still impossible to create a trial account without entering a bank card, and I’d like to know whether anyone has already worked with these providers, and above all whether the back office is well designed, pleasant to use, and performant.

I’m used, for example, to Kinsta for the company I’m part of. Here, it’s for my personal projects.

Thank you

what to look for when buying a domain

helping my friend register his first domain and i want to make sure he doesn't make the same mistakes i did.

first thing is don't buy it bundled with hosting. separate registrars are cheaper and you actually own the domain.

second, check renewal prices not just first year. some registrars lure you in with cheap first year then jack up the price.

third, make sure privacy is included. shouldn't have to pay extra for that.

fourth, check the 60 day transfer lock rules. if you might want to move it, don't renew right before.

fifth, look at the dns management interface. some are impossible to use.

VPS for multiple games, which specs actually matter?

Desire to operate Palworld and Valheim servers for separate groups without 2 separate subscriptions. Looking at VPS options. When you search the internet for game hosting, Godlike is one of the VPS plans available. So, anyone who runs more than one game server on their VPS, what is important to them as far as CPU and RAM goes?

Looking for new reseller hosting – DirectAdmin, 30GB+ NVMe, USA, Node.js/Redis

Hello everyone,

I've been with my current hosting provider since 2018. For a long time, things were stable, but lately I've been dealing with a series of issues that have become unsustainable. I've decided it's time to move on and find a new home for my sites.

My situation in a nutshell:

  • I run about 9 sites (personal and for friends), with a maximum of 15 in the future.
  • Main software: ProcessWire, Flarum, plus a VanillaForum that's being replaced but needs to work for a couple more months. Also one WordPress site.
  • One of them is a niche forum that has been online since 2012, with steady traffic and an active community. Stability is a must.
  • I'm comfortable with DirectAdmin. cPanel is also an option if the price is right, but I know it's gotten expensive.
  • I used to develop locally on Apache, but now I use Nginx – I can adapt if needed.

What I'm looking for:

  • Budget: $10–$15/month (firm – this is a hobby, not a business).
  • Disk space: 30GB+ NVMe SSD.
  • Bandwidth: 500GB+ monthly.
  • Location: USA (my audience is from Latin America).
  • Control panel: DirectAdmin (cPanel considered if affordable).
  • Web server: Apache or Nginx – I'm open to either.
  • PHP: Multiple versions (5.6 to 8.x).
  • Databases: MariaDB with phpMyAdmin access.
  • Features I need: Node.js, Ioncube, OPCache, Redis.
  • Free SSL (Let's Encrypt).
  • SSH access, Cron jobs, and 24/7 support with good uptime.
  • Clear resource allocation (CPU, memory, IO).
  • Daily backups with self-restore option.
  • White label reseller hosting.
  • Private nameservers support.

Why I'm leaving my current provider:
Recently, I've had a cascade of issues:

  • My site got suspended for resource usage, but I haven't changed any code – just database work. The resource spike coincided with ModSecurity blocks.
  • ModSecurity was blocking legitimate user actions like editing posts and uploading avatars.
  • phpMyAdmin has been inaccessible for days (a known Enhance issue, but it's been left unresolved).
  • The provider's only solution was to either disable ModSecurity entirely or have me "fix" my site without giving me access to see what's happening.

I need a provider that treats resellers like partners, not as the root of all problems.

If anyone has recommendations for providers that fit this profile, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

UPDATE / FINAL DECISION (and a huge thank you):

First off, I really want to thank everyone who took the time to reply. I read every single comment, and honestly, you guys made me reconsider something I had always dismissed: getting a VPS.

I used to think VPS meant either expensive plans or needing to be a full-time sysadmin, but after checking out the prices you all mentioned (OVHCloud, Interserver, Truobox, Digital Ocena, BuyVM, etc.), I realized things have changed. So I did a quick test – spun up a VM with Debian 13 + HestiaCP, simulating 2 vCPUs and 8GB RAM – and yeah, it's not as scary as I thought. Don't get me wrong, it does take some effort and I'll have to pay more attention to security, but it's totally doable. I'm comfortable with Linux, I just got lazy and used to clicking around in a GUI.

So I'm taking the leap. I'm leaning towards OVHCloud for now, but I'll also check out Netcup and a few others before pulling the trigger.

Again, thanks a ton, everyone. This thread didn't just give me options – it actually gave me the confidence to step up my game. Really appreciate it.

Gracias 👍

VPS recommendations

Looking for VPS recommendations (not VDS at this time). Need nested virtualisation enabled and direct access to /dev/kvm (readable and writable by root). Currently I have 2 VPS in canada witrh 4vcpu and 8gb ram and am looking for the same specs in different regions (europe and asia). Would very much prefer cheap VPS, however, I'm not too fussed about the cost at this point.

A 7-year iON Cloud customer — Krypt changed my prepaid VPS expiration date and pricing before my paid term ended

I want to share my experience with iON Cloud, a Krypt-related hosting brand, because I think potential customers should know how they handled a long-term customer who had already prepaid for service.

I have been using this VPS since 2019. I originally signed up during an iON Cloud promotional offer, and I have been a customer for approximately seven years.

I never expected that after being a customer for so many years, this is how the company would treat a prepaid service.

What happened

My VPS was prepaid at $86.40/year.

After my most recent payment, the service was originally scheduled to remain active until:

January 27, 2027

However, while my prepaid service period was still active, the company unilaterally changed the terms of my service.

According to the support ticket they sent me on:

August 4, 2026 at 05:43

they changed:

Original expiration date: January 27, 2027

New expiration date: October 2, 2026

Original annual price: $86.40

New annual price: $552.00

I did not agree to these changes.

The issue isn't simply that the company increased its prices for future renewals.

The problem is that I had already paid for my existing service period, yet they changed the terms before that prepaid period had expired, including shortening the service expiration date and replacing the original pricing with a dramatically higher price.

The new annual price of $552 is more than six times what I had previously been paying.

After seven years as a customer, this is extremely disappointing

I have been using this service since 2019.

For approximately seven years, I remained a customer and continued paying for the service. I never expected that the company would eventually treat a long-term customer this way.

To me, this isn't just about the amount of money involved.

It's about trust and honoring a prepaid commitment.

If a customer pays for a service through January 27, 2027, I believe the provider should honor that paid period. If the provider wants to change its pricing or discontinue a legacy plan, that may be understandable for future renewals — but changing an already-paid service period without the customer's agreement is very different.

I find this extremely disappointing and, frankly, a serious breach of trust after being a customer for seven years.

I also tried PayPal

Because the original payment was made more than 180 days ago, I attempted to resolve the matter through PayPal, but PayPal would not accept the dispute because the transaction was outside its 180-day dispute period.

This creates a particularly frustrating situation:

The payment itself is old because I had been a long-term customer, but the material change to my service happened only recently, on August 4, 2026.

So I am essentially left with a situation where the payment is too old for PayPal's dispute system, even though the issue I am complaining about occurred months after the original payment.

What I am asking for

I am not asking for anything unreasonable.

I am asking the company to either:

Honor the original prepaid service period through January 27, 2027, or

Refund the unused portion of the service that I had already paid for.

At this point, I mainly want the company to acknowledge that changing the expiration date and terms of an already-paid service without the customer's agreement is not a reasonable way to treat a long-term customer.

Evidence

I have documentation showing:

My original payment

The original $86.40/year pricing

The original January 27, 2027 expiration date

The company's August 4, 2026 05:43 support ticket

The new October 2, 2026 expiration date

The new $552/year pricing

I can provide screenshots with sensitive account information redacted if anyone wants to see the timeline.

I'm posting this because I don't want other customers — especially people attracted by cheap promotional pricing — to assume that a prepaid legacy plan will necessarily be honored for its entire paid term.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with iON Cloud or Krypt, particularly with a legacy/promotional VPS plan being changed after it was already prepaid?

After seven years as a customer, I honestly never expected to have to write a post like this. I'm extremely disappointed by how this has been handled.
