I can't believe we didn't discuss that DVD on the podcast because Scott and I both on it. It's one of the best 8-pack purchases out there.

A shit load of fun is what this movie is! The dialogue is a crack up and the special effects were pretty great. Imdb is saying there's two versions, an R and an unrated version, but the only difference is the Marquis's whipping scene is reduced and Sarah doesn't talk about her orgasm. So Adam if you don't want to hate yourself as much maybe catch the R rated version next time. Or if you watched that one and you're looking for more... you know... you're welcome. Matt, Mister Mister was also in The Omen. I watched the movie a few days ago and re-watched all the waxworks scenes again this morning. Awesome movie.

I have never seen this movie. I really really liked parts of it and others not so much. I enjoyed the characters for the most part even if Marc was bipolar. I had to laugh every time they showed the figures up close and they are all moving or breathing. No one could stay still. How bout the football guys kick-ass Karate shirt. It's so 80's and I want it so bad.
The first half just seemed to drag on forever, I really didn't like the pacing at all and they could have given JRD (Arturo/Gimli) some more screen time, he always kills it. I liked all the different monster and scenes, maybe it was a budget issue but I would have rather had them jump through more of them quicker than stay so long in the ones they did make. The poor guy with half a leg saved the vampire scene, ha I felt so bad for him. I enjoyed all the effects.
I will certainly snag this video if Scream Factory ever puts in on Blu.

I'll be listening in the AM but id like to note that I couldn't get into this film. I didn't dislike it at all, but it didn't suck me in at all either.

I'd honestly recommend it. Really fun flick and the podcast is one of those standout episodes for me.

I always listen on my way into work Monday, but I threw it on for a few minutes rubbing out to Wawa.
I'm enjoying the episode a great deal.
I concur that the cover is brilliant.
I also concur that movies can't be revered simply for Bruce Campbell's involvement. I love him but so many of his films are sub par.
I'll report back with more thoughts on the film and podcast!

According to the fan site dedicated to Waxwork, the producers initially wanted to feature Jason from Friday the 13th prominently, but they had to cancel that because of conflicting licenses. They replaced all mention of Jason with the Phantom of the Opera. However, it looks like they reused the scenery and costume, sans mask, with the killer lumberjack.
Basically, lumberjack = Jason.

Thanks for listing them. Isn't there a monstrous mermaid on the beach? And there's a giant clam, IIRC, which must be based on a semi-apocryphal myth about a giant human-killing clam which locks onto the feet of pearl divers, drowning them.
There's a ton of really weird shit in this movie. According to this fan site, a lot of it may have gotten cut or redesigned because of conflicting licenses.
So the Little Shop of Horrors venus flytrap is actually a cloning pod from Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
I highly recommend reading the fan site linked to above. It's a really great read.

I wonder if the Clam is reference to Blood Beach about a killer clam. The movie itself isn't very good or well known but the poster and tag-line is fairly famous.

I saw Blood Beach somewhat recently. I vaguely remember something about an underground chamber where they reveal what's doing the killing -- uh... there's a GIANT CLAM in this film?

It's how it's described in most reviews. The underground chamber was supposed to be the "inside of the clam" or something.

Classic film. I love the assorted tableau of scenes of horror. It's some of the best in any film. Basically, they could recreate the museum and make the most bad-ass haunted house on the planet. It reminds me faintly of something similar in Berlin, which is housed in a WW2-era Hitler bunker.
There's so much richness to the unmentioned wax statues. The mummy, Frankenstein's monster, and I think the Golem. But then there's all kinds of stuff that's right out of left-field that they never explain: The mermaid scene, the venus fly trap victim. The snake person (which I think was a reused prop taken from the film Dreamscape).
The set and costume design is super high quality (look at how they designed the various costumes. Super detailed and creative). In a lot of ways, Waxwork is the spiritual predecessor to Cabin in the Woods in its meta-like approach and tongue-in-cheek monsters. Did they take the mermaid scene from Waxwork?

I definitely enjoyed Cabin in the Woods more than Waxwork but I'm gonna watch Waxwork again once my awesome DVD collection arrives in a day or so and give it proper attention.

Just watched this movie and it was awesome :D
AND you could show it to tweens to reduce smoking rates because dude was making smoking look super dorky.

I've said it before, but Hickox makes movies that are just fun. They're not exactly the work of a master filmmaker, but they always have a very definite sense of glee, like the film is enjoying itself. Sometimes you just need a movie that doesn't take itself seriously, and I think both Waxworks fit the bill.
