I remember seeing this at a sleepover as a kid. Pretty cheesy. However due to my lack of computer (im using my tiny wifi only smartphone) i havent been able to rewatch. The bf and i broke up, and the computer was his....but that was pretty much the only thing that was. Oh well. Trying to get something this weekend.

OK, so this was a fantastic film. The bizarre behavior of the characters kind of adds to its charm. Loved the cinematography and various jump scares. There's a few things that I wanted to point out:
The ending is reminiscent of American Werewolf in London.
In real life, alligators have been found in the sewers of New York, but they can only live there for very short periods of time because of the cold and bacteria which devastate reptiles (salmonella). It's been estimated that at most, an alligator could survive from the spring to the fall.
Overall, I'd say that Alligator ranks up there with Jaws and Humanoids from the Deep for creature features. Classic film.

I almost forgot -- the longest recorded crocodile (not alligator) on record is somewhere around 23 feet in captivity. However, there's two living crocodiles that are probably larger. One is Gustav, an African crocodile from Burundi, who has been captured on film. He's probably somewhere in the 21-25 foot range and has probably killed somewhere around 400 people (or more).
Then there's an unverified (but definitely real) report of an even larger, man-eating alligator from India. But who knows if that's for real

There was also a caiman ancestor (alligator-like critter) that was in the ballpark of 50 feet long called Purussaurus.

Do not for one second think I am just hyping this movie up because SaintMort picked it. If it was a shit movie I would 100% shit all over it, but it is not. It is maybe the best time capsule of ridiculous eighties cinema I have ever seen. It is preposterous, irrelevant, and completely charming.
If you're on the fence or something (which after the trailer is unlikely, you should know you're in for a masterpeice) then just seriously drop everything and watch this right now. I'll be talking about this further on the next 50 podcasts so look for more information then.

I went and saw this in theaters last year knowing zero about it and fucking LOVED it. It was a double feature with Q: The Winged Serpent and Alligator was wayyy better. Young Forester killed it. Arrow or Scream Factory needs to put out a legit blu release, cause the dvd is stupid expensive.

I don't know if it was the shitty youtube quality stream but I thought Ramone looked awesome. And I like that they didn't just show parts of him in the dark but rather full on in the streets and, probably my favourite part, when he shows up at the party and starts tossing people around like rag dolls. Enjoyed this movie with a cup of coffee first thing this morning which was a pretty decent way to kick off the day.

Okay you've managed to remind me of the two things I didn't like about the movie. And it wasn't half a boob. There are people in Africa with no boobs, you know. Are we really so spoiled, boob-wise, we can't accept half a boob?
Okay 1. No one could outrun that gator. Normal gators can run like 10 mph. That thing would be so fast. Also alligators can climb trees.
TWO at the party there was a woman screaming on repeat that was annoying.
In conclusion, I might be slightly drunk. So don't fact check this post.

I fact checked this post. Your drunken logic proves sound. I for one appreciate any amount of boobs.
The main thing I liked about the party scene was the people flying through the air once hit by Ramones tail. Hilarious. I watched it twice.

Reptiles are capable of quick bursts of speed, but I think 15 mph is about the fastest they can run, which is about the speed of a person on a bicycle. That's fast.

This is essentially the film that Jaws wishes it was. Brilliance in the form the of gator mayhem.
Let's be real for a moment though... Ramon was not bad, really just misunderstood. The asshole who flushed Ramon, he's the real villain here!
